Arriving on the planet Cashel, the Tenth Doctor witnesses a strange masked ball. To guarantee peace, Prince Zircon has to choose a bride from the Bog People – dead men and women who have been resurrected as slaves. Or as warriors. As usual, the Doctor has walked right into trouble, and it's up to him to sort it out.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Dr. Who Is Back 28 mai 2014
Par Upstate New York Reader - Publié sur
This short novella is a fun romp with Dr. Who as he visits the planet Cashel. The book itself makes use of an undated Dr. Who, though a brief introduction to the book explains that The Doctor is the Tenth Doctor. The Doctor portrayed in the story seemed to have more similarities to Tom Baker's portrayal of the Doctor, than the more recent episodes.

The story focuses on his interaction with a group of Zombies that The Doctor discovers are trapped as slaves of an evil queen. In an effort to protect the inhabitants of Cashel and the Zombies, the Doctor must expose the evil motives that drive Queen Xenotime. Having grown up with Dr. Who - beginning with some of his earliest manifestations, the short book held my attention. It was again encouraging to see that the doctor enter into an unknown culture and find ways to help without disrupting the people who he finds there.

I will look forward to reading additional stories in this collection.

This isn't the best depiction of Ten. It doesn't seem true to him as a doctor on many levels. The supporting cast is, in my case, hard to empathize with and slightly difficult to keep track of (because they're all named after rocks/minerals/natural elements and they are all introduced in a very short amount of time).

The writing style isn't really my favorite, as it jumps to and fro from detail to detail. It is most likely designed to give the reader a picture of the whole scene, but it seemed really jerky to me.

If you were going to buy a novel specifically for Ten don't get this one. If you're just looking for a random Doctor Who novel go for it.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley.
The overall storyline was good enough to keep me reading for the duration of this short novella. I love Dr.Who, so I felt compelled to read it. In the end though, I was extremely disappointed in this story.
Throughout the story, I did not feel any empathy towards the characters, and most importantly, I don't feel like the author properly conveyed the Tenth Doctor. Perhaps one of the other Doctors, maybe Tom Baker's Doctor, but definitely not Ten. Ten is my absolute favorite and not feeling him in the story sorely disappointed me.

The Bog Warrior was another okay read in the Time Trips series. Imagine Cinderella meets Doctor Who and this is the story you'd get. The Doctor didn't seem to do much in this story, but I thought overall it was a good characterization of the tenth Doctor. This wasn't a favorite Doctor Who story of mine, by far, but if you a fan of Doctor Who and can't get enough of these books you'll note than likely enjoy this book...just don't expect much.

I received a complimentary copy of this book to review. I was asked to give my honest opinion of the book - which I have done.

Probably the weakest of the time trips thus far, the 10th Doctor seems somewhat out of character here, and the lack of a companion character leads to lots of missed opportunities. That said I still give it 3 stars, and think that it is worth a read for anybody that enjoys a Doctor Who story.
