Description du produit

Présentation de l'éditeur

Contrary to vicious Internet rumours, Detective Inspector Romney is not dead. He returns to lead his team of Dover detectives in the hunt for a killer. He’s also looking for answers to more personal mysteries.

Broken homes, broken dreams and broken bodies are just some of the cheerier aspects of the Romney & Marsh File that goes to show sometimes it’s a dog’s life.

***

The Romney and Marsh Files now number six (nearly seven). They don’t have to be read in order; they do all work as stand-alone novels. However, to get the most out of each it is recommended that they are consumed in the order in which they were prepared, a bit like the courses of a good meal. (Who wants to eat ice-cream before a bowl of soup?)

Here are the books of the series in order:

#1 Rope Enough
#2 Making a Killing
#3 Joint Enterprise
#4 A Dog’s Life
#5 Particular Stupidities
#6 Unhappy Families
#7 A White-Knuckle Christmas (In production.)

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Favorite Series 15 mai 2016

This series is one of my favorites. Oliver Tidy writes a well-paced, thoroughly satisfying police procedural. His Romney and Marsh books provide a sense of being realistic and sometimes gritty, without being gratuitously gruesome. The plotting is great, with the threads of the crime's solution embedded naturally throughout. The release of the next book in the series is something to look forward to, and itw a real perk of being an ebook reader.
5.0 étoiles sur 5 A terrific plot with well-crafted characters! 6 juillet 2014

Although self-published, Tidy (writer, researcher, proofreader, etc.) weave a terrific plot around well-crafted characters: so much so that I simply can't understand why he's still only self-published! Publishers should be grabbing these titles up. Since the first book in the Romney & Marsh series was free, I didn't expect too much... but I was fairly overwhelmed by what I read. If you're into Brit mysteries, this is a great series to read (have only read the Romney & Marsh series thus far, although Tidy has other books out there!).

This is the 1st book of Oliver Tidy's that I have read and I am happy that I have discovered a writer that I like and that I want to read more of. The mystery in the book - actually there is more than one mystery - are worth thinking about, the humor was an added bonus that I wasn't expecting but is one of the reasons that I will buy more of Mr. Tidy's books. Romney and Marsh are well developed characters that are quite human, and quite likeable. Characters that are near super-hero in their brilliant reasoning and deduction skills are boring to me because those types of people are quite rare, yet many authors think that brilliant detectives are everywhere which gives those authors a reason to write give their detective a brilliance that is rarely seen on earth. 5.0 étoiles sur 5 A compelling read! 14 juillet 2014

I have read all the books in this series, and they just keep getting better and better. In this novel, we find out quite a lot more about the pasts of both Romney and Marsh, who for different reasons, have a number of dark secrets from their pasts. The book provides an effective balance between a compelling murder mystery and engagement with interesting, complex characters. The Dover setting in the series is a character in its own right, and like Romney and Marsh, with each book, we discover its positives and negatives. Although it seems to be a common convention in British detective writing to have a pair who work together, it is to Tidy's credit that he avoids the stereotyped relationship we see in so many of these novels. This is not a predictable or comfortable relationship, but factors that create the loyalty that makes Romney and Marsh an effective team are fascinating in their own right.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

As always, the story was fun and interesting. There were some interesting new areas of character development started but not fully resolved for both Romney and Marsh. I was a bit disappointed this time by what seemed like some padding in the writing. This really was an interesting plot and I did enjoy trying to figure out who did the crime. Mr. Tidy wasn't at the top of his form, but I still look forward to seeing more of these detectives and their fe8rce new boss.
