4.0 étoiles sur 5 well worth it at the price 10 août 2013
Par Stanley Crowe - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
This is perhaps the best conducted "Lucia" in the catalogue. Ion Marin is splendidly responsive to the shifts and turns in the dramatic situations, and he finds ways for the orchestra to establish the right feeling. Just listen to the orchestra in the dialogue between "Fra poco" and "Tu che a Dio" -- or in the Enrico/Lucia duet in Part 2. Marin knows when to be delicate and when to cut loose. That degree of responsiveness is lacking in his principals. Domingo and Studer sing very well -- amazingly well, given that both were working the Wagnerian side of things by 1992, when this recording was made -- but I'm guessing that there hadn't been a lot of stage experience with these roles in recent years for either singer, and as a result, I find their singing a bit "straight." Bergonzi and Kraus, and Sills and Gruberova, will, in their different ways, break your heart in this opera, but that kind of vulnerability isn't something that Domingo and Studer are quite up to in the studio. But still . . . this is singing worth hearing by two singers who were about as good as anybody in the decade from, say, 1985-1995 and it deserves respect. There's much to enjoy in it -- beauty of tone, firmness, reliability, and musicality. The other roles don't require as much "face" as the leading roles, but they are all well taken here. The great American bass Samuel Ramey is simply the best Raimondo on records, and Juan Pons sings beautifully as Enrico, every bit as fine as Cappuccilli. And to have Jennifer Larmore as Alisa is a luxury. The sound is excellent, with the voices maybe just a shade more forward than they need to be, but the orchestra isn't scanted. You won't forget Callas and Sills, but this is well worth it, especially at its new price.

for years i had been seen this lucia in the market. i love studer & marin, but i had been always reluctant to domingo, & now i really don't understand why after hearing him in this recording. at the time domingo sung this he was as old as noah when he died; who he was 500 yrs. old when he started with his boat box, took him 100 yrs. to finish it & lived 300 & something more yrs. after the rain stopped. well mister domingo is the real surprise here with a beautiful lyric voice. you can expect from studer to have a perfect coloratura since she's in the rank of luciana serra & christina deutekom. ion marin direction is always flawless with superb digital sound; i wonder why he doesn't make many more belcanto recordings, hes the bonynge of the 21st century, allthought most his advaliable recordings are from the 90's. you really have to hear domingo in here, is impressive. juan pons & samuel ramey, are equal as many other enricos & raimondos, i didnt see nothing special on them, obviously they are not the tipe of brassy baritons from the 60's, like merrill, bruscantini, flagello, sereni, fisher-dieskau, gobbi, taddei, watcher... the 60's was the golden age of baritons. for $8 this is a bargain you must have, if youre like me who i like to have many versions of the same operas, bcos to me every director & singers, give their unique touch to the work. this is my 4th lucia, after sutherland/pavarotti's, sills/bergonzi's, & gruberova/shicoff's & now im trying to get my paws into moffo's set, but at this moment is out of the market. hope BMG re-releases it soon. all of them are unique on their own. the one i dont recomend you at all, is the caballe one,if youre expecting coloratura there youre up for a rude awakening, even if carreras is on his glory there. well that was one of the fruitcakes i sent to one of my friends for christmass a few years ago. i was really not interested on hearing it anymore ever.....
