Présentation de l'éditeur

This is a comprehensive sourcebook on the world's most famous vampire, with more than 700 citations of domestic and international Dracula films, television programs, documentaries, adult features, animated works, and video games, as well as nearly a thousand comic books and stage adaptations. While they vary in length, significance, quality, genre, moral character, country, and format, each of the cited works adopts some form of Bram Stoker's original creation, and Dracula himself, or a recognizable vampiric semblance of Dracula, appears in each. The book includes contributions from Dacre Stoker, David J. Skal, Laura Helen Marks, Dodd Alley, Mitch Frye, Ian Holt, Robert Eighteen-Bisang, and J. Gordon Melton.

As a lover of many things undead and a devotee of both the persona of Dracula and Vlad the 3rd on many levels I was pleased and shocked by this work as well as moved. Mr. Browning covers all the best known avatars of Dracula and many of the more obscure examples of the persona of the count or the themes of the novel. Mr. Browning will be a scholar others look to in the future to understand Dracula. If you have any joy in Dracula or the undead, buy this book.

This book is a gold mine. The burgeoning Dracula buff could dive head-first into a literal sea of media of all kinds. The emerging scholar could shape paper after paper on the information Browning et al. have amassed here. The expression is tired, but actually useful in this case: there's something for everyone. With elucidating introductions to each section, the book situates the bibliography in helpful ways -- even in areas you might not have expected much to be revealed (see Laura Helen Marks's and Timothy Dodd Alley's introductions to pornography and video games, respectively; each brings light to an area often ignored, but in need of examination).

Let me give you an example of this book's use. Let's say you've just read the book and want to see how Van Helsing or Harker is portrayed in one of a variety of media (say, film, in this case). Perhaps you are interested in pursuing a feminist interpretation of the Dracula narrative. You flip to the index and discover that Van Helsing was portrayed as a female character in two film versions -- one a Japanese adaptation of a comic book, the other an adult film. Or perhaps you're a fan of Animaniacs, Vol. 1 (or just reminiscing about it) and are curious of its treatment of Dracula, discovering that Yakko, Wakko, and Dot de-fang Dracula and put his teeth in Dot's hair to make her look like Sheena Easton (Sheena Easton - Greatest Hits). In another episode, the show takes on a They Might Be Giants approach with Dracula -- with yet another twist.

I could go on, but that's what the book is for. Grab a copy and a laptop and sit down with a cup of coffee. Within minutes you'll be scouring the internet for long-lost episodes of television shows you'd forgotten and you'll be on Amazon trying to find a copy of The Magic Christian starring Ringo Starr and Peter Sellers, music by Paul McCartney, and cameos by Christopher Lee, Roman Polanski, Richard Attenborough, and others. This might in turn spur you on to discover an episode ("Misery") of The Beatles Cartoon Series Complete [2 DVD] [39 Episodes] in which a wax Dracula comes to life and chases the lads around. But I don't know. Find your own thread to follow.

Very interesting compilation of every reference to Dracula in television, film, and other media. Plus who knew that Dracula was so much a part of the porn scene?

All encompassing encyclopaedia of every appearance by Dracula ( and friends or should that be fiends). Great for dipping your teeth into at random or to look up some obscure movie, play, tv, graphic novel or even porno versions of the Count in action ( He'll suck you dry- sic). For fans and fanatics alike
