This book is a charming and amusing read for primary grade school children. Probably best described as a beginning chapter book, it has a few illustrations that are done well, but would appeal more to younger children if done in color. Plot involves a duck who owns a farm. One day Duck decides that he wants to dig for dinosaur bones and persuades his friends Cat and Hen to help him. They are successful and soon assemble a massive amount of bones. Duck's cows are terrified; they hide in a walnut tree. Duck is forced to remove the bones from the barn and build a museum to house the T Rex skeleton. Pandemonium breaks loose when all the animals in the farm pitch in to paint the museum.

This five chapter book is a good choice for a read aloud. The humor is infectious; children will love the silliness. I also recommend the book as an excellent choice for older and younger siblings to share with each other.

This book had me grinning from ear to ear! Hilarious! Seeing the cows up a tree after being scared by the T-Rex is just superb!

Are you getting the idea that I enjoyed this book? I hope you are getting the idea that you might find it an enjoyable read too!

Duck decides that he wants to go dig for dinosaur bones so calls his friends, Hen and Cat. After doing all the digging, how are they going to transport the bones back to Duck's farm? By Blimp, of course!

With the cows scared how is Duck going to persuade them back to the barn? Where is he now going to store the T-Rex? This book will appeal to both boys and girls and is also educational in how they build and decorate the new home of the T-Rex. Picture in your mind ten chickens painting. What happens when one gets covered in paint and loses all her feathers? Who will come to her rescue to keep her warm?

I would recommend this book for the entire family. I plan on reading it aloud to all our children but it would also be great for young independent readers. It is a chapter book so too hard for beginning readers but has enough repeated words that it is great for those who have a good grasp of reading but are not quite ready for long chapters or things like Shakespeare yet! The penciled drawings just add to the story!

A MUST HAVE for your children's library. You won't regret it! EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! Bock!

Duck and Friends, The Dinosaur Bones by Donna McFarland & Illustrated by Kim Sponaugle is a fun to read book. It is written for children ages four to eight. I gave it five stars. My favorite little boy asked me to read it again & again.

Duck called his friends Hen & Cat to help him dig for bones. They found some in a town named Fossil. They took a ride in a blimp because the bones were too big to fit into Duck's truck.

He put together the bones & they were as big as the barn. He showed them to his other friends & the cows ran away & hid in a walnut tree. The illustrations, while in black & white are cleverly done.

Since the cows were afraid he had to take apart the T-Rex & built a dinosaur museum. Hen, Cat, Mouse, Bear & Dragon all helped build it. When painting, a chicken fell into a bucket of green paint. They washed her off but her feathers came off too. The alpacas knitted her a sweater to keep her warm. Then more chickens fell when Dragon sneezed. They also got knitted sweaters.

I received a complimentary copy from Spencer Meadow Press & Amazon. That did not change my opinion for this review.

"Duck and Friends: The Dinosaur Bones" was a delightful children's book. It was very well written, humorous, imaginative and certain to appeal to children. I didn't notice any mistakes in spelling, grammar, and correct word usage, which has not been the case in several other children's books I have seen recently. This is a big plus for me, so kudos to the author; I can accept some mistakes in books for adults, but it is inexcusable in books for children learning to read.

"Duck and Friends: The Dinosaur Bones" has repetitive words and phrases that flow well and are designed to help children learn to read, without having the boring, stilted feel of books in the "Dick and Jane" mode. The reading lesson is integrated into a silly story about the efforts of Duck and his friends to find and display dinosaur bones. Cows get frightened and hide in trees, hens keep falling into paint cans with hilarious results, and a dragon's sneeze adds to the pandemonium. The story lends itself to active participation between an adult reader and child through the opportunities for questions, answers, comments, the imitation of animal sounds, and the acting out of some of the actions of the animals.

The illustrations are marvellous and definitely do justice to the story. I have one quibble with the illustrations, though; they are very good, but they are in black and white. The cover illustration is coloured and it is stunning. I imagine it takes a lot more effort to create and publish coloured illustrations, but it would have been worth it had the illustrator done so. Children seem to love coloured illustrations and it would be great to see a second edition done in colour.

This is a book that I am sure children will enjoy and will reread multiple times. It teaches and entertains and is well worth purchasing. I recommend it to anyone looking for quality books for children.

This is a wonderful story, written as if it came directly out of a child's imagination. No boundaries. No rules. Great friends. And a grand time. Preschoolers will be delighted to have this read aloud to them by parents and older siblings, for whom it will not be a chore, as this story is highly entertaining for the whole family. My 22- and 24-year-olds laughed hysterically when they read it. It is also a great book for beginning readers. The vocabulary used will not overwhelm them, yet somehow the author still manages to keep things interesting (a feat I have not often seen accomplished with children's books). So, if you have kids in your life, I encourage you to invite Duck And Friends into your home.
