Présentation de l'éditeur

A year after her divorce from her manipulative, sweet-talking ex-husband, Yancy Stevens has settled into life as a single mother to her eighteen month old little girl. She enjoys her work, loves her daughter, and has wonderful girlfriends to lean on. While her life isn’t perfect, she’s finally back in control of it. There’s just one problem: Charles Faulkner. Her new colleague in the office is arrogant and can’t seem to remember her name. However, it’s probably for the best that he’s a jerk because he’s also the most handsome man she’s ever seen. If she didn’t detest him, she would become a bumbling idiot every time they spoke. After a heated argument, his attitude toward her changes dramatically and sparks of a different sort begin to fly. Against her better judgment, Yancy takes the risk and gives Charles a chance. As she learns more about him, she truly wants to let go of her past, drop her defenses and try to trust him. It’s a scary proposition for a woman who’s learned the hard way, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

The 2nd book in the NSFW series, by C.C. Wood (it is a stand alone!)is about Yancy Stevens, the caffeine addict. I liked her from the 1st book, In Love with Lucy, and couldn't wait to read her story.
This felt like a VERY quick read and was well written. The characters were love-able, the story was endearing, frustrating, exciting, and just PERFECT> I need a Charles in my life!
Yancy is trying to find a balance between having a career, being a single mom of a baby, and finding time to herself.
Charles, who leaves a TERRIBLE first impression, finds a way to get Yancy to open up, to trust, and ultimately love.
This wasn't entirely sweet and romantic, there was also realistic problems Yancy faces that made me cringe (and I found myself crossing my fingers while reading it)!
Overall: the I LOVED the characters, the erotic scenes were HOT, the romance was sweet, and the story was believable (to an extent - I'll let you know if I ever meet a "real" Charles, lol).

This romantic comedy gets 5 stars for:
1) The Crack scale
2) Heart
3) Funny
4) Dialogue

This book was crack. Seriously, I started it last night and had to TEAR myself away from it to go to sleep (super late) and all I've wanted to do since is read it. Then, when I realized I was near the end, I stopped reading because I didn't want it to end.

This book has heart. I just... it was... I was... I really felt it, you know?

FUNNY BOOK ALERT CODE RED!

The dialogue in this book pushed it from a 4.85 to a 5 star read. It is witty, funny, sweet, heartfelt. Lovely.

This is my third book by CC Wood and, although Seasons of Sorrow will always hold a place in my heart, I think this is my favorite. Love it.

Earning Yancy, the second book in C.C. Woods Not Safe For Work Series was so much more than what I was expecting, and that's not to say I didn't love In Love With Lucy, it was a fun, fast read with perfect comedic timing and with enough heat, but Earning Yancy while it still had me laughing out loud at times, for me it was a little more serious, had a little more heart. It held me captivated from the first page to the last line.

Yancy Stevens is finally out from underneath her good for nothing ex-husband, juggling a successful career and being single mother to a beautiful 18 month old daughter with cystic fibrosis is proving to be challenging. She's been out of the dating scene for longer than she likes to admit, and while the idea of finding someone is enticing the idea of opening herself up to the chance of future heartbreak isn't something she's ready for.

Charles Faulkner, Yancy's new work colleague is as arrogant as he is good looking, his inability to remember Yancy's name is frustrating and his demeanour offensive. But first impressions aren't always right and Yancy is about to find out that there may be some truth in the playground theory of little boys who pull a girls hair to get their attention.

Earning Yancy, is a story of second chances, finding the one, and for never settling for less than you deserve. Wood uses her comedic timing perfectly to execute many laugh out loud moments, when I wasn't laughing I was swooning over Charles and cheering Yancy on as she struggled with opening her heart and her child to someone new. If you're looking for a sweet, sassy, heartwarming afternoon read, Earning Yancy ticks all the boxes, can't wait to hear more from this crazy bunch of women.

HASH(0x93fe8ec4) étoiles sur 5 Another Great Book by C.C. Wood! 2 août 2014

Earning Yancy, book 2 in the NSFW series was FANTASTIC!

I loved In Love With Lucy and like that story, I could not put this book down. One of the things that I love about C.C. Wood's writing is that her characters are so relatable, whether it be a fun series like this one or The Girl Next Door series , a paranormal story like the Bitten Series or even the emotional roller coaster that was Season of Sorrow . These are people that I would hang out with if they were real. And with Yancy, I can completely relate to her feelings of shyness around new people.

Yancy Stevens is a single mother. Her ex-husband left her not long after she had her daughter Carolena (love that name). See I write her daughter and not their daughter because her ex - Cooper - was never really a father to her and Yancy pretty much from her birth raised her like a single mother. She has her steady support group of Lucy ( In Love With Lucy ), Tanya, Grier and Chelsea. And now a possible office romance with Charles Faulkner - her one time nemesis (for being a jerk and calling her Nancy when he knows it is Yancy plus a few other minor jerkiness) and now love interest.

Charles Faulkner has been with the company a month before the story starts. He has this annoying habit of calling Yancy Nancy. One day he just pushes that wrong button and Yancy explodes on him. You see, he was mistakenly under the wrong impression that Yancy was married after hearing her and their boss discuss her daughter. Charles liked Yancy but thought she was off the market so he resorted to juvenile boy behavior with her. Remember in school how if a boy liked you they would pull your hair, tease you, call you the wrong name. Stuff like that. ;-) They apologize to each other for the little blow up that occurred and start to get along. Charles asks Yancy to lunch and from there their little romance begins to bloom.

Everything is going great. Charles is such a sweetheart. He gives Yancy the room and time she needs to feel comfortable dating again and understands her initial resistance to introducing him to her 18 month old daughter. That's one of the things that I really appreciated in this story, that he was understanding and not all Alpha male dominant and tried to force her to be with him on his terms. Just as Yancy is getting comfortable with the new man in her life is when of course her ex makes a reappearance. So what happens? Does this present a strain in Yancy and Charles new relationship? Does Cooper become a part of Carolena's life? Is Cooper trying to win back Yancy and will she go back to him even though she has genuine feelings for Charles? Well, I could tell you but I think it would be more fun to read to see what happens. ;-)

I look forward to the next book in the series.

HASH(0x93fd930c) étoiles sur 5 Sweet, funny and poignant... 1 août 2014
Par johanna - Publié sur Amazon.com

Earning Yancy has to be one of the sweetest stories that C. C. Wood has come up with to date. While Book 1 of the NSFW Series had me laughing out loud through most of the novella, this one was funny while managing to be poignant at the same time.

Yancy and her friends star in this series and were all introduced in In Love with Lucy. She's the serious one; well, she's forced to be serious as she's a single mom who has a baby girl with a debilitating and potentially life threatening condition. Not much time for levity with that.

If there's anyone who manages to get a rise out of her, it's Charles Faulkner. He's irritating, condescending, and can never get her name right! No surprise she has zero patience with him and after a few slip ups too many, flares up and tells him what she thinks of his behavior.

He suddenly does a 180-degree turn on his behavior and is the most perfect man she can think of? Is she attracted to him or is it just hormonal since it's been years that any male treated her with consideration and care? If she takes a chance, do they have the slightest chance of the relationship working?

Charles has a wacky yet shyly sweet persona hiding under his smirk. He can keep his libido in check while dishing out the hottest, steamiest make-out scenes I've read in quite a while. Then, he spends time with Yancy and Carolena as a family, sometimes giving more attention to little Lena than Yancy expects. Mature male, anyone? This guy gets a double yes from me!

But not all is well in paradise and the unexpected appearance of someone from the past threatens the budding romance. Yancy is forced to pull on her big-girl panties and toughen up. What happens next is a painful, yet happy result for the two lovers and their families.

This quick, light read is well worth the effort because it leaves you with a sunny, happy feeling that brightens up the rest of your day. I so love how C. C. Wood writes that I plan to revisit this series -again- sometime in the near future. I don't think I'd get tired of this at all.

The ending leaves much to be desired, and I say this in a good way! Tanya has finally come clean about her painful past. Grier took a long vacation to someplace no one's aware of yet. Somehow Chelsea's not been mentioned (except for all the TMI between Lucy and Chris that gets dumped on her) and it's making me antsy. Who's next? What's going to happen? I think this book ended too soon.
