Biographie de l'auteur

Carolyn McCarthy's first foray to Ecuador was in 2002, when she visited the Galapagos, Shuar territory and various Andean peaks. Her return for this book, her first for Lonely Planet, took her further afield, where her misadventures included a bus fire, uninvited intestinal guests and tripping into a pit of crude oil. Despite the often-precarious state of Ecuador, its gorgeous landscapes, resilient people and natural treasures will keep her going back, rubber boots in tow. A freelancer and Fulbright fellow, she has published in South American Explorer, the Boston Globe and Spanish-language titles. She lives in southern Chile where she guides treks and is working on a book about rural Patagonia. Danny Palmerlee. Danny has spent nearly every waking moment of the past seven years studying, travelling in and writing about Latin America, a region he's been no less than infatuated with since he first backpacked through in 1991. He works as a freelance writer based in Buenos Aires and travels regularly to Ecuador. His travel articles have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Dallas Morning News, San Francisco Chronicle, Houston Chronicle and other publications throughout the world. Along with other Lonely Planet titles, Danny is also the coordinating author of South America on a Shoestring, Argentina and Best of Buenos Aires. Michael Grosberg. After a childhood spent stateside in Washington, DC area and with a valuable philosophy degree in hand, Michael took a job helping to develop a resort on an island in the Pacific, after which he left for a long overland trip through Asia. He later found his way to South Africa where he did journalism and NGO (nongovernment organization) work. He returned to New York City for graduate school in comparative literature focusing on Latin America and spent a summer teaching in Quito and traveling through much of Ecuador. More recently he has taught literature and writing in several NYC colleges in addition to other Lonely Planet assignments that have taken him around the world.
