ENCHANTMENT: Book One of The Channie Series

Paranormal Platinum Award Winner

When Channie Belks moves from her home in the Ozark mountains to a suburban Colorado high school, she tries to hide the fact she's a mage. It might have worked until her parents slapped a chastity curse on her for flirting with "dirty-minded, non-magical, city-boys." She can't even walk by a hot guy without zapping him.
There's a way to break the curse; but one mistake could kill her. It's not worth the risk. Until she meets Josh…a BMX champion with a dazzling smile, washboard abs and the bluest eyes she’s ever seen.
Suddenly, the threat of death isn't such a deal-breaker.

***WARNING*** The characters in this book swear. They also think about, talk about and sometimes engage in sexual behavior.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A magical page turner 12 octobre 2011

I bought this book on a hunch, thinking it looked like fun. Turned out to be even better than I expected. The writing is superb, really polished plot and characters. The ideas are smart too as this book is the essence of fiction, creating a whole new world to get lost in. I liked the assortment of magic, different spells, power levels and how it played into the tale, which had plenty of surprises. All of the characters are believable and felt real, even though their experiences are anything but ordinary.
Very fun book. Definitely a page turner. I'm ready for the sequel.

Enchantment is one of the sweetest books I've read.

16 years old Channie, is a mage not any mage by all means she is Enchanting, a lovely girl with a heart of gold that's live her whole life in a Mage town far away from any empty (Magically Disabled person) civilization.

Her wish to become a healer is right in front of her and she couldn't be happier until one day everything comes apart and she is forced to move not only far away from home but to a place where that while change the course of her life forever.
Joshua Abrim isn't exactly your next door kinda boy either, he's 18 and the number one BMX racer on the country, he dreams of racing at the Olympics and fight hard to fulfill his dream until one night, one kiss, changed his future and placed his life in great danger.

This are the characters that hold this amazing book together both of them are great characters on their own but together they tell a magnificent story.

I literary stayed up at the wee hours of the morning cause I couldn't put Enchantment down. Is the kind of book that makes you go back in time and remember your first love and the way your heart raced every time you saw that special boy or girl that had your full attention.

It also has a lot of very powerful lessons among the pages, it talks about true love but it also talks about responsible decisions. I loved the way this book portraits that not only teenagers can make a mess out of everything, that's adults make poor decisions too and the way those choices can affect everything and everyone around you.

This is a great read guys a book full of magic, passion and angst that will have your toes curling in a delicious way.
You need to get your hands on this piece of beauty right now, what are you guys waiting for just

4.5 stars

I'm an adult paranormal romance fan but once in a while I find a YA book/series that sucks me in as much as any of my favorite adult romance authors. Enchantment, by Charlotte Abel, has done so. The first thing that drew me in was the author's spin on magic and mages. It was truly unique. It was complex enough to seem real but not confusing. And she did a great job of pacing the information so I didn't feel like I was getting hit by a huge dump of history that left me bored.

No, there was nothing boring about this book. Channie is a lovable teenage mage who's parents (who often act like teenagers themselves) just jump of the page, especially her father. The mother was very stand-offish and I was beginning to wonder if she had a single motherly impulse in her body. At the start of the book the family - Channie, older sister, 4 yr old triplets nephews, and her mom and dad, are living dirt poor in hillbilly land. But they are rich with magic.

Because of their dad's gambling problem, which landed them in trouble with some very powerful mages, the family has to up and relocate to mage-unfriendly Colorado where they have to hide their powers. Not just that, but Channie's parents decided to change her powers by changing her name (not going into how that works, you'll just have to read the book). This decision felt kind of rushed to me. I wish there had been a little more build up about this big decision with huge consequences. But I LOVED Channie's reaction.

In her betrayal she decides she's not going to be the sweet, little, daughter who does everything her daddy tells her (though by how often he threatens her with his belt, I would too!). She finally takes control, with the help of her new magic name.

The story is really her journey and told entirely from her perspective, which is one reason I like YA. Joshua, her male interest is a wonderful balance of "coming into manhood" and "boyish innocence". He wants to protect Channie but often feels helpless. The emotions of these two, and their connection just leaps off the pages and into your heart. I was rooting for them the whole time. The ending was fabulous - an HEA but room for the sequel.

The only criticism I have is that Channie was so naive coming into what we would consider "real life" when she moved out of hick-town, it felt almost wrong the interactions between her and Josh, who at the end of the book is 2 yrs older than her. And I wish we would have a seen a little more struggle when she started replacing her old magic (kinder magic) with the new more aggressive magic. And I wish she had a least SOME conflicting feelings about fighting back with her parents. I mean, they definitely weren't parent-of-the-year contenders, but children are still loyal to blood.

But Channie's journey into finding herself was enjoyable regardless. And I'll be looking for the sequel.

I highly recommend this to YA fantasy/paranormal fans.

I just finished reading Enchantment and I loved it! I couldn't stop reading and didn't want to! I very, very much love it. I loved the Oklahoma references and hearing the Arkansas accent reminded me so much of some of my family! Ms. Abel has created two main characters that draw you in and that you root for to make it because you know that love is so hard to find and these two just epitomize true love. You want them have the happiness they deserve and you did a wonderful job with Josh and Channie. And the twist at the end had me squealing for joy! There were tears too in several places.

In addition to the two main characters, Ms. Abel has created a unique and interesting supporting cast, including Channie's adorable but ornery nephews and Channie's Momma and Daddy, who provide a great motivation for Channie and Josh to rise above their challenge. I also loved the naming system that Ms. Abel used when writing, giving each character a "power-name." I have to admit I sat wondering what my power-name would be if I had one.

I teach Middle School and I think I will recommend this book for my eighth graders and a few choice seventh graders who I think would be able to handle the sexual aspect of it. I would say anyone over the age of 14 would be a great target audience and actually, maybe 13, depending on the reader. The author addresses the subject of sex without making it graphic and awkward. It's perfect for this couple and I think teenagers will be able to understand and appreciate that.

Now, I know the author just finished Enchantment but I'm anxious for a sequel. It makes me excited to think of the future for these two. I know there's a lot they have to face, but it will be well-worth their life together. I would love to read it!

Enchantment is genuinely a wonderful addition to Young Adult Fiction and I can't wait to recommend it to others!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Great book with a love story 15 janvier 2012

This book is thé first one of a series written by a self-published author. Congratulations because your story is compelling.

Thanks to a group on Goodreads, I'm a lucky reader with a free copy of this book to review. Like you must know now, I really enjoyed to read this book.

One thing is for sure : the author made her characters - Channie and Josh - suffer through the book. Each time I was taken aback by another curse, or another interaction between the characters. I never wanted to put down my Ipad and I just love this feeling.

Of course this story is a love story but very strong, cute and took my breath away a few times.
Josh is a character that made me laugh with his humor and demeanor. He's a perfect knight in shinning armor even with some flaws and all his humanity.

I had some trouble to like Channie, maybe because I had to take in all the things about magic and about what happened to her. But, after few chapters I was fond of her with her complexe personality due to the curse.

Now that I read the book and imagine what will happen next, I'm eager to read the sequel that will be available at the end of the month. This first book is perfect for readers looking for some magic with a plot centered on a love story.

I like where the author is heading with her story and I hope to see more about Channie's parents but also about this magic world still blurry for us. Many things are about to come for our lovely characters, all humans before anything else and it's that, that makes them so appealing for me.

So, thank you Charlotte Abel for giving me the opportunity to read your book. You can already count me as a reader of the sequel. I'm counting the days!
