I love Beth and the ep is fun if u r a fan. I was not happy that amazon packed a cracked jewel case in a perfect box ( meaning the box arrived with no damage, so the cd was cracked BEFORE packing). But the music is great!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Gossip becomes fact: Beth is a dance diva 8 avril 2011
Par Falsetto Prophet - Publié sur Amazon.com
Anyone who has shaken their booty to the New Order bass line and gutteral shriek of The Gossip already knows, Beth Ditto has got pipes you can dance to. But who knew she could deliver smooth, sensual vocals that shimmer over delicious dance beats? Enter partners in crime, Simian Mobile Disco (purveyors of one of my all-time favorite club tracks, The Hustler), to provide the soundscape and world class production.

If you like Robyn's Body Talk, Britney Spears' Femme Fatale, Madonna's Confessions/Dancefloor (or heck, any Madonna), Girls Aloud's Out of Control or the last Yeah Yeah Yeah's album, then this is the EP for you. This heaven-made match began with a single track on Simian Mobile Disco's last album, now this EP - please please please drop a full-length next!

Par Travis - Publié sur Amazon.com

2011 was the year of waiting, sitting on ice and pining for something with some sort of personality. With Duran Duran’s All You Need is Now technically released a year prior, 2011 has been left with nothing but pipe dreams and promises of new music. Robyn was coming down off of the high of the Body Talk era, Madonna was still in the studio mixing and Blondie’s Panic of Girls was a disappointment when stacked against their impressive back catalogue. But then there was Gossip lead vocalist Beth Ditto who almost silently dropped a collaborative EP with electro-geniuses Simian Mobile Disco. The end result of their creative time spent together, the eponymous Beth Ditto EP, was (and still is) my pick as the best release of 2011, granted it didn’t exactly have much competition aside from a bunch of remasters and the new Matt Alber, which I had yet to have acquired. Ditto, a soulful plus-size lesbian post-punk queen with a vocal style of somebody twenty shades darker than she, is a creative ball of energy, and when paired with amazing producers, she unleashes great pop music with a retro sound.

The Beth Ditto EP is a collection of dance songs that couldn’t be more removed than the manual pop-rock she’s released with Gossip, although both sounds will appeal to both the gay and straight audiences. The sparse beats and production values used on this album complement the slight echo effect used on her voice, which appears to be raw. At the end of it all, these four songs come across like a demo set, particularly when packaged with really primitive album art that makes this record seem like something released in the early 1980s. There’s a quiet command to Ditto’s voice, and the lyrics are compelling, coupled with enough funk to get anybody to start slowly swaying to her music. There is no weak outfit on this record, from the 90s-inspired I Wrote the Book to the mixtape-esque Do You Need Someone? Ditto doesn’t shy away from her sexuality, asking “If girls like you and girls like me are really dime a dozen, then why are we in such a high demand?” This girl just might be the first high-glamour lesbian disco diva who shows no signs of slowing down.

The problem with the Beth Ditto EP? It makes you want more, and it doesn't sound like she’s planning on releasing a full-length record. But maybe that’s how it should be. Such a perfect vignette of a strong woman’s talent. Buyers beware, however, the digital version is shorter than the vinyl mix, which includes added instrumental dance breaks and extra vocal wailing.

Another ultra house mix explosive; I wrote the book. Beth Ditto stars in her own retro house music soap opera. I got the vinyl of the first track and it's phenomenal. True House music with just the right elements. I've never heard of Beth Ditto until one day lurking around in EXPRESS and it came on; I shazam'd it and this unfamiliar face popped up. I got ahold of it and put the needle on it immediately. Can't believe this got pass me for this long; but the universe always has a way of making things happen. I was not too fond of the other songs on the EP, my review is based on the initial track. I would rate the entire package as a 2 but I feel that's misleading to what I'm reviewing. I tried to review it as a single song but my attempts were unfottunate so this will have to do. This song is too hot to show up in my reviews as abything less than 5 stars.

if you want something that isn't candy coated pop, this is for you. Straight raw and rugged, these tracks are a huge step for Beth toward establishing her solo project. I think it's going to be a huge hit in the underground... her first video - "i wrote this book" is so gnarly!

Definitely give this ep a shot...
