HASH(0x8c09bed0) étoiles sur 5 Maybe the best in the series since EP 1 2 novembre 2012

I really enjoyed this book, and this series in general. The story is moving along at a good pace, not too fast but not plodding. Most noteworthy is that Ryk Brown is growing his characters, we get to watch Nathan Scott struggle and eventually accept his role as captain of the Aurora. For me, at least, this has kept the series fresh and exciting. Brown also does a great job of including enough technical detail to enrich the story without bogging the reader down with endless "lectures" on orbital mechanics, astro navigation, etc. I can't wait for EP 6.

Slow build to the climax as the Aurora is repaired and refitted, with the help of the Corinari and what's left of Nathan's crew. The ship comes up to full strength thanks to volunteers from Corninair.

Nathan learns more about being captain and what it means to lead as opposed to react. I enjoyed seeing all of the characters back, especially Cameron who was out of action for most of the book due to her wounds.

This is basically a defensive action to protect the planet Corinair. I'm looking forward to see the crew go into action in Episode #6: "The Head of The Dragon".

HASH(0x8c09d0fc) étoiles sur 5 Very Good - The crew becomes much more capable and professional 8 novembre 2012

I wrote a harsh review of the previous book (#4). Freedom's Dawn left me feeling that the crew of the Aurora simply blundered through one action scene after another, only surviving due to luck.

However, in this book, the author brings about a maturation of the crew and especially the officers, and he does so in a plausible manner. I felt good about the crew after just a few chapters, and by the end of the book I felt that they were using their brains and had earned their victories.

My compliments to the author for evolving the crew into one that you can really cheer for!

I'm hoping he combines the concept of an FTL drone and a jump drive equipped interceptor and creates a cruise missile that can accelerate to FTL then jump to within a few hundred meters of a target leaving no time for the target to evade.

I'm a big fan of Mr Brown, but he clearly didn't read my review of his last book or those of several other reviewers and has produced ANOTHER filler in a series which began very well. This is a bit better than the last edition (no. 4), but really, it is clear where the conclusion of the story needs to go but Mr Brown steadfastly refuses to get on with it. In other reviews I have oft wondered aloud why every sci-fi book nowadays seems to have to be a trilogy, but a pentilogy or sextilogy? really? Mr Brown, you are full of ideas and you know how to write with pace and verve. Please do so in the next one or you will lose this fan.

HASH(0x8c09d450) étoiles sur 5 Best one yet 28 octobre 2012

There a a few times in this book that Nathan receives advice about how to be a better Captain. Mr Brown may have received some advice as well?

The characterization is the best yet, they are well developed, the pacing is good, and we start to see a few loose ends getting tied up.

Good science fiction and a fun read. Still a bit outlandish in some areas (but again, it is science fiction) and I don't know why Mr Brown has the protagonists, for the most part, so young? Is that the demographic he is striving for

Fun read, good series so far. Look forward to many more episodes
