Book Two in The Perseid Collapse Series

The critically acclaimed, post-apocalyptic saga continues...

With Boston collapsing faster than Alex Fletcher predicted, his personal rescue mission deep into the heart of an increasingly unfamiliar city reaches a critical point. Pursued by a ruthless militia group, and forced to navigate a treacherous landscape, he runs a gauntlet of grim decisions and impossible odds to reach perceived safety. Perceived because nothing is safe in the world emerging after the "event"

In rural Maine, a series of lethal coincidences fuels a local militia leader's ghastly strategy to raise a private army, planting the Fletchers firmly at the intersection of his power play--and the epicenter of his rage.

The human darkness released on August 19, 2019 continues to grow, threatening to tear the fabric of their fragile society apart...until nothing remains but a distant memory of the past.

Alex Fletcher still has to rescue his college bound son from Boston as well as his neighbor's daughter. That is no small feat as the entire USA has been blacked out by a massive EMP blast and no modern electronics are working in the country. On top of that the meteor strike on the east coast and the resulting tsunami helped to devastate the area. Chaos is running rampant and local militias are trying to take over various sections of the east coast including parts of Boston.

Many of the militias believe that the EMP blast is a result of a government takeover and they are belligerent against any form of government military or law enforcement. All Alex has to do is escape Boston with two teenagers and then travel home back to Maine with the area falling into anarchy.....

Alex's actions in this book are about the rescue and the aftermath of escaping Boston with his son and friends. His return to Maine and the defense of his family and friends is an amazing story and only his military training gives them a possible chance at survival. This series is well written and entertaining to read. This series would make a good TV series. This independent author is on a roll and his books are some of the best I have recently read.

I picked up this series looking for some good books to read. I found this author's works to be exceptionally good. He has a very good writing style and the storylines are action filled and entertaining. His knowledge of military strategy and weapons helps to make the story engaging and something that I just couldn't set down and stop reading. The book is well written and the editing is very good. His development of characters is thought out and it makes you feel that you know the people and relate to them.

The main protagonist, Alex, is developing into an indestructible force and that part of the story is a little over the top, but hey, it's his story and I still liked reading it.

The story is set into the near future and I like the action and the well thought our scenarios that are taking place. Steven Konkoly is a good writer and he has a future as an author. I was so interested in this new writer that I read his blog and he is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in English Literature. His military experience and his excellent writing skills have me hooked on his books and now I am going to have to read all of them. I rated this one a 5 star book but please read the first book of the series before reading this one. They are linked together as a continuation of the events following the Perseid Apocalypse.

The characters in this story are very well developed. They are real. You can identify with them. The series is well written, seamless. If you think you could deal with a major catastrophic event in your life, if you think you are ready, read this series. This situation is so plausible and expected by the powers that be. We have been warned. This large family has prepared for whatever might happen. Then it happens. No spoilers. But except for a couple of coincidences critical to the story line, (which are definitely not going to happen in our lives), I doubt they would have made it. Are you counting on FEMA? Forget it. Not gonna happen. This took place in Maine. I recognized every road, every town, etc. Really brought it home. The books never slow down and they make you think and wonder. They are also excellent books to read. They would make a heck of a good movie.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Keep reading to find out what happens to Alex, Kate, and the neighbors 3 août 2016

I just finished the Jakarta Pandemic and the four volumes in the Perseid Collapse series after reading steadily for about a week. (Hey... my car is in the shop, and it's the summer doldrums on tv...) Rather than comment individually on each of the 4 Perseid books, I'll make general comments that apply without giving away any spoilers.
First: The Jakarta Pandemic was by far my favorite in the series and should be listed as #1 in a 5 book series. The character development and the motivations of the characters are essential to the Perseid series.
Second: The Perseid Collapse series contains a LOT of military jargon/acronyms, and tactics. Personally, I felt the military descriptions were excessive and skip-read most of those pages. Additionally, I was left wondering exactly what the heck happened in several scenarios (perhaps because I skip-read so much?).
Third: Even with the shortcomings listed above, the character development of Alex's family and neighbors was very well done and gave me the inspiration to read all four books to see what happened to each of them.
Personally, I found the whole "militia" angle of the four book series to be implausible, especially the assertion that a secret cabal of militia had been around for 200 years and nobody noticed they existed.

I was very intrigued by the Book 1 and resolved that if another came out I'd be ready to read it. (I'm new to this author/series.) Book 2 was already out. I saw it, grabbed it up and read it in 2 days. I am hooked on the series. Alex is my kind of military guy, committed to going the extra defensive mile no matter the situation but he's honorable. This was very well written and every character was full and nuanced and the plot was well written and forceful-I almost literally slept with this book until finished, I didn't want to lose my place or the book. I am a BIG fan!

Book 2, another well written story that will keep your interest and it will get you to read it faster with all the action packed adventure with these 3 families & accepted friends into their group!
Parents will do just about anything for their kids because of their love for them.
The friendship & bonds between friends can be this strong & trustworthy as these in this story.
The storyline is so plausible, the way people will turn in the midst of a travesty.
