4.0 étoiles sur 5 WAY too narrow for natural feet. 19 mai 2015

I walk around barefoot everywhere, and wear shoes only when I have to. My all-time favourite shoes are the New Balance Minimalist TR10 Trail Runners, and I own 4 (almost dead from constant outdoors use) pairs of those. My feet are extremely wide, strong, and I have fantastic arches; so when I buy shoes I look for 3 things: COMFORTABLE, MINIMAL, DURABLE.

I thought the EVOLV Cruzer Approach shoes would fit these three requirements. Read my review below.

--- --- --- --- --- ---
STYLE 5/5:
--- --- --- --- --- ---

PROS
I wear these shoes to most places. At work, at the club, and when I go out; and I always get complimented on them. I love the ease with which I can adjust the stretchy shoelaces, which have yet to come undone by themselves! I can't stay on the floor too long, so these shoes take care of my frequent cravings to climb stuff, with confidence; and they do it in style.

CONS
None! Really dig the minimalist elegant look.

--- --- --- --- --- ---
STICKINESS 3/5:
--- --- --- --- --- ---

PROS
When shoe is clean and dry, it glues to cement and asphalt. However...

CONS
...they perform horribly on wet or dusty surfaces like gravel playgrounds, the dust covering most of the sole and rendering its grip useless to jump on metallic or painted / chromed surfaces. They may perform better on granite, which my rating does not yet reflect.

--- --- --- --- --- ---
Durability 4/5:
--- --- --- --- --- ---

PROS
I've had the shoes for a few weeks and the sole and fabric show hardly any wear. They get dusty really quickly, but a few pats on the shoe clears it right out.

CONS
I'm afraid to use these for any actual climbing outings, as I don't think the canvas will hold (that's how I destroyed my Saucony Bullet vegan shoes), but I'm reluctant to get a pair "to kill" given the issues I've had so far. Other users aren't having problems in this regard.

--- --- --- --- --- ---
Design 4/5:
--- --- --- --- --- ---

PROS
Very sturdy, not sure about abrasion resistance (haven't taken it to the crags yet). The shoes can be squished, taking up almost no space inside bag, otherwise the heel pull tab was a most welcoming addition and shoes are VERY light. Heel folds and can wear shoes as slippers!

CONS
The length of the shoe is true to size, but not the width (which is why some reviewers recommend going 1 to 1,5 sizes larger on this shoe) The microfiber lining is slippery when wearing polyester-based socks (not good for the ankles when jumping up rock hillsides), and cotton socks are too thick for this shoe; which is a bummer because cotton socks provide me with better grip and keep my feet dryer. The right shoe felt much smaller than then left. I also did not like the split tongue feel, but wearing socks makes it bearable.

--- --- --- --- --- ---
Fit 1/5:
--- --- --- --- --- ---

PROS
None.

CONS
Out of the box they were horribly TIGHT. The only way I could fit my feet was by taking off the insole and stretching the guts out of the fabric. The length is true to size, but this is NOT a shoe for those of us with really wide feet (my foot spread is wider than the shoe itself). My feet suffered quite a bit, and just when I thought it was paying off, the paper-like midsole started peeling away. I thought removing the bottom part of the insole would help, but my feet were exhausted and achy after weeks of trying to stretch the shoe and I was forced to find the most minimalist insole I could find. After trial and error, I went for the Superfeet CARBON insole; which took virtually no space inside the shoe, yet provided outstanding protection This will cost these shoes between one to two stars -- I shouldn't have to go buy insoles that are more expensive than the shoe itself!!!

FINAL VERDICT
It's a good pair of shoes. Minimalist(ish) and seems durable; but in my case, it was definitely not comfortable and I had to go through more time and money in order to make my monster feet feel like home in them. I like the look, and the fact that I can feel the terrain with more grip than other shoes I own (except my 510 Warhawks).

5.0 étoiles sur 5 great for everyday wear 10 novembre 2014

Initially I wanted these for indoor climbing, haven't tried them yet for that but wore them for doing rounds at my hospital. I like them allot just for everyday walking. They are comfortable enough at least for me where my foot pain is always under the toes and tarsals, so the memory type padding there helps allot. The shoes were wore in the first day I used them, so they did stretch out some due to the canvas material, but still fit snug. I believe the laces stretch some too but are made pretty durable so I can see these shoes lasting a long while. The size seem to be right on by Amazon description as i measured my foot by inches and ordered accordingly. Im going to try them soon for indoor rock climbing as the front edge of the shoe is smooth flat rubber just by the toes and the middle part to the heel have rubber grip. Again i mainly can see these shoes for me as everyday wear shoes at my hospital and out and about, oh and I did wear them for working out too in the gym lifting weights!!! Im going to see what they are like running on the treadmill or stair stepper. Shoes are awesome!!!

I bought my first pair of these shoes 4 years ago and still have them! holes and tears and all and theyre still going strong. Love those shoes
In fact, these are the best bike commuting shoes available! They really should market them as that. I have been commuting a very long time and these are the way to go.

The new Cruze'rs are different only slightly but enough for me to notice. The big difference is that the sizing has changed DRASTICALLY. Before I had to get a 11.5 and they fit great. Now a 10.5 is too tight (and the laces are too short??? Come on Evolv! haha) but an 11 is TOO long. So weird Evolv. I went with the 11's but am hoping that next years version has the fit problems fixed!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 quite happy with the shoes 23 juillet 2014

if you're looking for a good minimal approach shoe with little cushioning or heel drop, but still providing enough traction and protection for most approaches this fits the bill rather well. there is just enough cushioning that standing on pointy gravel is not uncomfortable, but not so much that all sensation of the ground is dulled.

they feel nice and snug on the sides, giving little room to rotate; making the shoe feel more like an extension of your foot and making it harder to roll your ankle. it feels a bit long, though. just enough so that when i step on just the ball of my foot my heel raises up about halfway out of the shoe. it hasn't slipped out yet, but always feels like it will. i fear if i were to size down any further it would be too snug on the sides.

the other problem i had was after the first weekend wearing them the very front of the sole had started to peel. it wasn't enough to snag on anything or hinder any walking, but it makes the build quality questionable. a little bit of super-glue or shoe-goo (can't remember what i used) fixed this easily.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Wonderful shoes! 2 novembre 2013

I started out ordering a women's size 12 which were extremely small, ordered a men's 10.5 which were still to small. I really liked this shoe though and ordered the 11 too. Finally the mens 11 was a fit! Because the shoe is designed for barefoot use the mens sizes are not overly wide for a women's foot.

These shoes look fabulous and feel like they will hold up well too. The double tunge feature makes barefoot wear more comfortable and is and ingenious addition. My only complaint is about the pulls at the heel of the shoes. The left shoe was immediately painful at the back of my heel. After looking at it, I discovered the stitching for the pull had end on the inside of the heel and they were hard like pieces of sand. It was an easy fix to trim them back, but I was surprised there was stitching there after so much attention was put into the comfort of the inside of the shoe with microfiber, etc.

Another favorite is the design of heel to collapse and be put on quickly as a slide on. I can see these shoes becoming my 'go to' favorites. I'm really interested to see how well they hold up with wear and how well the soles perform in the winter on slippery sidewalks. I very optimistic and will post a follow up in the spring!
