Présentation de l'éditeur

Joclyn is in hiding, hunted by the man she still desperately loves. Ryland is gone, his mind erased; no memory of Joclyn remains, but Joclyn’s heart desperately begs her to hold out hope. Meanwhile the black-eyed monster that possesses him attempts to kill her over and over again.

If it wasn’t for Ilyan, Joclyn would be dead by now.

Ilyan, the man who once stalked her, is now Joclyn’s protector, the only person she has left. He protects Joclyn from the men who seek to end her life, and all the while, she is haunted by dreams where Ryland begs her to break the bond between them.

Ilyan is there. Always there.

Ilyan trains and prepares her, teaching her everything she needs to know in the hope that one day she can avenge Ryland, if not protect herself from him.

And then, there is her father.

The man who has never been there is suddenly responsible for everything. And who he is has made Joclyn into something she never wanted to be:

The Silnỳ.

HASH(0x911794d8) étoiles sur 5 Where Can I Get Me An Ilyan?! ;o) 10 avril 2013
Par Kathy Jo - Publié sur

*WARNING* May contain spoilers... read at your own risk!! ;o)

Ummmm.... WOW!! Can I give Eyes of Ember more than 5 stars?! If I could... I totally would!! I absolutely LOVED it!! Believe it or not... I thought it was better than Kiss of Fire... which is saying a lot by the way because I loved that one too!!

Holy crow Batman!! Talk about an emotional roller coaster!! One minute I was laughing... then next I was crying... after that I was livid beyond belief... and then sighing with contentment... only to start smirking and then cringing minutes later... it was amazing!! And I loved every minute of it!! ;o)

Joclyn is in hiding, hunted by the man she still desperately loves. Ryland is gone, his mind erased, no memory of Joclyn remains. The black eyed monster that possesses him, attempts to kill her over and over.

If it wasn't for Ilyan, Joclyn would be dead by now. Ilyan. The man who once stalked her, is now Joclyn's protector, the only thing she has left. He protects Joclyn from the men who seek to end her life. He trains and prepares her, teaching her everything she needs to know in the hope that one day she can avenge Ryland, if not protect herself from him.

And then there is her father. The man who has never been there, is suddenly responsible for everything. And who he is has made Joclyn into something she never wanted to be. The Silnỳ.

Can I just tell you have much I love Ilyan... *sigh* If you thought Ryland was amazing in Kiss of Fire, wait till you see Ilyan in Eyes of Ember!! He surpasses Ryland in the amazing category!! ;o) Completely selfless... the ultimate protector... the best teacher... the most loving friend... a shining light in the darkest of times... *sigh* I will take one of him please!! ;o)

And Jos... WOW!! That poor girl has been put through the ringer and them some but still continues to move forward. With help from Ilyan, she is able to see who she really is and what she's meant to do. She learns that with him she can face and overcome anything and everything. Together they are strongest.

The two parts of the book I loved the most was when Jos finally sees Ilyan for who and what he really is too her and then finally admits her feelings for him! (I got a little teary eyed and loved every minute of it! Hehe.) And then the sparring match that follows closely after her discovery. Oh my heck!! CLASSIC!! I had that stupid little goofy grin on my face the whole time!! I just love their relationship!

Ugh! Edmund... Cail... Ovailia... Ryland. I just have one thing to say... You all suck and I hope you get what's coming to you!! I have never had so many evil feelings towards characters in book before... just thinking of them is getting me angry again! I have actual feelings of hatred for them! Grrrr.

But have I mentioned how much I love Jos and Ilyan?! ;o) Hehe.

Thank you Ms. Ethington for another phenomenal book!! I cannot wait till July for the 3rd one to come out!! I am totally invested and addicted to this series... your mission has been accomplished!! :o)

Ok...I don't write reviews, but am I really one of a few who are team Ryland?? I LOVED this book and cannot wait until July, but I am holding out that she will end up with Ryland. He has loved her almost his whole life and has suffered (to put it lightly) all for Joclyn. The ending scene with Ryland was confusing, but I think he may be still "brainwashed" and when she brought up Ilyan, it may have turned a switch in his messed up brain. I am seriously hoping that the original Ryland is still out there and is found. I don't think he is in it for the power...that was the "bad" Ryland who told her that poem about one going after light and one going after power.
This was a great read and I cannot wait until July, but please put her back with Ryland:))

Also, I just didn't feel the chemistry with Ilyan. I know he has waited 800 years and is her protector, but Ryland has been tortured over and over just to protect her! Just saying:))

Ok, I liked this book better than the first and I loved the first one! That doesn't happen very often in my experience. Four stars instead of five due to editing errors, there are not tons of them but enough to start to aggravate. Again, there's not enough to take away from the story but enough that you notice. It really is a 4.5-5 star book. The book is well written and the MC's are well portrayed. The secondary characters help the story along instead of just cluttering it up. The writing flowed smoothly. I don't write spoiler reviews, and I don't tell the readers what the book is about. I think you get enough of that from other reviews and the blurb. I will say that during the first book, and in the beginning of the second book I was all for Joc and Ryland. Now, I would much rather see her with Ilyan. Especially after the ending. I hope the author is heading, and will stay in that direction. I will anxiously await the next book in the series. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes this genre. It has magic, suspense, intrigue, traitors, friendship, humor, romance, action, and more! I do suggest that you read the first book in the series before reading this one. It would make more sense to you, and be more enjoyable to read. As I said, I loved both books in this series. I can't wait for the next one. Hopefully the author continues her trend and the third book will be even better than the first two. No pressure! I will definitely purchase more books by the author, and I look forward to it. This series is well worth the money and the time spent reading it! Buy it, you won't regret it! Happy Reading everyone!

I liked the first book, it was very good and definitely worth reading. This book is so much better! I love the relationships in this book and I love (but hate :p) the tense and frightening mood towards the end of the book. I just felt that the end of the book, the things she goes through, make this very much more adult and real rather than something transient and immature. I've seen other reviews comparing this to Twilight, now I'm a huge Twilight fan but these books are much more intense than that so far. They're also not frustrating in the sense of an easy fix...ex. she goes through awful torture at the end and isn't immediately rescued and then wakes up totally normal (i.e. what happens in the end of Twilight), it's very realistic, of course she would have severe emotional trauma and something akin to PTSD to deal with upon waking and not just be ok. I like that the author makes the ideal lover boy the most intense villain, it was very unexpected and just kind of pulls down the romantic mask one's viewing him from in the first book...because he is *too* perfect in the first book and you wonder..."really?! that doesn't really exist...".

Anyways, much better than the first which was good in and of itself. Totally something I'd read again. Really looking forward to the third one!

HASH(0xadb70870) étoiles sur 5 Please tell me July 10th is a joke 1 mai 2013

Seriously? I just finished Eyes of Ember and had conniption when I read the part where I have to wait until July 10th for the next installment.

You can't leave me hanging with those last lines! I get why Jos wants to do what she's now determined to do, but still... Is it sad and sick that I'm still rooting for Ryland? Ilyan is great and all but my mind keeps replaying that scene from the first book where him and Jos are slow dancing in the middle of the battle and he's brokenheartedly singing the Frank Sinatra song to her/himself (VERY impressive imagery there btw), and I keep thinking there are so many lies within lies and double crosses within double crosses it makes it very difficult to believe Ryland won't triumph over Ilyan in the end.

Ok, I know that just came off as an enormous and selfishly whiny rant there, but whatever. It should only stand as testament to how much the story sucks you in and makes you think and get involved. It's so engrossing for me, it just might border on unhealthy.

As a side note- yes the story is told from Jos's perspective throughout the entire story, and where *a* reviewer might think that limits the story, I think it only strengthens it. It's not meant to be seen from multiple perspectives, or told from multiple voices. It's Jos's story, and hers alone to tell. I love this about this story. She's not stupid, has weaknesses, self-doubt, and is critically flawed, but in the end she's a fighter, determined, and even when the odds are stacked against her, she still finds the strength to trudge forward, push back, and elbow her way into a new level of growth and self-examination. This is not a superficial story about a dimwitted girl who suddenly inherits the powers of the universe. This is a story about an intelligent yet *human* girl being pulled into a world she is wholly unprepared for yet willing to fight to stay in and survive.

If you've read the first book and enjoyed it, you will enjoy this one as well. But it isn't a pretty story. There's love and heartache, blood and pain, small victories intermingled with crushing losses; Don't read this if you are looking for a romance, or "love conquers all". Where there is some of that and the author gives glimpses of more in the future, it isn't what This book is about, so don't assume it's what you're going to get. This is a story about survival and strength, and about a girl who does her best to fight for what she knows is right and for what she loves.
