Présentation de l'éditeur

In the dead of night, Josie Bates is ripped from sleep by the sounds of an epic storm raging over Hermosa Beach and a man beating on her door begging her to help Billy Zuni who is drowning in the raging sea. She arrives at the shore just in time to see the teenager pulled from the water, battered and near death. Ready to kill Billy’s selfish, neglectful mother, Josie rushes to the Zuni house only to find someone has beaten her to it. Two men lie dead downstairs and Billy’s mother clings to life on the floor above. Spurred on by Hannah’s fear that Billy will be framed for the murders, Josie takes up his defense. But Billy is evasive, physical evidence points to his guilt, and the county counsel wants him committed to the state. With the clock ticking, Archer and Josie set out to find the mysterious man who can vouch for Billy’s whereabouts at the time of the murders. What they find instead is a web of intrigue and deceit that stretches half way around the world and an eyewitness who is blinded by a justice Josie cannot understand.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Not as good as earlier books. 13 novembre 2016

I’ve liked Forster’s Josie Bates novels since reading the first one. This one, however, wasn’t as good as the earlier entries.

The backstory scenes at the start of many chapters were distracting and broke the flow of the story. They also gave too much away and diluted any build-up of tension in the story because I figured out the core of the plot around Chapter 4. This story would have been better without them.

There also were a lot of ‘production’ errors in this download – wrong words, paragraphs run together, and the like. By now flubs like that should be a thing of the past in all e-books.

This story ended on a mild cliffhanger – Hannah, Josie’s ward, and her friend Billy Zuni run away as a result of events in this book. Reading the synopses of the next two books, I fear Forster might be falling victim to ‘story creep,’ the urge to write stories that are bigger in spread, scope, and length. Sometimes that’s a good thing, but sometimes it isn’t. We’ll have to see how Forster does.

It's funny because I actually started reading the 6th book in this series before I read this one. I few chapters into Forgotten Witness, I realized I was missing something, so I searched Amazon and found this book. Mystery solved! I immediately stopped reading number 6, and began this book. If I hadn't read the beginning of number 6, this book may have been more of a mystery, and thus more suspenseful, but I sort of unintentionally ruined part of it for myself :-/. Still, I loved this book just as much as I loved the first four book in the Witness Series, and recommend it if you have read the others. You do need to have read the first books to understand the story line in this one. Although the plot is a bit different than the others, I find that to be a good thing. Who wants the same plot- and I find the twists to be quite well played and the layout of the story to be very well written. I don't want to give anything away, so please enjoy the twists and turns this book provides :)

I was disappointed with Eyewitness, especially after enjoying the author's novel Silent Witness. What I liked about Eyewitness was getting to know Josie and her growing family as well as some of the other people from the earlier book. Unfortunately, this book seemed somewhat pedantic and plodding, covering some details simply to fill out some pages rather than expanding the storyline in a way that kept it moving or more genuinely thrilling. This book often did not keep me eager to return to it, even though an interesting twist included international goings on involving Albania smuggling. Despite my disappointment, I'm glad that I read this book since now I know the people in Josie's world even more. I know that sounds weird. I guess I'm hooked.

To be honest I struggled to get into this book. There were a few times I almost gave up. It was the frustration of not knowing what was going on that got me, it was like I was reading two different books. I'm pleased I persisted as once I found out what was going on it all sort of made sense in a way and when I eventually got hooked I had to read to the end to find out how everything turned out. However, I don't think the technique of writing two different stories in alternate chapters quite worked. The stories were so different, not even taking place in the same country or the same era, and until they eventually merged and overlapped, it was just too confusing. The neatly wrapped up ending was also a little unsatisfying, as if it was written just to set up a sequel. All in all it was an okay read, but nothing to do a happy dance about.
