Description du produit

Présentation de l'éditeur

Four things define Todd Frikker’s existence: the remote Frikker Island, vaguely referred to as an unmarked shipping hazard on a long expired nautical chart; the detestable Dick Frikker, the only other inhabitant on the island and the one person Todd had ever known; two locked rooms in Frikker Hall that have tested his curiosity from the age of reason and a mystery supply boat he has been prohibited from making contact with since birth.

Everything changes for Todd at the still tender age of thirty when Dick dies unexpectedly, allowing him free reign of Frikker Hall. Evidence of an outside world he has never known begins to emerge and Todd starts to unravel the secrets of his family and the events that led to his existence.

Dressed practically for comfort in a lady's crimson gown with lace trim, coupled with some 'chest pockets' for the transportation of useful objects and large codfish, the endearing, intelligent but extraordinarily naive young Todd embarks on a hilarious adventure filled with innocent misunderstandings, unusual people and an island called Fahrt.

This is undoubtedly one of the funniest books I have ever read and the intriguing plot kept me riveted to the end. I loved Todd Frikker and the extraordinary characters he became embroiled with on his arrival in Fahrt; no ordinary place by any stretch of the imagination. It was a real page turner and a thoroughly enjoyable read. Highly recommended and I would be hard pressed to give this book less than 5 stars.
5.0 étoiles sur 5 Rumic for a fine comic romp 12 octobre 2015

Thank you Mr. Rumic for a fine comic romp, mixing naiveté with mischievous play, leading to unavoidably cataclysmic consequences. The more mischievous the character, the less likely a good outcome.

The story has three parts. The backstory of Todd on F.A.H.R.T Island. Then his quest to Frikker, another, larger island, where he hopes to discover his roots, and along the way he becomes enmeshed in a world, of nutty characters all seemingly intent on mayhem. Finally he returns to F.A.H.R.T. where it all concludes in a grand comic-romantic synthesis.

Todd, as his names sounds is a bit odd. When his almost solitary existence on FARHT becomes completely solitary, he escapes its confines. He is persistent, he wants to find out how things came to be, his history, the history of his family. Todd’s character is like a sponge, he absorbs both what he understands as well as what he has no clue about. The people he meets on Frikker are involved in their lives, they live to enjoy themselves, sometimes at the expense of others, which often comically leads to results far from their initial schemes. Todd’s is both sexually and ideologically naïve, but he learns quickly.

But not quite as quickly as the renovations on his house in F.A.R.T. This is the only disconnect I had with Mr. Remic’s work. This small construction crew’s magnificent results proceed as only as they could in fiction. A minor issue.

The dialogue is crisp, compact and the tempo is easy going with occasional climaxes, typically at the point of complete drunken chaos. The tale is told in the third person, with Mr. Remick’s dialogue doing most of the heavy lifting. Frothy and as light as champagne, the story carries the reader along to its comic-romantic conclusion. Great fun, served with an eye towards the frailties of all types of relationships.
