5.0 étoiles sur 5 Loved this book 13 décembre 2013

Loved this book. I just found out about DFS in 2013 and have been somewhat addicted. For others who have likewise stumbled upon it: read this book! It is very in-depth, yet easy-to-read. Bales doesn't just take the angle of "I'm good at DFS, so listen to me". He uses actual data from thousands of Draftkings contests to show you what actually works and what the winners are doing. This has never been done before, as far as I know. He shows you average salary cap allocations if different contests by winners, and score distributions for different types of contests.

Bales teaches us how the NFL is inherently random and how looking at stats for the NFL (which has a smaller sample size) is an entirely different process than for the MLB. He teaches us which stats are predictive in each (ie signal) and which are useless (ie noise). It's very eye opening. The bit on analyzing batting average vs average on batted balls is truly thought-provoking.

Another thing that is KEY is he devotes a whole chapter to heads up and 50/50 play, and another to tournament play. Any veteran DFS player knows that these are two entirely different types of contests that require different type of lineup selection (ie safety vs upside). Bales goes deep into selecting the optimal types of players for each contest. He includes player prototypes for each NFL position (ie should you take mobile QBs and in what type of contests? HR hitters?) etc.

Bales teaches us that are numerous ways to win in DFS, not one secret strategy, yet there are many key traits and processes that long-term winners employ. He interviews some of the actual top players in the world, and they give you their actual process for selecting lineups for NFL and MLB. This includes their thought process, research process, how many lineups they enter, how many different players they use, what type of players they use, and more.

This is an all inclusive guide for anyone who seriously wants to get into DFS. It is very in-depth, yet very readable because Bales is able to concisely articulate his points in writing or using uncluttered graphs and tables. I've been playing DFS seriously for a while now, and I can honestly say that this (and Bales' other book on this topic 'How to Cash in on the Future of the Game') are the only books I have ever read that contribute straight to my bottom line. This book aims to increase your winning percentage, and it will. I have half of the book highlighted, and I'll be referring back to it often.

PS: This book is about NFL and MLB, but the MLB parts could also be applied to the NBA and other sports where there are a lot of games. Because of all the content regarding how to manage bankroll and go about entering different contests, I think NBA DFS players could get a lot out of this book as well.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Awesome book 12 décembre 2013

I’m a novice DFS player but here’s my take:

Love the length. I think with a book like this you can end up reading 400 pages of statistics and walk away having learned nothing. Jon does a nice job of presenting meaningful information that isn’t
overwhelming. It’s a quick read but packed with information, I know I’ll be rereading sections, especially when MLB season rolls around.

Speaking of baseball, I’ve never played DFS MLB or even really followed baseball but I’m pumped for the baseball season to start. If you’ve been in a DFS slump or don’t play NFL/MLB, this book will be a big motivator and/or make you want to try a new sport. If you go read a book on stock trading you’re probably gonna walk away feeling more confused than when you started it. After finishing Jon’s book I feel like I have an edge in DFS MLB despite never playing it before (whether or not that’s true is TBD lol).

Anyway, great read. For the price, it's a mistake not to buy this book.

I have been playing daily fantasy sports for about 9 months, and I can say without a doubt reading this book will make you money. Whether you are a seasoned or casual daily player, or especially if you are a season-long player considering getting into daily fantasy sports for the first time, this is a must-read. Jonathan combines never-before-shared data from DraftKings with his own insights designed to provide actionable suggestions (based in hard data) to fantasy players.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 It is an easy read with a lot of information 14 juillet 2014

Definately 5 stars! This man knows his information. It is an easy read with a lot of information, recommendations and stats that will help you with your daily fantasy playing. My only regret is not getting the book sooner. I waited about a month and then bought it with a couple weeks left of the the NFL season and the book paid for itself and then some right away in the first week. Jonathan gives you information where you can do research to help make the most accurate pics. Some of the information is obvious but A LOT of the information are things you just never would have thought of before that should help you succeed. I couldn't stop reading it. I made some notes and then reread it again and picked up even more informatoin. Definately a must read to be successful!
