This set of 12 mostly instrumental pieces combines the classical sounds of Bach and Beethoven with original material by Sullivan. The first item is a rendition of material by Bach called “Bouquet of Bach” and number 11 is “A’la Mode to Joy” and sounds just like the reference to Beethoven suggests.
The music is slow and steady throughout, gentle, easy listening that will calm you. As the cover suggests, music to sit back and drink a glass of wine while it is playing. A helpful tool to help you unwind after yet another strenuous day. It is also effective snuggling music.
To me, it is also ideal music to put on when you are doing cleaning, particularly in the kitchen. Such work always goes better when you can put your mind elsewhere and elsewhen, keeping only a little back for the work itself. I listened to this CD for the last time in preparation for my review while I was loading the dishwasher. Effective multi-tasking.
Sullivan is clearly a very talented musician, in this case specializing in music to put your mind at ease so that your body can follow. It is equally suited for when you are in a chair or tackling a chore that you would prefer not to do.

HASH(0x929decb4) étoiles sur 5 From MainlyPiano.com 18 avril 2007

"Feast of Joy and Love" is pianist/composer Laura Sullivan's fourth release to date, and I think it's her best so far. Consisting of seven original compositions and five arrangements of classical melodies, this CD exudes warmth and feelings of contentment and joy. Along with Sullivan's piano, "Feast" features the debut of her ethereal vocals along with quiet orchestrations, samples and effects, and percussion; Eric Sullivan provides back-up vocals, Anthony Blea appears on violin and Noel Jewkes on saxophone.

"Feast of Joy and Love" is presented as a four-course "meal" that begins with "Bouquet of Bach," a medley of that composer's "Minuet in G" and "Jesu, Joy of Man's Beholding." Piano, strings, keyboard, and Laura's beautiful vocals bring these well-worn classical gems right up-to-date and give them a carefree spirit. "Cafe des Artistes" is a tender duet for piano and violin that celebrates the special place in Mexico where Laura and her husband became engaged. With the rhythm of a graceful waltz, the two instruments create a sweet, heartfelt dialog. The melody for "Waltzing With Beethoven" is based on the slow movement of "Sonata Pathetique," and piano with gentle keyboard accompaniment is all this piece needs to soar. The "First Course" section of the CD begins with an enchanting layered vocal arrangement of "Greensleeves." The instrumentation on this is very spare, allowing the angelic voices to take wing. "Pinot Noir" is an elegant yet sultry duet for piano and sax - a perfect slow-dance with that special someone! "Morning in the Meadow" begins with the sound of birds chirping and becomes a piano solo with subtle keyboard washes - music doesn't get much more peaceful or serene than this - sigh! The "Second Course" opens with "Albinoni's Secret Smile," based on "Adagio" by Giazotto and Albinoni. Layers of heavenly voices with light instrumentation make this one of the stellar highlights of this album - wow! "Porch Swing Night Romance" celebrates the simple pleasure of sharing a porch swing with someone you love - pure contentment. "Dessert" includes "A'la M'Ode to Joy," a delicate but exuberant arrangement of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy." "Last Kiss" ends the "meal" with a bittersweet piano solo that is reflective and somewhat more ambient than the other pieces - another beauty!

Laura Sullivan has outdone herself with "Feast of Joy and Love"! Highly recommended!

This fourth CD moves Laura's music in a romantic direction. The classical influence is still ever-present but she delights us with more original compositions and adds yet another dimension to her musicality--delicate harmonic vocals revealing a clear, pure voice in any octave. The timeless melody of Greensleeves seems to lend itself endlessly to creative variation and Laura's is done with celestial grace.

Lovely- simply lovely! Feast of Joy and Love is the new CD from Laura Sullivan, a Grammy Winning composer, arranger, pianist, producer, and author. She won the 2014 Grammy Award for Best New Age Album, and I think this album is even better.

The idea here is that music is a feast for the soul and senses, so here's a four-course feast for your listening pleasure.

Mostly instrumental, but in a few pieces you can hear her lovely soft lilting soprano voice. I especially loved Greensleeves.

Do not confuse this with the same-old "New Age Relaxation" music you can buy anywhere. Yes, it's classified as new Age, and it's relaxing, but really this would be great just for playing during a holiday party (especially a romantic dinner!) or just while relaxing and reading a good book.

I rcvd a copy for review.

I really enjoyed listening to Laura Sullivan's music, her “Feast of Joy and Love.” It is arranged as if we are participating in a sumptuous romantic meal with special foods and candlelight. There are twelve pieces, three in each of four parts: starters, first course, second course, and desert. There are five borrowings from great classics performed in a delightful and tasteful manner.
The music is a pleasure to listen to as background and especially as one sits back, relaxes, and listens. It is perfect for young and old.
I placed the disc into my computer and my screen showed the name of each piece of music as it was being played.

As we know, we live in a fractured and divisive world, most famously in Washington, but also among Amazon reviewers, who will differ sharply in their opinion of books, electronic products and most everything else. Therefore it was heartening to see the overwhelming positive response to this album, which celebrate themes that should always be “in season.” Admittedly, when I was offered this album for review, I was a bit concerned about the “New Age” angle, which I tend to associate with “elevator music.” I was wrong. There is real substance to this work, a pleasing mixture of variations on classical favorites as well as original compositions.

Laura Sullivan is a pianist and a composer. On the classical bent, there are variations on Bach, Beethoven, and the perennial English folk song, Greensleeves. And for those of us of a “certain age,” she has two original works dedicated to that era of long ago, before the ubiquity of air-conditioning: “Memories of the Ice Cream Truck” and “Porch Swing Night Romance.”

Overall, this album is simply “soothing,” as numerous other reviewers have said. Her piano is supported by violin and choral accompaniments. So, if you feel yourself trapped in a needlessly tense, combative, commercial and even Kafkaesque world, Sullivan’s work is a wonderful retreat that helps you recall what is truly important: the graze of fingertips along the back that create a frisson of excitement and anticipation.

Sullivan is prolific, having produced a number of other albums. One that also caught my eye is Pianoscapes for the Trails of North America: With Johann Pachelbel Canon in D Piano, Relaxing Music, Spa Music, Background Music, New Age Music, Calming Music, Wedding Songs, Canon Pachelbel. I’m pleased to join “the crowd” on this one, with a 5-star rating, and I am certain to be purchasing some of her other works.
