Ouf !

Finding Pride

Jill Sanders has stunned readers again with another breathtaking tale of true love. We are introduced to the strikingly beautiful girl Megan Kimble, who has had her heart used, abused, broken and ripped out and decides she will probably never trust again. As this wonderful lady begins to pick up the shards of her broken life, her beloved brother dies and she must move into his home and take over his business.

This is where faith decides to intervene and the story gets really spicy, her brother’s best friend and business partner Todd Jordan has taken a strong liken to Megan and for them to have any chance the least at happiness, they must face a dark and evil ghost from Megan’s past… her ex.

This was nicely written, remarkable tale from this author.

I saw no evidence that this novel had received the benefit of editing or proof-reading. It was poorly written and full of errors in both grammar and punctuation. There were inappropriately used words, the repetition of a limited number of adjectives and awkwardly phrased conversations between the characters. The story did not flow very well and didn't make much sense in some places. The main characters were uncomfortably drawn and did not seem right for each other. The weak, confused heroine was not ready for a new romance and the hero apparently had some emotional issues of his own. His tendencies towards anger, jealousy and a need for control were not too admirable. I couldn't feel much for either of them or their odd, clumsy relationship. This novel is in need of some major restructuring and polishing. The effort might have been acceptable as the product of a high school writing class, but is certainly not worthy of a professional writer.

Megan is running from a very, very bad, abusive marriage straight to her brother's home, but the brother dies before she arrives and that's when the story starts. She gets there just in time for the funeral and afterwards is taken in by the town of Pride and the family her brother had been friends with and gone into business with. She's determined not to become a victim again and to have no personal relationships for a long time. She fails, of course, and that happy failure is the story of this book.
It's not an elegantly written book but the story is alive and true and the characters come across as real people and the town of Pride, Oregon as a place I'd like to visit.
I give this book 4 stars. Professional editing would have improved it. A few typos and a little incorrect English language stuff, nothing major. And I thought the hero, who is great and wonderful and well portrayed by the author, somewhat resembled the villain, who is as bad and as awful as it's possible for a villain to be. At least it seemed that way to me. But those things were minor and in no way detracted from the story.

The blurb and the general idea of the story were what made me start this book. I'm trying so hard to continue but it's just too stupid (the simplest way to put it) for example, "Matt was like a brother to him, not only his best friend, but like he was a brother". There's more where that came from and I've only just begun. It really irks me that this book has more than two stars especially with all the errors that could have been prevented with simple editing. I shall give this book a rest and try again tomorrow.

This was a good book; however, it contains strong language & very explicit sex. The book would have been better w/o either. Please reconsider reading this book. :(

I'm disheartened to read that this author has been writing since she was 11 years old!! What schools did she attend?!? Or worse, who were her English teachers? The grammar, punctuation, and abundance of typos caused me to delete this book from my Kindle only 2% into the story! Here are some examples, taken verbatim from the beginning of the book:

"A face that had the same light eyes as his sister." (So the face has a sister?)

"The Jordan's are your nearest neighbors..." (NO apostrophe to turn a noun to a plural!)

"...his hair was longer than his sisters" (So either his sisters are ant-size, or there's a lost opportunity for an apostrophe here--where it's actually needed! And this implies more than one sister, but only one sister is mentioned)

"His jaw was strong with the smallest of clefts in it, his lips..." (clefts are in the chin, not the jaw; and I won't mention the misuse of a comma here)

" who where weather worn from years on fishing boats..." (is this supposed to be "were" instead of "where"? and if so, is it the men themselves who are weather worn, or their skin?! If the men themselves are weather worn, what would that mean exactly?)

"She was use to crowds." (USED)

"Well now, if you change your mind, just let me know." The Father said patting her hand one more time." (One of my favorite consistent mishaps: the blatantly poor use of punctuation in dialogue.)

Run on sentences; subject/verb disagreement: "Megan, this is my brother Iian, he's hearing impaired, we uses sign language to communicate, but he can also reads lips really well." She said while continuing to sign. (Sigh...really?! Did anybody proofread this work?!?)

Here's another, what would this be? Misspelled word, improper reference, or just lack of a clue? "He likes to ease-drop so be careful what you say while facing him." (ease-drop?!?! EAVESDROP)

The above reflect a fraction of the poor writing I suffered through in just the first 2% of the book--small wonder I was disinclined to proceed any further. It's a shame, too, because the story line actually has potential, which is the only reason I read THAT far! That this book is part of an actual series is disturbing.

Kindle: You really need to spring for editors!
