5.0 étoiles sur 5 Fiona, classic melodic rock 15 août 2013

Having recently discovered Fiona, I can't seem to stop myself from listening to her debut album over and over again. It is a short one, but 7 of the 8 songs on the CD are so amazing that I can easily forgive the length of the album.

The last one, "Na Na Song" is the only one that doesn't do much for me. "Talk to Me" is the best in terms of vocals, as Fiona really shows her range in this song. It was a minor hit that really deserves more recognition.

"Love Makes You Blind" is a great ballad with a nice rock edge. My only problem with it is that this CD contains the short version; the one in the music video is about a minute longer.

"James" and "Hang Your Heart on Me" are fun rockers, and "Over Now" stands out for its awesome guitar solo.

"You're No Angel" is another song that should have been a big radio hit. I love the guitar work, and the chorus is a really catchy tune that's easy to get stuck in your head.

Fiona's voice is chilling in "Rescue You", a great rocking tune, and my personal favorite.

If you like melodic rock, you should love Fiona.

This is Fiona's first album, and it sets the sound that would become her signature. This is full on hard rock with just a bit of a pop edge. Fiona's voice takes center stage as she takes us on a fun freewheeling cruise through the 80s musical landscape. Yet, at the center of the music is a real sweetness, and sincerity. I think this is Fiona's own personality coming through the production. Even the power ballad, "Love Makes You Blind", is a likable bit of fluff.

Fiona would go on to make more albums, but this is a good introduction to her talents, and a solid debut.

Love Fiona! Still have the cassette tape. Couldn't find the cd, so downloaded the mp3s. I haven't heard it in almost 15-20 years and I still knew the words to at least half the songs. It's a perfect example of great '80's pop. Love it.

I was familiar with this since it came out in 1984. First I borrowed the record from a library and copied it, then I bought the cassette. Recently I bought the MP3 album, hoping it would sound better than the cassette. Unfortunately it doesn't, and that's why I only gave 4 stars to this otherwise great mini-album. It's one of the rare albums I like most of the songs on enough to play them frequently. I love Fiona's voice, I have all her old stuff in one form or another, and I'll probably get her new album soon.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Great AOR album 15 janvier 2007
Par Justin G. - Publié sur
Format: CD
One of the better "rocker chick" artists of the 80's, Fiona bridged the gap between the Pat Benatar/Scandal pop sound and the so-called metal being served up by Lita Ford and Vixen. Fiona rocked, but there was always a melodic, pop quality to the songs.

Fiona released her self-titled debut album in 1985. With just 8 tracks, it's a brief album, but I think it is still one of her best releases. 1985 was such a good year for this kind of AOR/melodic pop/rock, and this album definitely captures that vibe. "Talk To You" was the minor hit from this album, but nearly all of the songs are "single" quality. It's full of great guitar hooks, catchy melodies, and above all Fiona's powerful voice.

Fans of Annica, Robin Beck, 80's era Heart, and the artists mentioned above should love this album. This is 80's pop/rock perfection.

Edition Notes: The good people at Wounded Bird reissued this album in 2004. While I'm glad the album is back in print, it is a pretty bare-bones reissue. The songs haven't been remastered, there are no bonus tracks, and the liner notes are minimal. They did include a picture of the alternate album cover that went to the European market though.
