Rich Froning: CrossFit Champion
A biography

I enjoyed reading about Rich Froning but only for a little while. It was interesting reading about his family and background and how he grew up and the book is at its best when Mr. Froning takes you through the games and competitions themselves.

It was not what I was expecting. There is nothing in this book about learning to be come a better athlete (mentally or physically) or a better CrossFit(er). In short, this is a very short biography with a lot of Born Again Christian themes.

Froning is a two time CrossFit Games Champion. He has beaten a lot of other people in some tough events. There is nothing detailed in the book about how he trains or what he eats. Just general stuff like:
"I work out five times a day...based on how I feel...I eat what a feel like..."
"I follow the Forrest Gump diet plan: when I'm hungry, I eat; when I'm thirsty, I drink."
"To get better at CrossFit do more CrossFit".

Yes, you have to push yourself beyond your mental barriers but how does Rich Froning do that? What does It Take for Rich Froning to do that over the last 2-4 years? That's what I was expecting based on the title and the reason I bought the book in the first place.

HASH(0x8a7ec558) étoiles sur 5 Enjoyable, fun read 11 juillet 2013
Par Ben Reed - Publié sur Amazon.com

If you have any inclination towards CrossFit, you'll enjoy this book. Rich chronicles his rapid rise to success in the CrossFit world, sharing his story from life on the farm to back-to-back "World's Fittest Man" titles. Reading this book is like sitting down with Rich over a cup of coffee. Or, more likely, over a protein shake after a WOD. (workout-of-the-day)

Every time I read a portion of the book, I wanted to throw it down and start working harder. Rich's work ethic and passion are infectious.

Equally infectious is Rich's faith.** It's genuine, and you see it laid bare in this book as he does battle against his own pride. I found his faith refreshing, bold, and courageous.

The big question Rich wrestles with throughout the book is, "What legacy am I going to leave when I die?"

Hopefully you're asking something similar.

For Rich, faith and fitness go hand-in-hand. I've found the same to be true, which is why the book resonated so well with me. When I'm disciplined with my body, I find myself more disciplined spiritually.

This is a great summer read. And a great read just in time for this year's CrossFit Games, as Rich looks to become the three-time champion for this sport.

HASH(0x8a7ec798) étoiles sur 5 Keep yout expectations low - writing is dull and just 'plain vanilla' 9 février 2014

I admire the man and his story is very interesting... but his writing is not very interesting or captivating. It is rather shallow and does not make me feel like I know more about him - I do know his story but not HIM.

And that is okay - I wish him best of luck and he is an inspiration to many, and I hope he continues to change lives.... But this book left me feeling unfulfilled. Rich isn't a good story teller or a writer, so keep your expectations low.

The man might be 5 stars, but the book is 2-3 star territory. If he put as much effort into writing a compelling and colorful story as he does into multiple daily workouts, it would likely come out with a higher rating.

HASH(0x8a7ec93c) étoiles sur 5 Great Book about CrossFit! 16 mars 2015
Par Andrew Smith - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
In First, Rich Froning wrote a personal autobiography about his life and his journey in becoming a two-time CrossFit Games champion. His parents taught Rich that hard work really does pay off and is required to accomplish and be successful in life. In middle school, he grew up loving to play baseball and he had a dream of playing in the major leagues but after his parents divorced he stopped liking it. When he was a junior in high school, he tried playing football and in the third game, he dislocated his shoulder and his football days were over. He decided to give baseball another shot and when the school had a new Coach, Butch Chaffin. Coach Chaffin taught him how to work out and this prepared him to train for CrossFit, he just didn’t know it at the time. His team made it to the co-champions of that district. The rest of the book he walked readers through the problematic training for the CrossFit games and how his determination and faith kept him pressing on to the finish line.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who enjoys books related to fitness especially to people who love CrossFit. Though I haven’t personally tried CrossFit this book taught me a great deal about the sport. I liked how real he was in sharing about the challenges and preserving through the different games no matter how massive the tasked appeared. I liked how the book contain CrossFit definitions about the different activities where readers could understand what they consisted of. I loved how he revealed his testimony and how Jesus became his personal Savior and how he gave God credit for the glory for all of his victories. I also liked how he shared the story about how he met his wife, Hilary. Rich Froning has a remarkable that will encourage readers to never give up on their dreams and to press on even when it’s difficult to. If you’re looking for a new autobiography to read, then read this book!

HASH(0x8a7ecd14) étoiles sur 5 Honest and Interesting Insight into the Mind and Life of a Champion 10 juillet 2013
Par T. Booher - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
CrossFit is still a new and growing sport which is misunderstood by many to be a place only for the elite. Rich Froning brakes down the barriers between the most elite tier of the sport and the most casual reader as he lays out his life and worldview in an amazingly fast and engaging read. His book has three main themes constantly woven together in an interesting narrative: (1) explaining CrossFit, (2) telling us about his life and (3) sharing with us insights about his faith and philosophy.

It is rare to find such an honest and optimistic account from someone with so much fame and talent. While his readership will most strongly come from CrossFit fans, he packs some great lessons for all of us that have broad application well beyond CrossFit. Like his fitness training regimen, he doesn't hold back or shy away from the key principles that guide his actions and frame his world. All this results in an intimate portrait of his strengths, weaknesses and casual thoughts. Part of what makes this narrative so engaging is the casual style he engages you with as he takes you through the CrossFit victories and defeats that define his nascent career. You have to keep reminding yourself that he is winning first place (consistently now) among roughly 100,000 athletes. While he takes you into the action, you are motivated by the thought that you too could compete at his level if you just were willing to work hard and get your mental house in order. Unfortunately, reality reminds you that Rich has something very rare that remains incredible from a fitness perspective. You are aware of the power of context in his life -- he gives due credit to his friends and family for providing rare and outstanding counsel, love and wisdom.

Out of the roughly 30 books I've read this year, I have to say I've really enjoyed reading this one the most -- both my wife and I read it in about a day as we fought for the book. Most modern biography seems to make the subject more inaccessible as details of their life unfold. Here, Rich has done the opposite, by the end of the book you know that you would be instantly comfortable around him and are inspired to make your life look a little more like his.
