If you know even a little about Fist of The North Star, you'll probably find more than a few things to like about this game. It's somewhere between an alternate reality/timeline and a "what if?" scenario, so even if you know very little, you'll get the important stuff.

Fights get more advanced as you do, spending points on passive buffs and active skills increase your survival and lethality. Some of the moves you may, at first, think you'll never use or see. But then, you get into a big fight and Ken is just exploding people left and right, up and down, frontways and backways. At a certain point you'll stick to the perfect channel to speed up the generic fights, but even then it's a gory mess. One flaw is that parry is a flawed skill, that has an extremely specific timing. More often than not, you'll take a hit, so stick to dodging.

Story is fun, combat is fun, side missions are ridiculous. I'm not talking about the generic "get this" or "fight this," I'm talking about bartending, club management, and being a doctor. Ken wears a suit well and can do everything just as well. Bartending is more enjoyable, with some humorous scenes and even more humorous techniques. Club management is similar to the Yakuza series, and only seems more complex than it really is. Spend a few minutes with it and you'll tear it up (when you're not recruiting). There are races as well, but driving is kinda wonky until you get better parts, so it's not really much. Doctor Ken cures problems and kills bad guys in a beat-based game where you jam and heal. It's... magic.

Fist of the North Star is a diamond in the rough. Being a video adaptation of a reeeealy old anime, you’d expect this to be a senseless cash-grab to appeal to long-time fans of a niche series.

BUT NO. This is a genuinely GOOD GAME! Lost Paradise is made by the team at Sega in charge of the Yakuza series! A wonder series about a tough fighter who’s out to fight against an evil world to protect those he cares about. So... BASICALLY the entire original story of Fist of the North Star as it is.

Going onto gameplay, you play as a tough martial artist who punches people SO HARD THEY EXPLODE! The combat is deep, the moves feel impactful and the game gives you so much to do between head-explosions. There are side missions where you run around a small city working at a bar mixing drinks, operating a night club, racing about in dune buggy races, and even a casino. You can even unlock a host of older Sega arcade games!

And then there’s the wasteland. So, you’re given a straight up car to venture around the post-apocalyptic desert in. It handle SUPER well, you can even upgrade it with parts you can find out in the desert to make it go faster, have better fuel efficiency, turn better, etc. This game has stupid depth.

Maybe watch a bit of the anime and manga before going into this though, you’ll enjoy it more that way.
