4.0 étoiles sur 5 Not Long Enough...LOL 24 février 2013

Ok, I waffled back and forth and would have given it 5 stars....but as well written as it is, it felt too short, maybe a little rushed. Now that may be OUR fault (the readers) for pushing for the next book! The book is well written and I rushed through it devouring every digital page....and felt like I was unceremoniously dumped out the other side of a water tube. I WANT MORE. LOL

Anyway, I LOVED IT. I agree with one other reviewer that it feels like this was just a chunk out of an epic novel...that it wasn't meant to be broken into separate books. But that's ok because I too am a believer!!! I believe I can continue reading about the Kreelans as long as Mr. Hicks continues to write about them. Watch out Michael...there will be fan-fic writing clubs spawned from this series! I will impatiently wait for the next Harvest book to come out while I also wait for the next In Her Name book to come out....while I wait for whatever else Mr. Hicks is going to work on next to come out....well you get the idea!

great read! read the series!!! re-read the series (I have!)

Personally I'd really like to know how many people have found this gem of an author!!! Folks who are only willing to read hard-copy are missing out!!! I love instant-kindle!
4.0 étoiles sur 5 She doesn't give a damn about her bad reputation 31 mars 2013

Michael Hicks started this series slowly, through the eyes and experiences of a human orphan. He's pushed through a complex history, full of battles, death and impossible challenge and odds faced by his chosen characters. Here he introduces an alien girl who appears to be the basic crux of the whole story. Her name is the reason the battles of the future were fought. Her energy still imbues those who live on and wreak havoc upon the rest of the universe, including the wimpy human race. In this novel, Keel-Tath figures out what a pain in the ass becoming a legend is. She beats the odds just staying alive. Her enemy is the most powerful woman on her planet, and everybody seemingly is out to end her life. Definitely an angst-ridden youth and way worse than Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation" would illustrate. Good read.
4.0 étoiles sur 5 The author has created a world that is easy to imagine 29 octobre 2015

Science fiction, military fiction, fantasy - I don't know which category to place this series in. The Kreelan Empire, the world and sociology are alien, but at the same time resound within our own mythology. Is the young female heroine the fulfillment of prophecy who will help bring their world to a higher place or is her foster father a washed up old man believing in a fantasy? How much is honor worth and what happens when it is traded for the success of your own group over the success of your world?

The author has created a world that is easy to imagine, a species that is easy to picture, a war we know has been fought before and will bring destruction. A science that is part magic or spiritual. You can easily lose yourself in this world, the story, and the characters. At the same time, I think it leads us to ask the same questions of our history - war, prophecy, hope, evil, and growing up to discover our elders often have feet of clay so that rarely can individuals simply be defined as good or bad. Even the dishonorable may have honor.
5.0 étoiles sur 5 I have absolutely devoured this series. 27 janvier 2017

I have absolutely devoured this series. I flew through the first 5 books in under a month, and would have gladly spent even more time on it if I'd been able. The characters are well developed enough to allow you to get attached to them and the story line is palatable through and through. Hicks really nails the internal dialogue of each character, and that truly brings them to life. I'd say it's a relatively easy read (for me at least) but in no way boring. I'm not usually into the Sci-fi alien invasion theme, so I was wary of taking on this series - but decided to due to good reviews - and I haven't regretted my decision one bit. I will be recommending this series to my fellow book worms quite highly.

I was introduced to Michael Hicks by an email from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. Deciding I had nothing to lose by trying a free first introductory part, I very quickly got deeply involved with the whole Redemption trilogy and the humanoid Kreelan race.

I next moved onto the First Empress story and am blown away! I'm in awe of the author's imagination in creating and describing a whole world that feels at once so alien and also somewhat familiar to my own somewhat warlike genes.

I love the picturesque writing stlye and attention to detail in the painting of the Kreelan's Homeworld. I sure do hope that the coming last part of the First Empress story is not that last of the Kreelan tale. I imagine another epic story about the end of the Second Age and the oracle who predicted the coming of the First Empress 200,000 cycles before. Please give us more history of the Kreelans, Mr. Hicks!
