Présentation de l'éditeur

Fire almost killed her years before. Will rekindling a dangerous friendship finish the job? At age 15, a horrific fire left Grace Jensen scarred and highly sensitive to the pain of anyone she touches. Thirteen years later, living with her hoarder mother and half-in-love with her former doctor, her long-absent best friend, Marly Kennet, returns to town and convinces Grace to make a leap-of-faith trip to Las Vegas. There, Grace discovers she not only feels others’ pain, she can heal it. This healing gift soon turns darker when the truth of Marly’s past and the fire that scarred Grace is revealed, pushing the boundaries of loyalty and exposing both women to danger. With the intensity of a thriller, and a touch of magic realism, Forged in Grace leads to a dramatic climax in which she must choose between healing and revenge.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Crackles with feeling, imagery 28 février 2013

Forged in Grace is the compelling story of Grace, who was the victim of a treehouse fire when she was 15 years old. The books begins 13 years later, when we meet Grace as the sheltered daughter of a hoarding, protective mother, assistant to one of the doctors who helped her heal after the fire, and a animal lover and rescuer. When her former best friend, wild child Marly, returns to their sleepy seaside town for her grandmother's funeral and asks Grace to return with her to Las Vegas, Grace begins to uncover secrets about herself, Marly, the past together and what really caused the fire that changed their lives.

No spoilers here! This must read thriller crackles with energy, imagery and moving messages. From the writer of Make a Scene, Write Free! Attracting the Creative Life (with Rebecca Lawton), and Milk & Ink: a Mosaic of Motherhood, Jordan Rosenfeld's debut novel is intriguing, thoughtful and blazes a trail for indie authors to follow.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A deliciously dark tale of fire and friendship, healing and redemption, jealousy and loyalty 15 avril 2013

In hauntingly beautiful prose, Jordan Rosenfeld paints a vivid picture of burn victim Grace Jensen's life just as her previously-absent "bad girl" best friend, Marly, comes storming back into town (and Grace's life). Grace's world is turned upside down as Marly convinces her to leave the only home she's ever known for the bright, glittery lights of Sin City. We, the readers, are then drawn into Marly's intriguing and sometimes dangerous world, filled with mermaids and secrets, as Grace rediscovers herself...and Marly. The writing is captivating and powerful, and it pulls you in with each chapter. The relationships are complex and authentic, and each character has layers that, once you delve deeper, you find yourself spellbound by their motives and their story. The themes of friendship, redemption, and healing that play out between the pages of Forged in Grace are evocative without being obvious or detracting from the story's compelling narration. Forged in Grace is a powerful read that will seduce you into reading straight through to the last page, where you'll find yourself entranced but craving more.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Magical realism in equal measures. 9 avril 2013

At first glance, Grace is an unlikely heroine. She's deeply scarred, inside and out, living a small, sheltered life with limited interactions with the outside world. But her internal world is so vivid, her humor and loneliness so relatable, that you can't help rooting for her. Leaving the comfort of her home and venturing off with the mercurial Marly, Grace must face the secrets of her past (I actually gasped when the truth came out) and the weight of responsibility that comes with her power to heal others but not herself. A wonderful blend of suspense and storytelling, I couldn't put the book down. In fact, I bought it in paperback as well as on my Kindle, because it's the kind of book you want on your shelf to revisit passages again and again.

I bought this book because I have, on occasion, briefly met Jordan at writing conferences and retreats. So I wanted to support her by buying her book. If it wasn't for the casual association I probably would not have purchased the book. I'm a visual person and the cover... not that appealing to me, personally. Then I read the blurb and again, it was not something that appealed to me. But I was going to read this book no matter what!

To my surprise this has turned out to be one the best books I've read in a while. Every scene, every chapter moved me forward -I had to know what was going to happen. I haven't stayed up beyond my bed time reading a since.... it's too long to remember. This book, however kept me beyond my bed time, I had a hard time putting it down! Thank you Jordan Rosenfeld for writing such a wonderful story.

As a mother, any book containing tragedies affecting children is tough to pick up, but I'm so glad I made this exception. A beautiful tale of heartbreak and adversity told through the lens of the exceptional protagonist, Grace, the story centers around a childhood tragedy that left her burned, physically changed forever and finds her living with her mother, who reminds me of the mother from "What's Eating Gilbert Grape".

I found myself drawn to the friendship and betrayal side of the story as Jordan Rosenfeld captures the complexity of enduring female friendships in a way that is brutally honest and yet allows the reader to see the story from all sides. For all the adversity, it is a beautiful story of hope and healing. An exceptional kind of love woven through the web of tragedy, angst, and time.

Beautiful writing, wonderful storytelling, a fantastic read I highly recommend.
