4.0 étoiles sur 5 It took two listens... 7 février 2013

...for me to come to grips with this disc. I bought it based on hearing "Venice Beach" on internet radio. My first listen was in the car, not the greatest place to hear a new disc, I admit, and after it was over, my impressions were all over the place. Some tracks I loved, some seemed pretty good, some I had to resist the urge to FF thru. I was so conflicted that I went home and listened to it again immediately. Much better listening experience. There were still at least two tracks I found disappointing, mostly because they started out with a theme, but never developed further, and ended up being....boring and repetitive. There was a (to me) annoying tendency on several tracks to interject electronic "rifs" that were jarring sonically and didn't add the the songs. On to the good..the aforementioned "Venice Beach" still is my favorite cut, followed closely by "Wall". Most of the remaining tracks are very good, and I especially like those with vocals. There is evan one track "nothing" that is pretty much pure Rock. Overall I am glad I ran across this offering. Oh, and one other plus...only 8 bucks!

Just buy everything from The Egg. Keep in mind that they're THE Egg.
After a couple of months of really soaking up this band, I have them at least well on their
way to be ranked up with my favorite bands: Led Zeppelin and Pat Metheny. That's
pretty remarkable company. Listening to some Beatles undertones, even influences of
Nelson Riddle, and Yes; jet speed riffs, background noise that matches remarkably....
the creative talent and expression thereof has been apparent in every SONG that I've
heard by The Egg. Not album or group, but every song is very deep.
I say give these guys a chance, and they might stretch your eclecticism like a rubber band.

I just recently came across this artist through Amazon as a suggestion. I bought and downloaded the entire album and then listened to it on my ipod constantly. Many of Egg's songs remind me of early Zero 7 and I have to say that song "Angel of my Soul" and "Wall" were my fav's. I really enjoy finding new groups like this, it truly is the music i love the most. I'm 31 and haven't done drugs in years, however I appreciate the music that can mentally bring me out to that "place". Hopefully some of you get what i'm saying. Anyways, it's a fabulous cd for car driving to and from home. Helps keep me relaxed but not to the point of dosing off. Oh yeah, "Venice Beach" is another great one on this album. No lyrics, just the wonderful sounds of that intro guitar and then, .... well many, many different instruments in this one. Who know a harmonica could be so cool? : ) Just check it out!

Caught "Venice Beach" on XM Chill, had to have it. What these guys do well is 1) compose music and 2) play it. Much of the stuff veers towards instrumental, with maybe backing vocals. Few have the fullness and diversity of sound to pull that off, these guys thrive with it. What I like to do is play tracks 4-8-9-10-11-4, a short six-song set that lasts 36:58, a great way to start a weekday. Fact is, there's more music than you need here, 65:20 worth. Love it to death, it's truly great in a LOT of places!
