4.0 étoiles sur 5 Warning - Not a SACD 21 avril 2009
Par Ron Hartman - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD Achat vérifié
The Amazon listing for this item is not correct; this is not a Hybrid SACD. In fact it's not a SACD at all. There does appear to be a SACD only version here:

That aside, the enclosed booklet describes this disc as 24 bit-96kHz, along with the regular cd layer. My DVD player does recognize it as a 24 bit stereo disc. And the sound quality is excellent, certainly equal to or better then some SACD discs I have. I'm curious now how good the SACD would sound, but don't plan to buy it to find out.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Impressive interpretation of well-known music 28 décembre 2000
Par Chris Honingh - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
I am fortunate that radio-broadcasting companies in my country (Netherlands) and until recently Belgium radio provide opportunity to compare several recordings of the same piece of music. On one of those occasions I heard Vivaldi's Le Quattro Stagioni, being the first four parts of Il Cimento dell'Armonia e dell'Inventione (12 parts in all). In recording terms, these are the most mutilated pieces of music of all time. However, a characteristic of good music is that it is immune to how the music is played, be it a hurdy-gurdy or a Stradivarius, the piece will withstand all violent attacks. Formally, most of Vivaldi's music is court music, and more specific its origin is clearly the dance. Although bound by rules, the music was not static like its Renaissance counterpart, which was more rooted in religion. The many courts of 18th century Italy craved for his music and it was recorded that Vivaldi could not handle the demand. Sometimes his output, which was overwhelming, tends to sound like variations on a theme, apparently some sort of musical recycling was not strange to him. However, the credit for reviving this all too familiar music goes to Accademia Bizantina under Ottavio Dantone. Not only the orchestra plays stunningly well and original, the solo-violinist Stefano Montanari, achieves wonders. Moreover, the recording quality of this disc is exquisitely good; the interpretation is powerful when it is needed, melancholic and tender without sentimentality.
The booklet states that this audiophile disc was recorded utilizing 24-bit 96 kHz technology, without any compression or equalization of the signal at any stage during production. They recommend playing it on a DVD-player and if you have one you should be able to hear the difference. On decent stereo equipment, the definition is more than stunning.
5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Most Incredible Performance!!! 22 décembre 2012
Par ClassicalMusicLover - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
This is the CD version only of this recortding. This performance has incredible energy, PASSION and excitement yet is restrained and exceedingly ethereal in the slow movements. There is incredible playing by Stefano Montanari on his baroque violin and he never gets ugly. His intonation is right on target. The recording is incredibly detailed with gorgeous reverberation of the church. The original recording was was a PCM recording made at 24 bit at 96 kHz sampling frequency then converted to Red Book 16 bit 44.1kHz for this release. No manipulation of the original has been made. There is a multi-channel SACD version as well which is even better than this CD version and it is it incredibly detailed with the "I'm actually there" feeling that is a hallmark of SACD format!!
And this recording I like even better than my previous favorites which were Vivaldi - The Four Seasons / The Academy of Ancient Music, Christopher Hogwood on Decca, Vivaldi: The Four Seasons on Sony, Vivaldi: The Four Seasons on Teldec and Vivaldi: Le Quattro Stagioni on an Accent SACD. Listen to Stefano Montanari in 5 channel surround if you can (You can find the multi-channel SACD version here: Four Seasons. If you don't have an SACD player, BUY ONE, the realism and detail is incredible!!!! Even on this standard CD or multi-channel SACD, this is a Four Seasons you will not want to miss no matter how many versions you have!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Engrossing Baroque HIP 5 juillet 2014
Par lenazifrog - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
HIP works best on pre-Mozart music. Mozart and Haydn can fit nicely into HIP but I think their protean musical world lends itself at least as well to the Grand style. Something about Bach and the rest is primal, un-modern and so doesn't translate into the big band. Karajan's Brandenburg and Vivaldi just doesn't click the right way.

Within the past three decades HIP has overreached into the worlds of Beethoven, Brahms, and even Bruckner and Wagner, which caused me to despise them for the longest time. I still can't abide HIP for the sake of itself, that is, Roger Norrington, Gardiner, and similar English. In fact I wish death on Roger Norrington. Pinnock is reliable in a Karl Boehm way but without the grandeur of the VPO supporting him, which diminishes his effect.

Ottavio Dantone and Reinhard Goebel's Musica Antiqua Koln are the only HIP bands that reach the heights for me. They simply perform with real conviction and personality, whereas Hogwood and Gardiner are buzzing sewing-machines. Norrington is worse than that. He seems to genuinely enjoy defiling sacred idols of the past.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Idiosyncratic performances 3 décembre 2012
Par Stephen Doonan - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD Achat vérifié
I wish I loved this set (composed if this and another separate CD) of Vivaldi's 12-concerti group called Il Cimento dell'Armonia e dell'Inventione.

But I hate it. The performances seem so self-importantly stylized and idiosyncratic, and the sound, which is highly touted as being recorded in "24-bit, 96Khz" resolution, is very grating and annoying, with little bass and highly accentuated upper frequencies. I love this set of concertos but I greatly dislike this recording and performance of them, I'm sorry to say.
