'This is a funny, lively account of Normandy life' --Sainsbury's magazine

Dear George, I'm delighted to have picked up French Kisses on a discount table at my local bookshop here in the wilds of Maine, USA. I was looking for something sunny and light to counter the darkness this time of year. I am staying here this winter. Believe me, this is a culture unto itself. I adored FKisses and am now ordering all your books. I also love the French, but know only the Quebecquois. Thank you for making the dark, cold nights brighter. --Debbie Boerger

Présentation de l'éditeur

In FRENCH KISSES George East, our world famous raconteur, funny man and the ultimate innocent abroad encounters another array of weird characters and situations as the notorious Fox of Cotentin nobbles the local chicken show, and a fishing boat disguised as a carrot runs aground in a village square. Elsewhere, a Parisian clock-repairer poses as the Prince of Darkness, while a synchronised drinking team clashes with the baton-dropping champions of all Normandy. There's also the descendant of Nostradamus who makes his predictions after rather than before the event.

If you like to laugh at life and the foibles and follies of human nature anywhere, just relax, pucker up and enjoy some affectionate embraces from a master story-teller…
George East is the present day guru of French Living and Life with the French countrypeople.

FRENCH KISSES covers the last nine months of George and Donella East's life at their beloved mill and cottage (La Puce) in Normandy. It opens at a New Years gala with everyone dressed in formal attire except George, who's wearing a carrot costume. Even after years in the French countryside, he still has trouble with the local patois and "fancy dress" means one thing in England and another in France. Despite this faux pas, he has a great time eating, drinking, visiting, and admiring the many variations of the traditional Gallic shrug. When HE shrugs, however, concerned French friends are convinced that the carrot suit is giving him a wedgie. Such are the daily humiliations of a British ex-pat in France and George has learned to roll with the punches.

By August the Easts have reluctantly sold the mill and are moving to a large old manor house which they hope to convert for tourist rentals. George's income as a writer is precarious (i.e. not much) and additional funding is necessary if they are to remain in France.

If you haven't yet made the acquaintance of the Easts and the other inhabitants of the village of Nehou you should do so without delay. Such notables as Rene (The Fox) Ribet, Albert the Acrobat, Dodgy Didier, Madame Ghislaine the bar owner, and Jean-Claude (reluctant carpenter and wanna-be gigolo) along with the hundreds of British ex-pats who regularly share their stories with the author give these books off-beat charm and fascinating story lines. Either there are a lot of eccentric, very amusing people in France, or George attracts them like black clothing attracts cat hair. This series and his latest (FRANCE AND THE FRENCH) contain some of the best written, most entertaining reading out there.
