Quick read, quick forget.
Rate : young adult, low ambition.
Simplistic, minimal style, completely silly story framing. Huge ignorance of any forces thinking or principles, poor tactics, abysmall ignorance in physics (or writer's laziness?)...
Gets 2 or 3 stars thanks to the fast pace of action.
Cheap kindle 3 books pickup, my first and last from this author - until he gets a proofreader to build a book around his inventions.

Quite easy to read, but you need to buy into the whole story first.
The book focuses on action, and most of the time leaves a lot of freedom to the reader to imagine the layout of scenes, the environment around the main characters...
The story is very much centered around the main character, and does not give too much space to the other ones, which could have changed the feeling that this is a piece of litterature targetted at 15 years old boys.
alltogether a good book to read in a train or plane.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 The Frontiers Saga: Episodes 1-3....a roller coaster ride with perfect pacing 1 juin 2014

Great SiFi space opera with strong characters and interesting story lines....without the in-depth and often times boring hard science fiction. If you liked/loved B.V. Larson's "Star Force" series then this saga is right up you alley. I'm on Episode 5 and going strong. Someone wrote "Star Trek on Steroids", I would say spot on target!!

I rate this book 4.25 on a scale of 1-5.

Just to help put this book, and other similar types, into perspective here is a list of some of my favorite SiFi books (I tend to like action/adventure/drama with great characters and creative story lines):

Dune (my personal all time favorite space opera) - Frank Herbert (5.0)
Hyperion (the Book of Cantos series is awesome and ends with a bang) - Dan Simons (4.5)
Heroes Die - Matthew Stover (more Fantasy than SiFi but an awesome edge of your seat read) (4.5)
Star Force Series (all 10 books are fun reads) - B.V. Larson (4.25 on average)
Old Mans War - John Scalizi (4.25)
Forever War - Joe Haldeman (4.25)
Forging Zero (a brutal and nerve racking read, but fun) - Sara King (4.25)
Enders Game (fun story, but IMO not as good as many rate it) - Orson Scott Card (4.0 - 4.25)

Thanks for reading :)

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Not as good as I hope it would be! 21 mai 2015

I am an avid reader of Sci-Fi and I was looking for a new series to start. I found this set of three books combined and I thought I would give it a try based on the highly rated reviews. Overall I found the book just average. Each of the three books just seemed like chapters in a book and not a compete story. Every one ended the same with a major battle, injured crew, damaged ship and a new dilemma to face in the next chapter, err book.

I found each book's action to be very repetitive and the characters shallow and naive. It is not a bad story for a new indie author, it is just not one of the best set of books I have read. I expected solid military Sci-Fi and the behavior of the immature crew members and the way people mouthed back to the captain of the ship is insulting. Frankly he should have had them walked to air lock and ejected a couple into space and the crew and civilians would have listened to orders more intently.

The books reminded me more of a YA Sci-Fi series except for a little foul language occasionally. I rated the book at 3 stars. I probably will not continue the series as I didn't find the storyline that good.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great Series, Hours of Enjoyment 9 janvier 2016

I'm not a huge fan of really weighty sci-fi, big space operas and the like. I like sci-fi that's easily readable, so no convoluted politics, a relatively small number of protagonists and some good action. The Frontiers Saga has all this and more. It's not a popcorn sci-fi series, but isn't grand space opera either. This series is enthralling, enjoyable and not overly heavy. There are plenty of moments of tension which kept me reading into the wee hours, but there are just as many moments of light-hearted banter interspersing the action to make this hugely readable. The characters are interesting, believable and develop well over the course of the series. I've enjoyed every moment so far and haven't had to skip any pages yet.

I waited months before beginning this series but since starting it just over month ago I've burned through half the series. You should really be prepared to spend $57 on the entire series which currently sits at 15 books. While that may sound a lot to spend do bear in mind you might only get two or three novels from other authors for the same cost. This series is value for money, but more important it's an absolute page turner. Suitable for YA & older readers. Get it.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Good so far. Pretty basic. Written like an action film. 27 septembre 2016

I consider myself a mid-level reader. I'm not so much in it for the action and excitement, though it's appreciated. I'm more in it for the adventure in the sense of the exploration and creativity the author has to offer. The imagination of what is plausible in our universe.

I am part way through E.2, and I feel that this book is written to be more action-film style than plausible and scientific. There are many times when I feel like the obvious answer is, well... obvious! I find holes in the storyline and find myself skimming the surface of this universe. I'm not pulled inside because of the recurring reminders (plot and scientific holes, etc.) that I'm only reading a book. I expect a storyline that flows in a sense that is plausibly realistic, solid, and not "Hollywood" polished.

I don't feel like this book is quite to the point that I would buy the next set. But we'll see howthe final episode goes. I hope for growth in the story as result from growth of the author.

Intense! Captivating! Well written characters so well described they seem alive and real! I could "see" this series almost as clearly as if watching a movie! Lots of characters but easily kept track of. Just one suggestion, there needs to be a break when switching from one scene to another. At times it took a minute to realize that I was reading about something elsewhere. Kind of confusing. Hated coming to the end of book 3!
