Light is really helpful... especially when it's dark and you need to see... And having a light when you need it can transform a potentially dangerous situation into one of complete safety.
But if you're like me, your flashlights are usually somewhere else when you need one because there's no easy way to have one with you all the time...
So Gerber has innovated once again to bring us the Bear Grylls Micro Torch - Flashlight.
At first glance I noticed that the Bear Grylls Micro Torch is very compact and light weight, it seems durable and quality made... And it comes with the Bear Grylls Priorities of Survival Pocket Guide.
It's about the size of my thumb and has this mini-lanyard that makes it easy to attach it to a zipper, key ring, belt loop, backpack, knife sheath or just about any gear that has mesh, a handle, a loop or strap.
It also easily slips in the pocket and is barely noticeable.
The Micro Torch has 1 L.E.D. bulb and has 3 light settings that are activated with each sequential click of the rubberized button in the center:
-Click one turns the flashlight on "high" and puts out 8 lumens.
-Click two is the "low" setting and puts out 3 lumens.
-Click three is "beacon" mode.
In this mode the torch blinks about 120 times per minute at 8 lumens. This is great for making your location known and it's handy for walking, jogging or riding your bike near a road if the sun goes down before you get home.
We wanted to see how long the Bear Grylls flashlight lasted and discovered that the Micro Torch shuts off after about 5 minutes to preserve battery life in all 3 modes. This is a great feature and prevents "pocket dialing" your flashing and it being dead when you really need it. You can just press the button again to turn the light back on for another 5 minutes. Gerber says that run time of this flashlight is 3.5 hours in high, 9 hours in low and 6 hours in blink mode... so we'll have to go with their numbers, which seem reasonable to me.
The light is surprisingly bright for how small it is and will help you see pretty well up to 30 or 40 feet.
Okay... so what do you do with the Micro Torch when the batteries fade? Well, I was happy to discover that Gerber designed the Micro Torch so that the batteries can be replaced.
To change the batteries you will need a mini-phillips head screw driver.
The batteries are a common 3 Volt Lithium watch battery that sells for less than a buck a each online... and it's really easy to change them when you need to... (Check out my full review on YouTube for a demonstration - search "bear grylls micro torch ultimate".)
For your convenience, I'll put links to a mini-screwdriver and the replacement batteries you'll need in the video description on YouTube.
We give the Bear Grylls Micro Torch a VERY rare 5 out of 5 Stars for it's design, durability, usefulness, brightness, the multiple light settings, the battery preserving auto-off function and the ability to easily replace the batteries...

The concept of this product is what I like more it is small, very well made, brighter than you might thought, and due to it size is more like it that you can always carry it, if you work in an office you can't always carry all your survival equipment like for example a Gerber 31-000751 Bear Grylls Survival Series Ultimate Knife, Serrated Edge, or a flashlight like the Gerber 31-001028 Bear Grylls Hands Free Torch AAA Light with Battery Storage or the Gerber 31-001031 Bear Grylls Survival Torch, but this small flashlight can help you out in a blackout let say for example when you are in a Elevator, Basement, looking for an Emergency Exit, or you are just looking for something in a dark spot.
I haven't see Bear Gryll using this small item, but I would have to say this is a small survival item, useful as backup or in some urban situations. So I really recommend it.
