Présentation de l'éditeur

King Richard is dead.

The theft of his taxes prompts the newly crowned King John to dispatch Sir Guy to Nottingham in order to retrieve his taxes and hang the bandits of Sherwood forest.

The Sheriff of Nottingham feels the noose tighten around his own neck as word arrives of King John's orders. The lawman of Nottingham has the king's missing taxes in his lockbox and worse, there are no bandits in the Sherwood. He must survive long enough to escape with the stolen money. The only way he can do that is to play villain in the hunt for the mysterious outlaw, Robin Hood.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Lots of good reasons to read this book 4 juin 2013

There are a lot of good reasons to read this book.

**A neat premise. I have read a few takes on the Robin Hood story over the years, including one where Robin was female, but hadn't previously run across one where Robin Hood was made up by the Sheriff to cover his own misdoings.
**Attention to detail. The historical setting felt very real, from the physical setting to the way the culture and politics worked at the time.
**Good mix of action and humor within the overall story. I'm not sure if the author intended this, but I kept having a vision of the book as a movie and picturing it as having action scenes interspersed with almost slapstick comedy as the sheriff keeps digging himself deeper as he is trying to extricate himself from the situation.
**I was at college with the author. Okay, I guess that may not be a reason for you to read the book, but it is so cool to find that someone you actually know is now a writer.

The only thing that gave me pause was something that is probably due to my unique way of looking at things, and that was the pace of the writing. I could have used a lot more complex sentences, or at least longer ones. You know how they teach you in school that a period makes you stop? Well, I felt like I was being stopped when I wanted to keep going. If I had been editing this book, I probably would have replaced half of the periods with commas or semicolons or some other punctuation that doesn't make you keep starting and stopping all the time.

I know, that is probably a really strange thing to notice. But that's just the way I am - I react to patterns and details that most people don't seem to pay attention to, and they can become very distracting without a concerted effort to stop focusing on them.

All in all, I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fantasy and retellings of classic stories. It's a good addition to the Robin Hood legacy.
4.0 étoiles sur 5 Robin Hood as you have never known him before 12 juillet 2015

As one who has lived with a Hood for more than 50 years, I find myself interested in stories of the ubiquitous Robin. This book by Wilson Harp is not your run of the mill " Robin Hood and his Merry Men" even though they are all part of the story. The author takes a tack that I had not considered in the past. When I was done, I found his premise quite plausible.

I really liked the main character Robert, the Sheriff of Nottingham . Mr. Harp does not get bogged down in description and history and yet I could see the action quite easily in my "minds eye" How the townsmen created an outlaw out of whole cloth and caused the people around then to see the picture they painted is pure genius. It reminded me that we tend to all see what we want or expect to see.

My complaint, if it could be called that, are editing and grammar errors that showed up from time to time. The good news was that many of them were toward the end and I was so immersed in the story that I could gloss over them. But they were there.

I would recommend this to readers of all types. It is not deep but not froth either. There is not violence but people do get killed. There is not a lot of sex even though there is a love interest.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 This is the first book that I enjoyed enough to write a review 13 septembre 2014

This is the first book that I enjoyed enough to write a review. It was a free book of the day and I picked it up on a lark. As most have read, it takes an interesting tack on the Robin Hood legend that I thoroughly enjoyed. I wish more authors would break out of the formulaic story line and try something new as this author has done. The characters are interesting and watching the legend develop with a wholly new dynamic made it the best free book I've read. Great job, and I recommend it whole-heartedly (even if you have to pay $2.99!).

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Nice twist on an English favourite. 15 janvier 2014

A very nice take on Robin Hood and very believable in fact. An easy quick cosy read and most enjoyable. Good plot and good characters with a subtle touch of romance. There were very very few editorial mistakes which I put down to the transfer to an E book. There were however a few words used that were not in the English language in the 1100's but much later in the 14, 15 and 1600's, one for example "perfidy". For keen historical fiction readers such things stick out like a sore thumb. I felt the price of $5.99 was little high for this Kindle edition but all in all a well written and exciting novel. I look forward to Wilson Harp's next book

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A new and different take on Robin Hood 28 mai 2013

Just like his other novel, Bright Horizons, this new take on the Robin Hood story is well thought out and planned. Even some of the minor characters have interesting back stories. The various intrigues and dynamic relationships the protagonist maintains added much to the story. The biggest surprise was discovered early in the story, but in itself will keep you reading just to see how all the threads work themselves out
