I had problems with this board since day one. I have been using Gigabyte for years, running several GB boards even now. I thought this will be another good product. I do not know when Gigabyte decided to remove one of the RAM locking latches (system used and proven for decades) and instead use just one. The RAM installation is awkward and goes against logic. Instead of applying pressure from the top, equally across the module, it has to be inserted (slid) on one side and then only locks on the other. After the board started acting up (freezes before showing BIOS screen) and reporting various errors, I have decided to remove both RAM modules and use just one for the initial setup. The retention latch BROKE OFF as if it was made of ginger bread!! This has never happened to me before.
Another problem is the multitude of power connectors on the board. Instead of the regular 24 pin + 4 pin CPU (or sometimes 8 PIN) 12V the board has both. So even my Corsair 850W modular PSU did not have both cables that I needed.
My hate towards this board only increased when £49 Asrock MB worked right out of the box, with just one 24pin power connector and one 4 PIN CPU.
As soon as I connected third VGA card (Radeon HD 7990) the system would not even boot. Reporting IDE/SATA error codes and just random ones which had nothing to do with VGA or PCI-E bus. I re-flashed BIOS to the latest version to no avail. I tried to use the flashing utility from manufacturers website and even the one from Windows application pack (part of MB utility sw) and both reported the newly downloaded BIOS to be outdated!!, even though it was not and version numbers confirmed that. Only after reading through on-line forums I found out that the flashing sw was the problem and had to download a different version from a link provided by another user. After all that the flashing has happened but the problem still remains...
Gigabyte tech. support was kind enough to send me a revised version of BIOS (one which was not available even on their website) but that took quite a while and in the mean time I have already replaced the board and did not feel like going back and recreating the original setup just to try to re-flash the BIOS again.
I liked the various buttons placed right on the board (Power sw, Reset, Bios reset etc..) but if the board worked the way it was meant to I would not need to push them more than once or twice. This board has cost me so much time and effort that I never want to see it again. It could not handle basic configuration, not even talking about BTC/LTC mining. The Asrock that cost 1/3 of the price of this board has performed perfectly, even though that apparently, for both boards, the 3 card setup (actually 6 cards as 7990 is a dual GPU card so Windows sees 6 cards) seems to be the limit of this chipset, none of them would work with 4 VGA cards.
Sometimes this board still "freezes" on restart, hangs there for about 10 seconds, then restarts again and only then starts to boot.
Stay away from this MB, definitely not worth the price and effort. Maybe if you are really obsessed extreme over-clocker who needs voltmeter readings straight from the board.
