Biographie de l'auteur

As a boy, crafts and decorating guru Stephen Brown found himself in post-holiday doldrums after every big celebration, but he learned that through crafting for the next upcoming occasion he could turn those feelings around and literally "Make every day a holiday!" After working as a costume designer for television and film, Stephen launched Glitterville, his successful line of giftware and home decor products that has been featured in Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion, Southern Living, Country Living, and numerous other publications. When he's not crafting, Stephen is traveling the globe producing new Glitterville products.

HASH(0x954e3b9c) étoiles sur 5 Celebrate A Glittery Holiday 19 octobre 2014

This is the type of book I still prefer in a traditional paper print format. The photographs are wonderful and I would appreciate looking at them even when I was not in the middle of crafting. stephen Brown has made this a real celebration book. These are the kinds of crafts a family would love doing together and appreciate the memories year after year.
I enjoyed the poems about the projects, but wish there would have been one more to end the book, give it a more finished feeling.

The first 20% of this book is a wonderful introduction to tools and materials, followed by excellent tips and techniques.
The crafts are for everything one needs to celebrate a winter holiday, from forests and village buildings to snowflakes, snow people, glitter gnomes and reindeer!
I did think Candy Claus would take a higher skill level and more time than the other projects.
I will be adding this to my wish list for a paper bound version.

I read this an an ecopy from NetGalley and would prefer to own a paperbound version myself.

When I saw this book, I thought it would be a fun way for my girlfriend and I to do something Christmassy and fun together. This book is filled with adorable projects that I would love to have in my home. Sadly though, I think I'll leave it to her to make the designs from this book. I don't think I have the chops.

This book contains twenty crafts for the winter season that I absolutely love. There is so much glitter, y'all, and I love it. The instructions are step by step, and fully illustrated so that you can follow along with the pictures to ensure that your crafts are coming along nicely. There are also a lot of techniques used in this book. The author provides steps for these too, but as an un-crafty person, some of them, like using a sewing machine, just aren't in the cards. These designs are too cute but there are things like sculpting faces or painting them that, again as a non-crafty person, I don't think mine would come out quite the same as the author intended.

That all being said, my girlfriend is the artistic one between us and she didn't have a problem with any of the skills or techniques that the book called for.

The designs that I thought were the cutest (though it is super hard to pick) are the Glitzen the Reindeer Candy Box, Nutty as a Fruitcake Party Hat & Frosty Folly on a Swing.

This book gets four stars from me because the designs are glittery and adorable and fantastic, the steps are clear and fully illustrated, and the techniques are well explained, but it also comes with a warning: If you are non-artistic or new to crafting, proceed with caution. This seems more like an intermediate level book.

Thanks to Netgalley & Andrews McMeel Publishing for my copy in exchange for my honest review.

If you (or someone on your holiday gift list) is looking for more than the basic, traditional simple craft book, this beautiful volume is for you. Author Stephen Brown walks you through a host of unique crafts. It's kind of like Martha Stewart meets Tim Burton (but in a good way.) The book is as lovely too look at as it is to read. This is my first experience with the Glitterville series, but I'll be seeking out other volumes.

I realize that I am dealing with matters of personal taste here so the star rating is rather meaningless in that it reflects personal opinion rather than the merits of the book, but I don’t see this book appealing to someone unless they haven’t outgrown Dr. Seuss or liked that Nightmare before Christmas movie. Otherwise you’ll think the author is the gay son that Martha Stewart always wanted. If you prefer traditional Christmas decorations, the kind you see in Colonial Williambsburg or a Dickens novel, you will not want anything out of this book.

On the plus side the book is lavishly illustrated in full-glitter-blown color and step-by-step instructions are given for each craft (thus 2 stars).. The project on pages 34-37 might be interesting to try. It reminds me of some candy cane and lollipop ornaments that were on the first Christmas tree I can remember (3 1/2 years old) and were on every tree I had until I was 18 (lost them in a house fire the following September).

I seriously want to make everything in this book. Because glitter! The crafts are a delight and the photographs are gorgeous. Perfect, whimsical layout. I'm guessing most crafters will have a great deal of the materials and supplies in their stashes already (I know I do!), and if not, the materials are inexpensive and easy to find. The instructions are well-written and easy to follow. Love, love, love this! Glitter for everyone!
