Frann Leach has put a lot of time, effort, and I think love into compiling a wealth of tasty options for those wanting or needing to be gluten-free. Aside from being open and personable (I contacted her via email with some specific questions), she has put in hundreds of hours adapting and refining, and sometimes creating, tasty concoctions in all recipe-book categories. Recognizing that those needing to avoid gluten can seem to be staring at a fate of bland food with no room for breakfast or desserts, Frann has dedicated herself to proving that it "just ain't so."

I see this as a reliable "starter" book. You don't have to be health nut; she has plenty of recipes that are yummy and not particularly "health conscious" (deep fried chinese pork, anyone?). So it's great for starting the transition to a gluten-free lifestyle.

Those who need to restrict corn or soy, which is common with gluten reactivity, will find a few recipes they may need to skip. Most however, utilize corn and soy in ways that allow for substitution (arrowroot for corn starch, for example). Frann doesn't pretend that this is the last word in gluten-free cooking. I think it fills a niche as a necessary primer for new-to-gluten-free food preparers. In addition, she has published a companion(?) cookbook that provides recipes for those who must also eliminate dairy from their diets.

Fran Leach's writings suggests to me that she is a well grounded person - an earth person, a nature lover. She is always trying to make things easier for her readers and always giving that earthy touch. This book is a good example of the time she takes to "break things down' for her readers. She lives in Great Britain but takes the time to make it easier for American readers by providing measurements to which they are accustomed. She also makes it easier for readers with children by providing special information for them.

More people are seeking ways to get and remain gluten free. Fran's book is a big step in that direction.

Yes, there are adjustments to make when you need to prepare food with a gluten free twist. I was very impressed with this book by Frann Leach.

What I liked best was the fact that these recipes really are easy to make and a guy who is cooking-challenged, I can actually make some of these work in my kitchen!

Frann supplies more information than just recipes too - such as what gluten free means in different situations and the explanation of directions in the front.

Can't wait to try the pie crust recipes! This book is a go!

This book is a great collection of gluten free recipes - a wonderful variety. It is also helpful that the measurements are all given in equivalents so you don't have to worry about changing from the metric. The recipes that kids love is a great idea too.
This book is well worth getting for anyone wanting or needing to eat gluten free.

Fran Leach has compiled a wealth of information about living gluten-free. The variety of recipes is wonderful. You have to get used to the British phrases- but I find them delightful too. She conveniently includes all measurement equivalents so you don't have to translate from the metric. Thank you Fran for this collection- each one I tried has been very satisfying.
