THE GODFATHER PART II

A 4K You Cannot Refuse!

Growing up me and my dad would watch the godfather religiously starting with his old VHS then making it all the way up to DVD then Blu ray. So with the 4K release I was hesitant that it would not capture the beauty of the film i grew up with but now I can hand on heart admit that this is the best the godfather has ever looked and I cannot wait to sit down next to my dad so we can both relive the good time and watch a timeless masterpiece.

50th year £120 box set 4k godfather, does this deserve to swim with the fishes?

Firstly Not a review of the actual films, been done too many times before.
Now then this is my triple dip as I previously bought on DVD and Blu ray box sets.

Is it worth it? £120 ?

Well answer is mostly yes, reasons being the following.
The picture quality is the best I’ve seen the Godfather, sharper clearer and loses most of that browny tinge.
The Dolby vision was part of the upgrade and Dolby atmos also excellent.
The package is classy to look at, the art prints are good, the coffee table book, is not really a book more a folder, which has 30 pages of photos nice enough, all the discs are in the stiff cardboard pages in little pockets as part of book.

A little disappointing that discs are not in proper boxes ? Best way to compare is the recent 27 disc Star Wars box set, the steelbooks were much better as part of the Zavvi set, you just wonder if this will be the case with Godfather….. almost certainly I’d say…..

Update 13/8, now availble as steelbooks, very nice looking and match the prints in the set.£25 EACH.

Only the x3 4k discs are different from recent blu ray set.
Can’t tell as extras are not listed on packaging.

Overall solid 4 stars for the package in 4K

For 70 pounds this is not great quality. Discs themselves fantastic but for this money I want more than a flimsy digipack. Should be 20 pounds cheaper. Disappointing

After viewing some reviews of the standard box set I noticed that the USA versions have individual slip cases for each film with own art. The UK version just has plastic trays.

This was the version I've been waiting for - beautifully updated in 4K HDR, great box set. I was tempted to take off a star due to bad shipping/packing resulting in damage to the box, but that's not the fault of the manufacturer. Visually the ultimate version of the Trilogy, especially when watched on an OLED set.
