Présentation de l'éditeur

On holiday with new boyfriend Tom, Mark heads off to rural Italy for a spot of camping. When the ruggedly seductive Dante invites them onto his farmland the lovers think they have struck lucky, but there is more to Dante than meets the eye - much more. Thoroughly bewitched, Tom, all innocence, appears blind to Dante's dark side - but Mark is racked with suspicion. As their holiday starts to spin slowly but very surely out of control, it is Mark, alone, who can maybe save the day...

Funny, sexy and clever, this is a story about understanding and forgiveness, and an investigation of the fact that life is rarely quite as bad - or as good - as it seems.

BookMarks - Nov 2006

Spooky and emotionally turbulent yet profoundly comedic third novel in a captivating trilogy - a roller-coaster literary treasure.

Mark, the character whom we met in Mr. Alexander's first two novels, 50 REASONS TO SAY GOODBYE and SOTTOPASSAGGIO, returns in this, the third novel in the series. He and his lover Tom on holiday in Italy find themselves in a maelstrom of violence that they didn't bargain for. Alexander weaves a horrific story worthy of Henry James or Joseph Conrad as Mark and Tom see face to face the heart of darkness. The writer pares down his prose here to dialogue for the most part; the suspense is palpable.

Both characters are completely believable and sympathetic in every way and are universal in the difficulties they face in their relationship. Alexander writes about hard subjects, for example, the difficulty of forgiving a lover who has betrayed you. And if you forgive him, how do you ever trust him again? And finally, how do you step away from the nightly news-- that justs repeats itself-- and find a modicum of meaning in this, the 21st Century?

This latest is far and away Mr. Alexander's best fiction to date. He certainly deserves to be read by serious readers everywhere.

THIS THIRD EPISODE OF MARKS LIFE IS EQUALLY AS GOOD AS THE LAST TWO, THE AUTHOR CATCHES YOUR ATTENTION FROM THE VERY FIRST PAGE. ONCE AGAIN THIS MAN TAKES THE READER AND TOTALLY ENVELOPES YOU INTO HIS WORLD. WE HAVE ALL EXPERIENCED MARKS HIGHS AND LOWS AND CANNOT BUT FEEL RIGHT THERE WITH HIM. A REALLY HOT READ WITH INTIMACY AND ADVENTURE I'VE NEVER REALLY READ BEFORE. THIS BOOK IS VERY ADDICTIVE AS WERE THE OTHER TWO NOVELS, 50 REASONS TO SAY GOOD BYE AND SOTTOPASSAGGIO BE SURE TO READ THESE FIRST TWO IN ORDER TO APPRECIATE HOW MARKS LIFE PROGRESSES. WE'VE ALL BEEN HERE IN SOME WAY OR ANOTHER. I MUST ADMIT I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODE.

This third installment of the Nick Alexander series had a bit of a mystery in the middle and that was great. Mark and Tom's stay at Dante's farm was filled with weirdness and suspense. But Tom was so frustrating to me that I found myself wishing Mark would just dump him. God, he was such a pain. He was a pain the previous book also, but he really grated on my nerves in this book. He just whined and treated Mark so terribly at times that I couldn't see what Mark saw in him. The book fell off after farm adventure came to an end, but it was good while it lasted.
