Présentation de l'éditeur

Private investigator Ellen Brazil is hired to find ex-banker Charles Dugan, who disappeared after his mansion burned to the ground. Ellen quickly discovers that Dugan’s new profession—playing poker full time—has earned him a circle of very dangerous “friends.”
Ellen’s investigation is disrupted when her mother is injured, leaving Ellen to wonder why her mother’s abusive husband has gone missing when he should be at the hospital. Ellen finds herself trying to solve two cases at once while smoothing over her own personal issues.
When she learns Dugan has plans to flee the country, she knows it’s imperative she finds him before the gang he owes money to discover his whereabouts and carry out their grave intentions.

This is the continued story of Ellen and Brian, working as partners in a private Missing Person’s agency—with one other team member added in this story. Brian found them another computer geek by the name of Alistair Stockard. Brian’s plan is to start working out in the field with Ellen and leave Alistair to work in the office.

In this story the team is hired by the sister-in-law of the missing person—a person who supposedly had died in a fire. The problem is that the missing person, Charles Dugan, a former wealthy top banker, does not want to be found. And a lot of people want him—good guys and bad guys both. It’s just a matter of time before someone finally gets him, but who will it be?

I never quit liked Charles even though he was the person that Ellen and Brian were looking for. It was hard for me to understand why he would let everyone believe him dead, especially family. I could not figure out his motive for this at first. Later it made more sense. I also had a hard time with why he gave up his banking job, which was a sure thing, for a life of gambling that was rather iffy. I guess it all comes down to addiction.

The mystery concerning this story has to do with the burning down of the house—you will just have to read to find out.

I felt disgust when reading about Ellen’s mother and Colin the step-father. Abusive men very seldom change & normally sons of abusive mothers are outraged by the step-father’s behavior and want to beat the crap out of the step-father. So it was a little puzzling how Jim, Ellen’s brother, went from being angry toward Colin to being forgiving and understanding. I just was not buying that Colin had changed his abusive ways. Especially since Ellen’s mother wound up in a coma & Colin was no where around when she went to the hospital. I hope in the next book Colin gets his come-uppings—because he is not going to change. One of the big differences between Britain’s laws vs. American laws concerns domestic violence; it is the law now in the US that if a law officer witnesses any domestic abuse or signs of domestic abuse, he has to arrest the perpetrator—no matter what the victim says—and nothing the victim says will allow the charges to be dropped. It use to be that the victim here could refuse to press charges but not any more because the officer can press charges.

I was frustrated when I read how the police just stood by and let Dugan and the bad guys verbally duked it out and not do anything. And why could they not arrest the bad guys for kidnapping?

Other than the couple of negative comments that I made, I enjoyed the story and hope that things will improve in the romance department in the next book—and of course I hope that Colin will get what is coming to him!

I've been a fan of M. A. Comley since reading my first Justice book. I devoured Sole Intention, unable to stop reading until the very end. I love the way she entwines great plots, filled with mystery and suspense with real family issues and characters with depth and soul. Ellen Brazil has quickly become a favorite character for me.

Grave Intention starts with a horrific crime. Charles Dugan is a man that you will quickly feel both dislike and compassion for. A man who finds himself lost in a world of gambling addiction he can't control. He loses everything and has only one avenue left--revenge.

When the Dugan house burns with three bodies inside everyone assumes Charles is dead, but before the autopsies can be performed Ellen is approached by Charles' sister-in-law to find him. Ellen takes the case, juggling her need to locate Charles before the men he owes money find him and her mother's horrific accident which leaves her in a coma with her abusive step-father suspiciously missing.

Lots of twists and turns, with an ending I just didn't see coming. Highly recommended.

This book is way below the Comley's usual quality. The plot is thin, there is no mystery in it. The fantasy of a man running around with a compound fracture of his arm and climbing walls is so far fetched I can't stand it. And law enforcement standing around doing noting watching two kidnappers argue with each, well give me a break. And the idea a guy would burn his wife and daughter to death because he feared they would get a beating from a criminal, I don't know where she came up with this. C'mon M A, you can and have done much better that this piece of baloney.

Good read again from M A Comley. Ellis has so many things happening at once, but she remains focused on her case. I'm glad she has found the beginnings of romance in this book. Will there be more books to this series, I hope so.
