I love this album!!!! It immediatley starts off with this weird and superbly angelic track "white elephant" that makes you feel like your watching an epic cult film about the fallen lucifer and the human obsession with beauty and things of the darkness....ooohh. Yeah, I know, there is no such movie but still....and the whole album kinda has that same weirdness. If ever they should make that movie, they should consider 'Gravity The Seducer' as the soundtrack. Wow! What a great band. This album should appeal to fans of bands like M83, CLAIRE VOYANT, THE NAKED AND THE FAMOUS, CRYSTAL CASTLES, DELERIUM and IAMX.

This is an excellent album. Their best yet as this band continues to bend, anneal and separate themselves from anyone else. Hypnotic, electro pop, I suppose, but with an edge only provided by this band, especially on their last two studio efforts. My favorite tracks are Melting Ice, Ambulances, well all of the ones that have singers.

There lies the only quibble I have is with the instrumentals. They sound a bit like intermissions between the good songs. I just like it when they write complete pieces with the haunting vocals, mesmerizing electronics, and mood evoking beats.

Still, this band keeps getting better and better, to me.

I have been in love with Ladytron ever since I picked up Witching Hour at my local half price books. Witching Hour was brilliant and I could not get enough of it. So then, I went searching for their other stuff at my local record stores and I got a hold of a copy of Velocifero. Velocifero was another brilliantly crafted CD. It was even better than Witching Hour in some aspects. SO then, I got 604 and Light & Magic. Both of those albums were also great. They are clearly less developed than their later albums but they show the potential that Ladytron had from the beginning. Needless to say, when I heard of Gravity the Seducer, I was excited. I pre-ordered it right away and anxiously awaited its arrival. I was not disappointed. It is a great album. It is clearly following the path that Velocifero started. However, there are too many instrumentals on Gravity. I love Helen Marnie's voice, I want to hear it. I do not like the fact that Gravity only has three instrumentals out of a total of only twelve songs. I wish that there were either less instrumentals or more total tracks. The songs that are present are great but they are lacking something that Witching Hour and Velocifero had. I, however, still highly recommend this album for anyone that enjoys Ladytron's music.
I would also like to recommend some bands that Ladytron fans might like:
Apoptygma Berzerk (Ladytron even remixes one of their tracks)
Freezepop
Thermostatic
5.0 étoiles sur 5 Extraordinary songs, ordinary album 30 mars 2012

In fact, this isn't even an ordinary album. It's not an album at all; it's a collection of songs. This difference should be appreciated before purchase.

Taken separately, there isn't a single track that isn't astounding. The songs White Elephant, Mirage, Ambulances, Transparent Days, and 90 Degrees are some of my favorite Ladytron tracks of all time. They are each haunting and mildly whimsical (okay, White Elephant is extremely whimsical), with softer synths and more restrained percussion than Velocifero but with an approach that is more lighthearted and less stark than Witching Hour.

The songs White Gold and Altitude Blues, while fantastic on their own, are discordant with the other songs on the album. They are slow, stark, and sparse--a sort of blend between 80s electronica and late-90s ambient music. Brian Eno's influence is apparent here.

Similarly, Ace of Hz/Aces High, Ritual, Moon Palace, and Melting Ice compose another group that is incongruous to the whole. They are more pop-oriented with straight-forward (some would say uninspired) beats, rich layering, and delicate textures around the edges.

Overall, it seems there are three distinct styles clashing here. The songs are mixed rather than blended. Unlike typical albums, the songs are not cohesive and do not work with each other to form an album-wide arc. It is a mix tape of great but unrelated songs. It is the only Ladytron album that I don't play all the way through. Rather, I put the songs on various playlists--which, really, is a testament to the quality of each song since none were wasted or ignored.

I unreservedly recommend purchasing this album just to get your mitts on ALL the songs here. Whether you leave it intact or divvy it up onto playlists is a matter of taste, but don't let a 3-star album dissuade you from owning twelve 5-star songs.

I really wasn't sure about getting this album. I thought "Witching Hour" was their pinnacle, as "Velocifero" seemed to sink down into the doldrums from an artistic point of view. But as I found some tracks on "Velocifero" good accompaniment for a gym workout session, I thought this might be the same. Whoa - was I wrong this time...!

Same voices, similar instrumentation and... unfortunately lamer instrumental tracks, but everything else turned a corner into a more adventurous musical land. Now they have my full attention again.
Ladytron: Do yourselves a favor and lose the instrument-only stuff. Helen and Mira's voices are the key to making dark music beautiful.

More songs are of a dark nature, but the arrangements, structure and creativity are in another league compared to previous albums. The only real problem is the mixing/production where one battles to make out the lyrics in several tracks.

I'm glad the artist in these musicians has woken afresh.
