Présentation de l'éditeur

A Tom Gray Novel: Book 1

When ex-soldier Tom Gray loses his wife and child to a career criminal, it seems life can’t get much worse. But when the killer is let off with time served on remand, Gray knows there is something fundamentally wrong with the justice system. Engaging the help of his ex-SAS buddies, he kidnaps five repeat offenders and asks the public to vote on their fate: Should they be allowed to continue their criminal ways with inadequate punishment, or has Britain had enough?

His website attracts a worldwide audience and, although the authorities know where he is, they are powerless to stop him.

Can Gray carry out his audacious plan? Will Andrew Harvey and his fellow MI5 operatives find a way to stop him?

Gray Justice, the first book in the Tom Gray series, is more than a simple tale of revenge: it’s a rollercoaster ride with an ending you’ll never forget.

Page turner. Well written and fast reading for this book. The plot seemed well designed and then unexpected people would like to take advantage of the situation. Unexpected end, to be continued....

A very fast read this... it may be a tad far fetched, but the plot is original with a modern feel. Well written and definitely recommended.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Good read 29 mai 2013

The story was a good read. Not outstanding but engaging and easy to read. I'm not much into military stuff, so I skimmed through parts of it. The POV is rather "manly man." Most of the characters are male, and the few female ones are incidental and/or not very likable. Sally is somewhat of an exception, but I think she's portrayed as more of a blithering "wanna be" than a professional like the others. Still, the twists and turns of the plot were well done, and I think the next two books in the series will be worth checking out.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Technothriller with Heart!! 24 septembre 2011
Par R. S. Guthrie - Publié sur

I downloaded this to my Kindle after reading the sample and getting hooked. When a writer puts together a technothriller (i.e. a thriller with a strong technical thread holding much of the storyline together), he or she takes on a certain obligation: whether they know the technical specs or not, they need to deliver on the authenticity. "Gray Justice" delivers. Alan McDermott weaves us an intricate tale of military preparedness with devilish and cunning accuracy. Still, he does not fall into the trap of getting TOO technical--McDermott's prose is easy to understand while still delivering the thriller punch!

The word "heart" applies here as well--the author puts together a current, relevant storyline about a hero who cares; a protagonist who is willing to risk everything he is for the sake of his friends, his family, and his country. Tom Gray is a hero you will believe in!

Bravo, Alan McDermott. You've got me awaiting your next effort with high anticipation! Read this outstanding first novel; you won't be disappointed!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Desperate actions and a heavy dose of violence. 23 mars 2013

Tom Gray, the central character in this book, is seeking personal justice while also aiming for reform of the British judicial system. He takes the law into his own hands, blurring the boundaries between justice and retribution, and his actions lead quickly to a situation from which it is hard to see how he can emerge victorious. Knowing that this was the first book in a series in which Gray would feature as the central character, I found myself repeatedly wondering in the early chapters how Gray could possibly be free to return for future stories. This early suspense continued as the story became more complex and others sought to exploit his situation for their own purposes. Although I enjoyed the first half of this book, it then became more predictable but also less believable, as the story was reliant upon the occurrence of a sequence of problem-free events and the authorities responding as Gray had anticipated - but this is fiction, after all, so we do have to suspend belief.

While the story is about the search for justice, the actions of Tom Gray himself become increasingly questionable. He must be a cold, hard individual to do what he does and I did not find him at all likable. I get a sense that this author's aim is to develop a series of action stories in the style of the Jason Bourne series by Robert Ludlum, very much books for those who like lots of action and a good dose of violence with a ruthless hero pitting his wits - and muscle - against others who are equally ruthless. Personally, this is not my preferred genre and I will not be reading the next book by this author, but if you like books and films such as the Bourne series, or action films starring Bruce Willis, you will probably enjoy this author's work.
4.0 étoiles sur 5 But it sounded good and I'm glad I finally read it 15 avril 2015

I have to admit I put off reading this for the longest time because the reviews are all over the place with ratings from 1 to 5. But it sounded good and I'm glad I finally read it. I was hooked right away and glued to my seat from the get-go. This was a can't-put-down page-turner. Certainly, it's a vigilante anti-hero vengeance story with a highly unlikely scenario and belief has to be suspended to enjoy it. The better title would have been "Gray Vengeance". I won't critique it as I could go on about what was wrong with the logic of the plot, the dialogue, the writing, etc. But in all honesty and reality, I didn't care. I loved it!!! I didn't like Tom Gray, he is morally ambiguous and not even relativistic as he knows he's doing wrong but doesn't care and thinks if he can get through the loopholes then so what. But I will definitely be returning for book 2 (which I have) as the ending was intriguing and I would love to go another round with this testosterone filled action-adventure political thriller series. Sometimes books are just a heck of a lot of fun!

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Disappointing 4 mai 2014

Bought this book for a change of pace. Unfortunately, it started with one campaign for revenge that turns into a world wide act of aggression. I was initially turned off by the British slang, which is probably a personal issue. Not being familiar with some of the British terminology left me a little confused at times. As I said, probably not an issue for those who read stories with this terminology. Story was scattered with a disappointing ending. Was hoping for another series of adventure books. Starting with personal tragedy but jumps into a grand scale act of taking things into your own hands. Disappointing says it all for me.
