As an enthusiastic but not very knowledgeable gardener I was delighted to get a copy of this book. I found it full of useful information, well presented, with plenty of excellent photographs to aid identification. The listing of popular ferns is extremely helpful and the author has not neglected to provide a well researched section covering a variety of resources. I would thoroughly recommend this book.

Since I do not have a very green thumb, I decided that I would learn more about ferns. They seem hardy and would give my living room some color.

In Gloria Daniel’s book, she walked me step-by-step through the process of picking ferns that do well indoors and which ones need a minimum of light. She even writes about how to plant them, the kinds of pots to use, and how to reproduce them later on. I had no idea that I could reproduce a fern just by putting another pot of soil next to it for the leaf to take root in and become another plant! Cool!

After reading her book, I have decided on two different kinds that will work well so I’m off to get my supplies and get started. I’m going to keep my eyes open for a Tiger Fern, too. With the variegated leaves of dark and lime green, this one would be fun to grow, too.

We have many plants in our home, but do not have any ferns. I must admit that I had always thought ferns were way out of my green thumb league, but after reading Gloria's book I feel ready to add ferns to our houseplants. The book covers everything you might need to know from selecting the right variety to proper soil mix to the right way to water and fertilize your ferns. It also covers such things as overwintering Wardian Cases, and propagating by spores.

I'm so glad I found this book, and I highly recommend it.

I loved this simple "Growing Ferns" book! I know a little about gardening and I still learned a few things I didn't know! (Next spring I will have to change a few things in my containers!) The pictures are great and informational and the resources are good also. I especially like the suggestions and pictures of what to do with fern fronds at the end of the book! Crafty!! Recommended!

Just because you don't have a large yard doesn't mean you can't have a garden! While you can certainly transfer your ferns outdoors if you have the space, they're a great indoor plant, and, in fact, they don't do well in too much direct sunlight. Daniels's book offers up a comprehensive guide on cultivating, nurturing, fertilizing, and even watering your ferns. Great read!
