The most important pros include:
They are completely compatible in Windows 7 & 8.
Not only are they compatible, but no configuration is even required. This includes the sleep, volume, web, and special function (Fn) buttons. I especially enjoy the new Windows 8 function button options painted on the Fn keys.
All the keys are properly placed exactly where I expect them to be without having to hunt the keyboard. The keys also have very little travel to depress them. This is very convenient if you are a skilled typist. The keys also have a very nice tactile feedback that really let's you know you've hit the key.
Very long battery life.
While I have had to replace the batteries a few times a year, I change the batteries on these keyboards about once every couple years. There is also a tiny low battery indicator on the keyboard which is helpful.
Even the earliest one of these that I bought hasn't lost any of the paint off any of the keys after three years of use. They have taken a lot of use and abuse and still work like new.
Shallow sealed key design.
These keyboards are very easy to clean. Dirt doesn't really have a place to nest or get under the keys like on many other keyboards I've used.
I can use a single dongle in one USB port and it controls the mouse(mice) and keyboard(s). It controls up to five devices which is great if you have limited USB ports. This is becoming standard, but I'll still give it a spot on the pro list.
Sharp look and slim design.
It just looks good sitting on any desk. It's also very slim so it's easy to manipulate. I have an HP TouchSmart PC, and it easily slides under it if I need extra desk space. I'm not a fan of bulky design, ergonomics, or wrist rests. Just give me a nice keyboard.
The cons include:
F, J, and 5 button indicators.
This is the only real con I can find with this keyboard. The little F, J, and 5 indicator bump on the keys that you need for proper finger placement are there, but they could be a little more pronounced. The last HP keyboard I owned was slightly more pronounced which made the keys easy to find. I'm getting used to it, but I find I have to rub around the keys a little to confirm I have the right keys. If you're a hunt-and-pecker, it won't matter, but if you're a touch typist, it will take some getting used to.
I highly recommend this keyboard to anyone that wants an excellent, comfortable, and durable keyboard. It will last for years and you won't be disappointed. Enjoy!
Though one thing you have to watch out for is when unboxing the wireless receiver is in the opening of the box where the box tab is .in the side of the box. it can easily be overlooked . but so far I love it and its a great keyboard
1. The keyboard is made out of sturdy plastic and has a very slight give in the middle. It is not aluminum.
2. The multimedia keys are pathetically small and round. They are clicky and will probably hold up. but given the space in the upper right corner,
they could have definitely made them larger and improved their quality. The play, forward, and reverse buttons are all integrated with the function keys and require you to press the function combo key to use.
3. I miss the dedicated calculator button that my Logitech had and the HP one does not.
4. As everyone else pointed out no indicators for caps lock or battery life (not sure what the symbol in the upper right is).
5. No On/Off switch
Overall, I am satisfied with it and will keep it, but if HP would address the above, then I would consider it perfect.
Even with fresh batteries and the receiver less than 8 inches away, it misses about 1 in every 25 key strokes!
Dropping review to 2 stars
Looks great, slim profile, good 'laptop style' key feel, decent range, volume buttons
Shortcut 'feature buttons" do not work with windows 7 except volume up/down, the number pad will occasionally stop working until you pull the batteries out- which you have to do to turn it off because there is NO POWER SWITCH, and sometimes it will get stuck as if you have shift held down (which requires the same battery-out solution)
I'm on amazon today looking to replace it with something better.
The batteries are fresh. The computer is a new HP Envy desktop running Windows 10. This keyboard model was recommended by HP for my computer.
I'm getting ready to pack it up and return it, but wanted to share that my experience has been similar to those described by many low star reviews. It obviously works well for a lot of people, but may be based on computer/OS version. So sad, I really wanted it to work.
