We bought it anyway for one reason- our daughter had taken to dragging all sorts of things around the house- laundry baskets, our heavy dining chairs etc. My fear was that she would one day, tip one of the dining chairs onto herself before I could get to her. We purchased this so she would have something baby friendly to drag around, we could distract her by taking her for a ride (she loves this.....our backs don't), and not have to worry about her tipping it over or staining our walls with wagon paint.
We looked at many walkers that cost less and decided on HABA because of their quality and workmanship. When I received the item, I thought it was nice but certainly not an item that should cost over $200. A few details to note: the blue of the little ring on the top handle had stained the yellow portion. The yellow pinwheel had sections missing. The underside of the wagon where the brakes are, had a split in the wood. I don't expect to see any of these things given the price paid.
The little mouse in his hideaway pocket is cute and washable, and my daughter enjoys looking for him every so often. She likes to stand on the walker chariot style. The back of the seat is high enough that she can hold onto the handle but you do have to watch to make sure they don't tip forward/over the back of the seat. It is a sturdy item that can support her weight (10.5kg) and it has never once tipped over.
The wagon does not take corners so it only moves in a straight line. To turn, you have to lift the wagon and place it in the direction you want to go. Would have liked to see it offer a bit more flexibility in the direction you can go in.
It has 4 little shapes on a rod behind the seat. They move left and right but the rod is placed so close to the back of the seat, it's impossible for the shapes to spin on the rod. Only one of them spins (the little blue car) and that is because it is the smallest, not due to any effort on the part of the designers. Strangely, I found this annoying. Repositioning the rod to allow more dynamic interaction with those shapes would have been nice.
The inside of the back seat has a mirror that is of reasonable quality (no fun house mirror) and there are four colored discs around the mirror. They don't do anything. I was hoping they could be pressed in/out within the hole they were inserted in to make them a but more engaging. No such luck.
The are two cut outs in the sides of the wagon and the two toys in there are probably the most interesting part of the wagon. The shapes are bright and colorful and easy to manipulate.
If you don't mind the hefty price tag, this is a cute wagon to own however I am sure a wagon at half the price would do just as well and provide the same level of entertainment to your child.
We have had this for over a month, and my daughter is STILL fascinated by it. The colors are beautiful and bright. All of the pieces move, and my daughter loves to play with each and every part. She turns it on its side. She toddles behind it. She puts her toys on the "seat" and then takes them off again. She cuddles the mouse. It keeps her busy like nothing else.
This wagon is just gorgeous in person. Just gorgeous. And it's so sturdy and well made that I think my daughter will be able to use it with her daughter--unless we've taken to flying instead of walking by then. In that case, I'm not sure what we'll do with it, but I know it will still be around.
