Présentation de l'éditeur

<div>

The Handbook of Bird Photography distills the knowledge, talent, and experience of three well-known professional wildlife photographers into one beautifully illustrated volume. Written in a manner that is easy to understand, this book offers fresh insight and practical tips that will broaden horizons for nature and bird photographers. The authors share their stories showcasing photographs for which they have received awards in major international wildlife photo competitions.

In this book, you'll learn about all of the elements that lead to a great bird photograph, including:

  • The bird photographer's equipment
  • Shooting techniques: exposure, focus, how to show movement and freeze action, etc.
  • In the field: bird behavior, hides, and how to attract birds
  • How to use light and compose and crop images
  • The best sites for finding and photographing birds

You'll also learn how to show, share, promote, and sell your photographs.

Bird photography is a brilliant way to spend your free time, and for some it's a career. This book helps beginners get the hang of things quickly and accurately, and offers field-specific expertise for more experienced photographers.</div>

Biographie de l'auteur

<div>

Markus Varesvuo is a world-renowned bird photographer who has an uncanny knack for capturing action. While working in the business world for over 20 years, Markus ran a parallel life of bird watching and photography that began in his early teens. In 2005 he became a full-time professional bird photographer and has since written several books and received a number of awards for his photographs. His book Birds: Magic Moments was released by New Holland Publishers in late 2011 in six different languages. In 2010, he won the GDT European Wildlife Photographer of the Year award in the Birds category.

Markus is focused on European birds and works as eagerly with everyday species as he does with those that are more rare. He doesn t photograph birds in captivity or use a flash, as he prefers to photograph birds in their natural environment.

Jari Peltomaki is an internationally acclaimed bird photographer and tour operator based in Finland. His thirty-plus years of experience in the field is evident in his books, articles, and talks. Though bird photography is his main interest, his photo library includes other wildlife as well, photographed both in Finland and abroad.

Since 2007, Jari has chaired the Professional Nature Photographers of Finland Association. His photographs regularly receive awards in international competitions and have received several awards in the Veolia Environnement (BBC) Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest. He is the director of Finnature, Finland's leading wildlife tour operator.

Bence Mate is a young and exceptionally talented wildlife photographer. Growing up in a small rural village in the Hungarian plains, a birder's paradise, Bence studied nature, his biggest interest. Most of his spare time was spent fishing, hunting, or bird watching, and he built his first hide at the age of 14.

At a time when Hungary had yet to see its first professional wildlife photographer, Bence decided to become one. He has since won numerous awards for wildlife photography, including the Veolia Environnement (BBC) Wildlife Photographer of the Year award in 2010. In 2006, he started a nature photo tourism business, and his innovations in wildlife photograph-custom-built hides, tripods, and one-way glass-have caught the interest of many photographers. In 2010, Bence published his first book, The Invisible Photographer.

Eagerly tapping into all the possibilities offered by continuous technical evolution, Bence focuses on action photography of wild birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles. He lives in Pusztaszer on his farm, which is also his business headquarters. He has built photography centers in Costa Rica and Brazil.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Both technical advice (settings, gear, etc) and the touchy-feely stuff (style, marketing)... Oh, and some great bird photos. 28 mai 2015
Par Matthew Lala - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle Achat vérifié
This book is wonderful as a piece of instructional material (picking a shutter speed, mode, lens, etc.) and as a primer to the actual practice and business of being a pro bird photographer... birding hotspots, travel tips, concrete ideas for marketing and selling your pics, etc. They aren't afraid to recommend specific gear, specific hotels and tours, and even websites where you can sell your work. And most of the info, though centered around northern europe, is relevant to everyone.

The authors understood that some of the gear they mention will be dated a few years after they wrote this, but you can figure out pretty quickly what you need and who makes it and where to get it. And the locations they recommend will probably still be great places to see birds in a hundred years.

It's fascinating to read about their dedication, which includes making their own blinds, sleeping in a tiny tent outdoors in the winter, and even building their own homemade contraptions... one of the authors has made a remote control box to house his camera so it can rest in a marsh or snowy pine and capture pics of birds from distances that would otherwise be impossible. Imagine filling the frame with a bird using an ultra wide angle lens... how's that possible? This book will tell you.

The photos blew me away and my only regret is I got this book the same way I get all my others these days... electronically, rather than buying a physical copy. But some of the photos really need to be seen in print, filling a big page, not as tiny jpegs on my phone screen. If you're reading this before buying, consider buying the print edition, even if you usually prefer the kindle edition of most books.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Designed too be read by SERIOUS bird photographers 21 janvier 2014

I purchased this book with the intention of getting some hints on exposure and focusing settings to photograph birds in various circumstances. The book provided that information and so much more. The photos are an artistic treat in themselves; they also provide technical data on camera settings, how the photo was taken, and the equipment used. The photos will be useful to study when comparing my own photos to improve them. The book also describes how to get close to birds and best places in the World to photograph birds. The authors are from Finland, so the bird species and many locations will be unfamiliar to the North American reader.
I purchased the kindle version since it was one third the cost. I'm very disappointed with how the photos and their captions are not kept together. I would recommend spending the money for the print edition. Overall a fascinating book, but may contain far more information than the casual bird photographer can use. If you are looking for inspiration and fantastic artistic bird photos, this book will not disappoint.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 LARGE Handbook 18 février 2014

This book is not my idea of a "handbook". It is large and heavy. More like The Text Book of Bird Photography.
That said, it is full of beautiful color pics and usable text describing how the picture was taken and with what equipment.
As a beginner in bird photography (one that would be expected to buy books on the subject) I find the equipment used and described in the book are way out of my price range. Many of the camera bodies used cost more than my Canon DSLR and the three lens I own combined. Many of the prime telephoto lens described also cost more than my entire kit.
So the techniques used with the high grade professional equipment do not exactly fit with the abilities of the equipment that I use.
However, the concepts are clear and even if my EOS rebel T3I does not have the capabilities of a Nikon D4 or Canon EOS-1D, I still have gotten much benefit from this book.

Wow...what a book. I am a photographer but bought this as a gift for a friend who is an avid bird photographer. The photos are fabulous and the background information and how to's are very enlightening. The 3 photographers that created this book are internationally recognized and rightly so. They are extremely talented and their work is incredible. This book is packed with over 300 pages of very beautiful and highly unusual shots of birds from around the world. These guys go the distance when it comes to capturing birds in action, or seeing them from a different and unique perspective. I would highly recommend it to any bird, or nature photography lover. Even though it is a soft cover, it is a high quality book that was more than worth the money that I paid for it. After buying it, I can honestly say that I am now a fan of Varesvuo, Peltomaki, and Mate.

Happy New Year. 2015

First would like to thanks Amazon even we're thousands mile away and received the goods in time and good condition.

The book is fantastic for bird photography. My country have only ones season (Summer) and approx. 80% of the birds shown in the book are more on 4 seasons country. That's not important as long the technique, recommendation, advice, tips and methods are mentioned/stated in the book are good enough for a "Middle class" photographer like me to upgrade to Professional Photographer.

Bird photographing is just one of my hobby and my aim is to shooting and achieved a good quality photos on Swallow birds flying and catching insects. Is not easy because the bird is too small and fly every fast.

This book to me is very useful and given 5 stars for this book.
