Présentation de l'éditeur

Jamie Reidy is the guy who's been there, done that, and walked away with the insider stories. Inside Hard Sell: Now a Major Motion Picture LOVE and OTHER DRUGS, you'll find yourself rooting for Reidy and shocked by the realities of the world that paid his salary.

This comedic expose traces Reidy's experiences from Pfizer training to life as the V-Man, when Reidy became Pfizer's number-one drug rep during the Viagra craze. With equal parts self-confidence and self-mockery, Reidy takes the reader on a hilarious romp through pharma-culture while revealing the controversial side of the drug industry. From viewing a circumcision to gaining a doctor's rapport to providing insight on why doctors choose to prescribe Drug X over Drug Y, and from how to bargain sigs and scripts to why the Viagra pill is shaped as a diamond, Reidy discloses everything.

A witty, behind-the-scenes look at an industry that touches everyone in America with a prescription, Hard Sell uncovers truths about the pharmaceutical industry you'd rather not know and practices you'd like to believe weren't employed.

Hard Sell has been adapted into a major motion picture starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway.

Biographie de l'auteur

Jamie Reidy, a Notre Dame grad and a former U.S. Army officer, "carried the bag" for Pfizer from 1995 to 2000. He then spent five years with Eli Lilly's Oncology Division, where he discovered there are far fewer jokes about chemotherapy than Viagra. Reidy was fired by Eli Lilly soon after publication of Love and Other Drugs. He has since published Bachelor 101: Cooking + Cleaning = Closing, a cookbook and lifestyle guide for idiot single guys just like him. He lives in Manhattan Beach, California, where he has written several screenplays. Now he needs to start selling them.

This book was not what I expected. With the release of the movie, I expected the book to have a love story painted throughout. After getting the to end of the book I was disappointed to have none of that love story in it. Mentions of girl friends, sure, but nothing that hooked me. What I was expecting to get didn't match what the book was actually about.

That being said, this is a good book. I wouldn't rank it in my top 10, but Jamie Reidy is a good story teller and parts of the book did make me laugh out loud. I never thought that I wanted to know that much about Pfizer, but I'm glad I do.

If you're looking for a quirky memoir about a pharmaceutical sales rep, I would read this one. If you're looking for a memoir laced with a love story, I suggest "It's Kind Of A Funny Story" by Ned Vizzini.

A really fun read and wild ride through the life a pharmaceutical salesman. Although the movie does not follow the book exactly, the commonality between Jake Gyllenhaal's role in "Love and Other Drugs" and Jamie Reidy's main character in "Hard Sell" do parallel one another fairly closely. Please read the book then go watch the movie! You won't be disappointed!

I liked this book. It was really interesting to see how these companies work. It will definitely make me ask my doctor exactly WHY is he/she writing script for the particular med at that time. is it because it is what is best or what he is obligated to write........ makes u think......

Jamie Reidy is a funny guy. His tales of (hardly) working for Phizer in the late '90s and being on the crest of the Viagra wave are hilarious. The witty, ribald spirit of this book is the jumping off point for Love and Other Drugs, but you won't find a weepy romance here. Reidy's book alternates between sex jokes and hijinks, and an insider look at how drugs are really prescribed in America. Enjoyable and eye-opening, Hard Sell is a good way to pass the time with a very entertaining storyteller.

Hard Sell is the memoir of Jamie Reidy's time as a sales rep for Pfizer from 1995-2000. It was that period that coincided with the launch of Viagara. During Reidy's 5 years, he details his introduction into the industry, and his stories along the way. The book is the basis of the movie Love and Other Drugs starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

Reidy is a major slacker. He details his day-to-day at Pfizer, which included starting work at 11 (sometimes later), taking naps, and having 3 day weekends. The scams he comes up with are creative. He gets around Pfizers managers who try to keep vigilant track of their employees. He has plenty of funny and amusing stories.

One item missing is Reidy's ascent to the top. Despite a relaxed approach to work, he ends up being the #1 Viagara rep in the country by the time he leaves. It would have been interesting to hear more stories about his ambition and drive. He constantly understates his efforts which can't possibly be true with his track record.

The book is slim and quick to get through. If you're looking for a basic introduction to pharmaceutical sales, you can find information here. It doesn't serve as a great guide to sales or marketing.
