5.0 étoiles sur 5 Stunning EP! 5 août 2012
Par Mike - Publié sur Amazon.com

The Saturdays have done it again! Many of the songs are from their previous album, "Wordshaker", but they are still just as amazing! Some upbeat tracks on the EP lie within singles "Ego", "Higher", and non-single songs "Karma", "Puppet", and the Starsmith Mix of a previous track, "One Shot". A soothing track lies within single "Missing You". More great songs are the Radio Edit of "Forever Is Over" (previously released), "Here Standing", and "Deeper". "Higher" is edited with rapper Flo Rida on the last track. Don't miss out on this fantastic album!
4.0 étoiles sur 5 The Saturdays: Headlines!... And A few New Songs Too 13 mars 2013
Par B. Wade - Publié sur Amazon.com

In August 2010 British-Irish Girl Group The Saturdays surprised fans with an EP titled Headlines!. After the somewhat lukewarm reception to thier second album WordShaker the group were not going to originally come out with anything new until 2011(and they would with On Your Radar but we'll get to that another time)However the group decided to re-release some songs as well as five new ones. The EP was intended not only to hold fans over until the next full album but also to show that the girls had grown and matured as artists. How well does Headlines! hold up? Lets find out!
1.)Missing You: The first single from the EP is IMO not one of it's best. The completly unnecessary auto-tune is the first mistake(though I understand why they did it. This album was made right at the height of the overproduced, auto-tune trend and many very talented artists had used it though they didn't need to to keep up with the times) second the beat is lazy IMO, not to mention the whiny lyrics pleading and begging to get back together sound too juvinile for a group in their 20's. It did grow on me a little bit and IMO isn't unbearable but just not one to listen to too often.5/10
2.)Ego: This song is from the girls's second album WordShaker. It is just as brilliant here as it was there, still one of my and many Sats fan's favorites.10/10
3.)Higher(Solo Version): This version was the first version before the song was re-recorded with US Chart topping Rapper Flo-Rida. It was very well received and for good reason IMO. The songs's modern thumping yet still cool and easy going beat is easy to dance along to and empowering lyrics are even better. Vanessa starts off then Una leads us into the chorus "So when I speak listen this is my decision and you keep on messing up the words, so when I speak listen cause you keep on pushing like I need permission to be heard. I'm gonna lift it lift it Higher!" Then Frankie starts the second verse "... cause I am sick of playing games and I'm not gon' say no names but you I know who to blame" Rochelle finishes it "So you can tell em' yeah you can go ahead and put it straight, cause I am in this s*** myself and I do not need your help I'm gonna do this and do it right." the only complaint is again missplaced auto-tune on Una's middle 8 solo but other than that IMO wonderful song and I love this version as much as the remix. 10/10
4.)Forever Is Over( Radio Edit): Another hit from the girls's second album WordShaker, just as with Ego just as amazing IMO as before.10/10
5.)Died In Your Eyes: This one is actually a cover of Christina Debarge's song from her debut album Exposed. Ah the tried and true Sats breakup ballad however this one despite being a cover isn't bad, it's a bit slow in places but overall Una,Frankie and Rochelle with help from Mollie and Vanessa do a great job as woeful protaginists who are feeling thier relationship fall apart and the feeling thier lover just doesn't really love them anymore.8/10
6.)Karma: Unfortunatly the girls's IMO misstep again with this 'I hate you so much you broke my heart I wish bad karma and revenge on you" song. The girls give thier all getting into thier parts as always and the harmony on the chorus is great but the very busy obviously studio electronic guitar, tinkering toy 2006-2007ish sounding beat scream DISNEY DEMO(again!)There is a difference between a fun, bubbly youthful song and sounding like you should still have a bedtime.6/10
7.)Puppet: This is one of my favorites, the girls have fun and get tongue-in-cheek with this track about having a boy toy at thier beck and call. "Like a p-p-p-pupet on a string, make you dance, make you sing, buy me fancy things. I can make you d-d-do just anything what I want what I dream. I'll just pull a string you'll come back to me". The silly wink and nod track underscored nicely by a great beat is a gem IMO. 10/10
8.)One Shot(Starship Mix):This track is a remix to another album track from Wordshaker. To me the charm from the original is tampered with but not ruined IMO an average so so track that could have easily been swapped for a better album track from WordShaker.7/10
9.)Here Standing: Yet another WordShaker album track however what is so annoying about many of the group's ballads was done correctly here IMO.8/10
10.)Lose Control: What fustrates me so much about this EP is again the IMO poor choice for songs. While this one isn't too bad and The Sats amazing energy makes up for the cheesy lyrics it certainly didn't need to be on this EP. 6/10
11.)Deeper: This album track from WordShaker was IMO a good choice for this EP. It's Una and Mollie's great vocals that shine and it not being a breakup ballad that make it stand out from alot of Sats album tracks and for that it's place here IMO is earned.9/10
12.) Higher Remix ft. Flo-Rida: This was the second and final single from Headlines! It was a fan favorite and I must say IMO Flo-Rida really did his thing. He Intros the Girls to start us off " Hey It's Flo-Rida! Frankie!, Mollie! Una! Vanessa! Rochelle! Whatcha doin' Saturday girl?" Overall the songs keeps the exact same tone as the solo version which I appreciate in fact all that is different if Flo-Rida's rap takes the place on Una's auto-tuned middle 8 solo which I didn't mind. He satyed on topic and flowed well with the song. It's rare that a remix matches up equally with the original. A job very well done by everyone. 10/10
Overall Headlines was IMO a very good album that could have been great if it were not for poor track choices. There were many songs from both Chasing Lights and WordShaker that could have easily taken the place of several songs that made the cut for Headlines! Which is why I took off one star. However I felt confidence of what was to come and that the girls had grown up and grown into thier voices so well. Everyone gave thier all even on songs that were IMO lackluster and the energy and harmonies were on point all the way through. I would recommend to any pop music fan. Overall 8/10.

This is the 3rd release from The Saturdays, as they went down a mini-album route, and definitely went for a brighter and more pop sound. There are 5 (7 including the feature and remix) new tracks on the mini-album, but 12 tracks total. But seeing as the older tracks are on Wordshaker, I'll leave those out.

1. Missing You - The lead single off the album. It's a mid-tempo number that has some sort of hidden dance beat behind it. I didn't like the track that much at first, but it grew on me. It's much stronger than Forever Is Over when it comes to lead singles. There's a bit of auto tune on it, but it makes the track a bit more fun. It'd be very bland without the dance-ish beat it has tucked underneath, but it's still an amazing song with a very well thought concept (you miss missing someone.) For some it may be an acquired taste, but I think it's very summery and fun; all the girls get to sing! 5/5

2. Higher - The second single off of the album. Higher is very up-beat, a bit 'Disney' sounding, but very fun and very easy to dance to. It should have been the lead single, as it's very strong. 5/5

3. Died In Your Eyes - The ballad of the mini-album. It's a cover of a Kristinia DeBarge song. I think both versions are a bit boring, but it does grow on you. It's not as good as their other ballads (Chasing Lights, Fall, Here Standing) but it fills the gap for the "ballad" song. I think the best part is the "oh's" at the end. Besides that, I wouldn't say it's too special, though it is good, and the girls do hit some very nice notes on it. 3/5

4. Karma - If you look at the album cover, I'd say this song is the "poster" track for the image. This song is bright, fun, upbeat, and very "Saturdays" like. All the girls have parts on it, which is nice to hear. Una and Frankie take the lead on the chorus, so it's a breath of fresh air compared to the typical and predictable Vanessa lead song. It's produced by Steve Mac (Ego, Notorious) and I think it's one of the best off the album simply because it shows that they can ditch trying to be "serious" musicians for a second and release a girl power driven song that has the lyrics of a Spice Girl driven song. It has clever lyrics, and a clever concept with an amazing backtrack. Some don't like it, but with how bright and upbeat it sounds, I don't see how you can't! 5/5

5. Puppet - I think this is one of the coolest songs they performed live on the Headlines Tour because of how they worked it in with strings and a curtain. The song is a bit on the more risque side, talking about controlling a guy, but it's very girl power like and a nice comeback to songs that demoralize women, without calling men "bad" names. It's in the same vein with Work for me, and is overall very fun. Mollie gets to sing some very nice parts within the song, which is also a nice switch up. 5/5

6. One Shot (Starsmith Remix) - To me this is definitely just a tacked on track, but it is nice. Not a touch up on the original, but it does offer something a bit more if you get bored of the original. I think this is more for the fans that wanted One Shot as a single. 3/5

7. Higher (Featuring Flo Rida) - This one gets old fast. The intro to the song is nice, but they cut out Una's middle-8 of the song and replace it with a tacky rap. I'd skip this one and just listen to the original, but that's just me. 2/5

Overall: 4/5

I think it's very solid for a mini-album, and they included some of the best Wordshaker tracks, though "Deeper" could have been easily replaced with "Open Up" or "2 A.M." Besides that, I think it's very well worth getting if you're a fan of pop music or girlbands.
