Présentation de l'éditeur

If creativity is so important to the life of a child, why is it often pushed aside or given our leftover energy and time?

Why should you encourage your child to figure out their skill set and find ways for them to use those abilities on a regular basis?

Can your child really make a difference in the world around them?

These questions and more are discussed from the perspective of a mother of six kids (ranging in age from 9-16).

This book is written to encourage & equip parents to help their child discover their unique, creative gifts, and to help them overcome the obstacles that hinder growth in their specific areas.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A fresh perspective for this mama of 5! 5 décembre 2013

I've always struggled with this word...creative. I'm a teacher by trade, and as a teacher, I've stood in awe of what my colleagues would come up with...create...and I would wonder "why don't I have any creativity in me" or "why can't I come up with creative, fun ideas like that". This book has given me a whole new perspective. Not just about me, but my children. I love that the author (Jen) points out that it's never too late...that we...that I need to watch...take notice. As I was sitting here typing, my 15 year old daughter came up to show me some beautiful jewelry charms she has "created" and I feel like I'm seeing with fresh eyes. I know what she loves to do, now how can I help her?! I was encouraged by the reminders and steps to make time! Get rid of the "unnecessaries" in my schedule...our family schedule. Ok...and lastly, I have to mention I love the idea that I can let my kids get bored, turn off or limit the entertainment, so they have to find ways to be creative. This book is a resource that will encourage and remind me that yes, I can be creative and I can help my kids change their world through their own unique creativity! Great book to go back to again and again!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 It feels like a book I could have written, very practical, very insightful. 1 janvier 2014

I flipped through the book for a week, and it really did feel like a book I could have written. Planning creativity, scheduling creativity, making sure the kids have a focus on being creative. We are a very creative household, but I also know that I have a tendency to stress over the academia quite a bit and thus sacrifice the creative spirit for it (which is why I was interested in reading this book).

I was reading through the final chapter of ideas for different subjects, and I got this crazy idea: why not ask the kids what they like? So I took my 10 year old daughter to Starbucks, talked with her for a bit and then went through each section and said to tell me if it is something you'd be interested in.

What surprised me the most was the depth of interest she had in certain subjects, and not as much in others! I was really able to get a clearer picture of what she gravitates towards after that, and better able to shape our days with a different focus. It has been enormously helpful not just for the kids, but I feel like I am in better control of the direction the lessons are going.

I think every homeschool family should read this, honestly.

This book is filled with practical tips for how to use the limited time we have with our kids to help them develop their creativity. Jen refutes all the typical excuses we make for not investing on our children's with common sense solutions. There is no magic formula, just actionable ideas that any parent, regardless of their situation can employ. I highly recommend this read if you value creativity and desire to instill it in your children.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 the suggestions mostly encourage too much adult helicoptering over-involvement in children's open-ended play pursuits 1 janvier 2014

I believe creativity cannot be pushed with adult involvement leading the way because imagination will be stifled and dependencies will result in the child having less confidence or intrinsic motivation.

This book was a fast read and very practical. It supported many of the thoughts that I have had about encouraging creativity in my children, and gave good practical tips about how to make this a priority in your parenting.

Recommended to parents wanting to support creativity in children.
