Revue de presse

'The Hexen 2.0 Tarot deck is one of those decks that dares not only to challenge the paradigms of Tarot, but flips them upside down. This is a quirky cool deck.' --American Tarot Association

'Suzanne Treister's HEXEN2.0 is a marvellously rich, suggestive, erudite and important work....The material outcome is a set of 78 HEXEN2.0 Tarot cards and a book, both of them beautiful and stylish, and both operating at two levels, images and text.' --Mute Magazine

'It's a beautiful, troubling project, and a hugely desirable artefact.' --Icon Magazine

Présentation de l'éditeur

The HEXEN2.0 Tarot features 78 alchemical drawings depicting interconnected histories of the computer and the Internet, cybernetics and the counterculture, science-fiction and scientific projections of the future, government and military research programmes, social engineering and ideas of the control society; alongside diverse philosophical, literary and political responses to the advance of technology including the claims of anarchoprimitivism, technogaianism, and transhumanism. Through representing and re-examining these subjects and histories through the lens of occult belief systems and ideas of the supernatural, the HEXEN2.0 Tarot takes us to a hypnotic, mesmerising space from where one may imagine and construct possible alternative futures. Acknowledging precedents such as the traditional tarot deck, The Rider-Waite Tarot Deck and Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot Deck, Suzanne Treister has here produced a new Tarot, that allows a reader, or a group of readers working collaboratively, to use the cards to reconfigure history and/or map out hypothetical future narratives.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The Counter Culture deck to end all 10 avril 2012

First it should be said that this is NOT a beginners deck. It's barely an intermediate deck. This is a deck with very advanced concepts. Not a deck I'd say to start out your tarot journey, but if you are already on it then take the diversion off the regular path.

Suzanne Treister has created a fascinating deck of themes and concepts that will be debated about in tarot circles for years to come. Landing on the doorstep like a bombshell the deck has no booklet to give you a hint as to how to put the ideas together just 78 cards filled with words, symbols and people that one will need months to look up and study. The deck starts out with Aldous Huxley, the author of Brave New World and one of the first to use LSD as The Fool. Then we have renowned drug aficionado Timothy Leary as The Magician. It's a brilliant concept for the cards but one that will take a lot of research to understand the people and their relationship to the card they are one.

For me this is a deck worth study but not really a reading deck. It would be very hard to lay out a spread for a client with this deck but that should not stop people from getting it. Decks like this are out there to help us better understand the cards and their relations to the greater world around us. If all we got were busty ren-fair maidens with flowing hair and fairy wings all the time then tarot would truly be a dull place. It is deck like this that keep tarot alive and current.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Powerful Tool for Insight and Understanding - Deck is $25 at Hexen Tarot Website 10 septembre 2012

The Hexen 2.0 Tarot card book and deck, in my experience, are the most brilliant expressions of the root archetypal meanings of Tarot symbolism in terms of our current social structure. There are many beautiful Tarot decks, filled with symbolism, humor and references to supernatural entities and occult concepts. These can be useful for divination and especially, if one is familiar with Jungian archetypes, for gaining insight into difficult problems and new areas of research. Susanne Treister's deck and book have masterfully evolved the old symbols into representations of the current, controlled, secular society in which we now live, causing one to stretch the mind in order to encompass this new relevant territory.
If you are already familiar with Tarot and have a good understanding of its roots and intentions, you will be better able to appreciate the wit and wisdom of this deck. Tesla as the King of Wands, Lovecraft as the Five of Chalices and Aldous Huxley as the Fool are wonderful examples of the creator's skill and insight and will perhaps encourage users to study these associations and thus gain a deeper understanding of where we are, how we got here and how we are directly linked to the ancient archetypes illustrated in earlier decks.
If you are going to use the deck to tell fortunes at parties or to enhance your witch or sorcerer personas, this is not the deck to use. But if you want to dive deep and/or find order in our current state of affairs, then this is the deck and book to get.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Tarot for Moderns and Post-Moderns 31 janvier 2013

For those of certain proclivities, and a deep fascination with the evolution of culture through its underground currents- This Tarot can not be beaten! From Aldous Huxley as The Fool to the founders of our cybernetic culture this Tarot has it all. A working familiarity with the kabbalah and the tree of life, as well as a passing familiarity with Cyber and Integral hir-story might be necessary for doing readings- But anyone who appreciates great art and critical and deconstructive theory- will get a kick out of the images, their manipulation and the lexical stories which emerge.

Highly recommended!

I love Suzanne Treister's work. It is excellently portrayed in the "companion" book to this deck. I find the deck of cards unnecessary. I will never use them for reading. I purchased them for collection. Which is good for me, because the deck is unusually thin. I don't have another deck of cards that's this thin. It's kind of like an unbound book. Personally, I like the book a lot more, but you can't shuffle the pages.

As the other reviewer noted, this is not a reading deck. It is a "tarot art installation" on a theme, and well worth having for collectors.

Hermeticism and esotericism flooded back into the West in the late 19th century. (Okay, it never really goes away--but this wave has penetrated further down the social heirarchy than any previous wave, I reckon.) The artist/researcher observes how this current has influenced the elite intelligence/military/social planning tier of society, particularly as it has influenced our technology. And it does feel more like observation than the judgment and fear these topics usually generate when noticed. I've ordered the book, and hope that it brings more depth of understanding to the subjects raised in a fascinating way by the cards.

The cards definitely have the gee quiz factor.

I saw an old black and white demonstration of the arpanet from the fifties or sixties, and the speaker unmistakably drew a pentagram as he traced the info packet from node to node. These cards imply that wasn't a coincidence.
