I must admit, the cover page of the book moved me to buy it, and I'm so glad I did. The story is so wonderful and touching that I had the hardest time to put it down. It's the story of Caithlyn Williams, a homeless widow who gives birth prematurely to a little girl with the help of firefighter Mick O'Callaghan who cannot have children. After giving birth, Caithlyn asks Mick to go with little Beth to the NICU, and while he's gone, knowing that she is dying, she tells everyone that Mick was the baby's father before lapsing into a coma - because she does not want her baby to go into the system that failed her when she was young. While adjusting to his new status of being a dad, Mick falls head over heels in love with little Beth (in critical condition), and discovers things about Caithlyn's past ..

***This adorable story had me hooked from the very beginning. I enjoyed reading Caitlin's growth process -- from someone who was too prideful to ask for help to someone who's heart was softened by God. At times I felt as though Nick was a bit too pushy and treated Caitlin as though he had more of a "right" to be Beth's parent than she did. I was moved by the compassion and love that both had for the preemie and it was hard not to fall in love with little Beth myself. This was one of the better love inspired books that I have read as of lately. Bravo to newly published author Patricia Davids -- I look forward to reading more of her work.

I finished this book off this morning after waking up way too early. Reading sometimes puts me back to sleep...but no so for this book! It was GREAT from page 1 to page 249!

Nick thought he had a nice, comfortable life. He was a fire fighter with nice hours - 24 on, 48 off; and he volunteered at the homeless shelter a couple days a week. Okay, no big deal! Then a woman named Caitlin breezed into his life, and his life turned upside down, inside out and then some!

Love is deeper than blood, as proven in this case. This knight in shining armor was there for the premie baby when her mother couldn't be. I'm still wondering how he got away with fathering this baby! An almost-complete stranger, he is mistaken as the baby's father when Caitlin, who thought she was dying, named him as such before she slipped into a coma. Then when she wakes up, she finds that her daughter has a new name, a father who knows her better than her own flesh and blood, and a will-power to live.

Except Caitlin has a secret - she can't read and she's way too ashamed to tell anybody this secret, especially Mick...

And that's really the only problem I have with this book - that she was so prideful she couldn't tell anybody she couldn't read...the thought that a loving mother would put her child's life in jeopardy by some stupid ploy with the cab driver was beyond my comprehension...For the child's sake, she WOULD have asked the pharmacy or someone to make SURE she could tell the difference...But then not being in that situation, maybe I'm just seemed she was way too hazardous with her child...too hazardous for my comfort!

This was a sweet story and a great read. The three of them made a great family. And I absolutely LOVED Mick's mother! She was precious and made a great grandma and mother-in-law I"m sure! That baby was never wanting in anything with her and her daddy around!!!

A wonderful story!!!This inspirational story illustrates very clearly that adopted children are loved as strongly and deeply as biological ones. I had problems warming to Caitlin and grew impatient with her at times. And Mick sometimes seemed too good to be true. Mick's mother was an awesome secondary character, and all-in-all, I enjoyed this story very much.

Patricia Davids brings two seemingly disparate worlds together when off-duty fireman Mick O'Callaghan rescues homeless mother-to-be Caithlin Williams--while she's giving birth. Davids' experience as a neonatal nurse shows in her description of the baby's transition from barely-alive premie who is almost orphaned to healthy daughter of a happy couple. Hardly matters that Mick is a bit too good to be true, and Caitlin's dire predicaments are incredibly numerous.
