Honeybee: a story of letting go, by LGBT poet Trista Mateer Broché – 31 mai 2020
Améliorez vos achats
You will meet people in your lifetime who demand to have poems written about them. It's not something they say. It's something about their hands, the shape of their mouths, the way they look walking away from you.
Honeybee is an honest take on walking away and still feeling like you were walked away from. It's about cutting love loose like a kite string and praying the wind has the decency to carry it away from you. It's an ode to the back and forth, the process of letting something go but not knowing where to put it down. Honeybee is putting it down. It's small town girls and plane tickets, a taste of tenderness and honey, the bandage on the bee sting. It's a reminder that you are not defined by the people you walk away from or the people who walk away from you.
Consider Honeybee a memoir in verse, or at the very least, a story written by one of today's most confessional poets.
Perfect for fans of Caroline Kaufman, Atticus, Clementine von Radics, Nina LaCour, Adam Silvera, and Becky Albertalli; or anyone interested in bisexuality, heartbreak, running away from your problems, and coming out.

Honeybee is about letting go. It's about admitting that you haven't actually let go. It's about trying over and over again to pry your fingernails loose from this thing that is only going to keep causing you pain but for some reason you can't help holding on. It hit me like a freight train.
Mateer's writing is super powerful. It's often simple but that doesn't stop it from having one hell of an impact. The truth in these words is so raw and brutal. That's probably my favourite thing about Trista Mateer - she sugar-coats without actually sugar coating. She puts across these huge, painful concepts through a poetic lens without distorting them so much that they lose meaning. This book also incorporates some handwritten poems and pictures of pressed flowers which is consistent with the kind of scrapbook, DIY kind of feeling I enjoyed so much in her other collections.
If you like sapphic poetry about heartbreak, bisexuality, moving on, mental health and many other wonderful things I cannot recommend this enough.
I’ve read this book a few times.
