Not the best novel I've ever read, but I enjoyed reading it however.
If you love romantic stories, you should read it.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 I do NOT recommend this book-- especially if you're looking for a Christian book. 24 septembre 2015

Okay, my computer decided to restart right in the middle of me typing a review for this book. So let's give this another go, shall we?

After reading the previous book in this series, A Bride for Tom (I would apply that review to this book as well), I realized that I also had this book on my kindle. The storyline sounded fun so, even though I did not like the previous book, I figured I'd give this one a shot. After all, I already had it and it's only 124 pages, right?

I didn't make it through those 124 pages. I started speed-reading around 1/4 of the way through and stopped reading entirely when I hit the wedding night scene, about half-way through. Isn't this book supposed to be Christian fiction?? That's how it was listed on Amazon. I expected a Christian -- or at least "clean" -- read, but that certainly isn't what I got. Yes, God is mentioned. No, there is no cursing-- that I saw. But that wedding night scene is definitely explicit.

I do not recommend this book. Especially to anyone looking for a good, clean, and/or Christian book.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Enjoyable Historical Romance From Ruth Ann Nordin 30 septembre 2011

"A Bride For Tom" is another one of Ruth Ann Nordin's excellent books. The heroine is already engaged to someone else, and the hero who loves her from afar does not have the same wealth and social status as the fiancé. The hero becomes a bumbling idiot whenever he is in the heroine's presence, and since she is unaware that he loves her and thinks he is nervous around all women, takes pity on him and decides to try to help him develop courting skills, with often hilarious results. I've enjoyed everything I've read by Ruth Ann Nordin and this book is no exception. She brings the characters and setting to life and the book is well written. It is a sweet and funny pg rated historical romance that I would recommend to anyone who likes this type of story.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Charming Novella 9 avril 2012

This follow-up to A BRIDE FOR TOM was not as good, but I still gave it a 3.5 and rounded it up to a four. Like in the first novella, the historical research was lacking. The book was set in 1869, and several terms were used that had not come into usage yet. "Pep talk" was not used until 1930, "soccer" not until 1900, and bassinet not until 1875. In addition, their sugar wouldn't have been granulated. It would have been in loaf form and would not have poured out. High chairs did not have removable trays until much, much later. Even in the 1940's the wooden high chairs had attached trays that would swing up and down. It is doubtful Margaret would have been allowed to be with Joseph alone before marriage without a chaperone, and "Debra" would have likely been spelled "Deborah." Margaret would more than likely have worn a pretty nightdress on her wedding night and not have gone to bed naked. It is also unlikely a six-year-old boy would have used the word "obnoxious."

Unlike the first novella, this one had a very graphic sex scene, although it was Joseph and Margaret's wedding night. It didn't need to be that explicit, however.

All in all, I still enjoyed the book. It was a quick read with an interesting plot.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Cute Pioneer Type Story 1 octobre 2011

This was a cute and heart-warming story of a woman, Margaret, who advertises for a husband and ends up with a ready-made family.

The characters were interesting but one dimensional. The book had an old fashioned feel to it and I would probably rate it a 3.5 if I could. It has promise.

There was conflict in the book but at times it seemed contrived and there sometimes was not enough detail about the struggle to become a family unit but others may feel diffently. Although I chuckled at the unique way Margaret got rid of her competition. She's a smart cookie. Kudos to the author for creating such a character.

My big gripe is how new characters were introduced, out of thin air without any supporting context. For example, in the beginning of the book Pete and Debra were mentioned by name but not explained. I was like, who? It was a cold splash of water and interrupted the flow of the book. I kept wondering if I missed an introduction or conversation somewhere. But, we find out who Pete and Debra are much later in the book(and not a minute before). Additionally, there was interaction with a farmhand that seemed to come out of nowhere and had me scratching my head for context -I didn't understand why Margaret and Jessica made the comments they did. If the author re-edits the book, they may want to consider putting in qualifiers when they first mention these characters, to lessen confusion.

Since this book used to be combined with another story, I can only assume the other story - A Bride for Tom - should be read before this book. It may explain some of the confusion I had.
4.0 étoiles sur 5 Great read about mail order husband! 18 mai 2016

It a pretty good book but best part is I got it for free! Heroine request a mail order husband and gets more than she bargained for with an instant family of 4! Worst, hero has a stalker that made his deceased wife's life difficult. Well this heroine us not someone to sit back and ignore anything! I enjoyed this read and would recommend it. It is a safe read. It had some funny moments. The chemistry is good btwn hero and heroine. I would say sensuality is well written and probably pg 13 rating. I also appreciate the author making this good read free! I highly recommend this read.

****FOR WHATEVER REASON MY REVIEW IS POSTED FOR BOTH "A Husband for Margaret" and "A Bride for Tom". However, this review is only for "A Husband for Margaret". Thanks.
