L' album le plus abouti des Pogues . Ils sont à leur sommet. Jamais plus leur leader Shane mcgowan ne sera suffisamment en forme pour chanter et ecrire de pareilles chansons . C est un album intergénérationnel qui reconcilie les fans de punk et les fans hardcore de musique traditionnelle celto irlandaise , tout en offrant des tubes qui sauront toucher le grand public ...
Assurement l' un des tous meilleurs disques des annees 80 .
Et pour ceux qui, comme moi , ont eu la chance de voir le groupe sur scene savent que les Pogues et leurs chansons sont un groupe fantastique comme on en verra probablement plus

L'album phare des POGUES

Chaque grand groupe a son album de référence (U2 "ratlle and hum", Dire Straits "Brothers in arms" etc..), les POGUES ont "if I should fall from Grace with God". Pas moins de 6 tubes de cet album font aujourd'hui référence dans la carrière du groupe : If I Should Fall from Grace with God - Turkish Song of the Damned - Bottle of Smoke - Thousands Are Sailing - Fiesta et le cultissime : Fairytale of New York. Cette dernière a d'ailleurs été citée comme la meilleure chanson de Noël de tous les temps dans divers sondages de télévision, radio et magazines du Royaume-Uni et d'Irlande. Shane Mac Gowan est au summum de son art, aidé de son compère Jem Finer. Un indispensable à avoir dans sa cdthèque. En plus, y'a des titres bonus non inclus dans l'album vinyl d'origine !

Classique du genre, très porté sur la cornemuse, version punky, on a l'impression
d'être dans un bar, avec une pinte.

j'ai reçus le cd sans soucis , bien emballer , l'objet correspond à mes attentes , la protection plastique n'était pas présente sur le cd , mais le produit était parfais !

Mit Erwerb der Box via Amazon/Amazon, also sowohl Verkäufer als auch Versand gibt es sage und schreibe ALLE 5 Alben im Autorip gratis dazu. Da man wie ich finde die ersten 3 Alben, wenn man die Band mag, unbedingt haben muss, ein wahres Schnäppchen.
Die Musik läuft bei mir, wenn mein Irland Fernweh wieder ruft, den ganzen Tag, durch. Sláinte mhaith, Shane MacGowan !

The pinnacle of The Pogues

I've been a Pogues fan for 20 years now, listen to them pretty much every day and have lost count of the number of times I've seen them live. The Pogues do not conform and have a fierce rebellious streak that is tinged with cheeky mischief and outright drunken beligerance. What a refreshing change from the mechanical music product culture of today. This album became an instant classic when it was released in early 1988 and for good reason: the songs are crackers and are the usual blend of traditional songs revived and reinvigorated by thr Booze Brothers, original songs by the one and only Shane MacGowan and a few pearls from the other boys. The poetic lyrics coupled with the magnificent musicianship make it an experience to savour and each listen reveals the subtlety and delicacy of the arrangement. The only donkey on the whole album is Sit Down By The Fire as it seems rushed and Shane can't be bothered to sing it properly but even that has a certain charm. The stand-out songs for me are the joyful Broad Majestic Shannon, the embittered Thousands Are Sailing, the riotously sinister Turkish Song Of The Damned and the immortal Fairytale Of New York.

The remastered version (which I bought to replace the original CD, which I bought to replace the original LP!) featuring a few classic extras, including the magnificent collaborations with the Dubliners for The Irish Rover and Mountain Dew, just make it all the better and confirm this album as the key Pogues album to own. It catches the boys at their productive zenith where they are still creating great music and they haven't begun the decline that clearly showed on Peace & Love. More than anything, it sounds like they are having a ball.

Some sensitive listeners might not like a couple of the songs, especially Bottle Of Smoke, for the high expletive count, but that would be like criticising a great painting because a few of the brush strokes are a bit too heavy. Give yourself a treat and order a copy now.

Hülle war bei der Lieferung gebrochen, obwohl die Cd noch original verschweisst war. Für eine CD-Sammler wie mich ist das eine Enttäuschung. Die Musik der Pogues ist selbstverständlich einzigartig.
