Présentation de l'éditeur

"Nancy Bush always delivers edge-of-your seat suspense!" --Lisa Jackson, New York Times bestselling author

Only Killing Stops The Pain. . .

Callie Cantrell has only fragmented memories of the car accident that killed her husband and son. One year later, she's still trying to start over, yet she can't shake her unease. Especially when former LA cop West Laughlin barges into her life, searching for his young nephew. At first he thinks Callie's lying about who she is and what she knows. But soon it's clear that Callie and West are linked by a killer who has bent others to his twisted will. The worst night of Callie's life was just the beginning of his vengeance. And when her turn comes again there will be no escape. . .

An interesting suspense story. I didn't give it five stars because there was some confusion on the timeline in a number of places, and different, conflicting back stories for the same character. For instance, in one spot she has the character killing his abusive alcoholic father at age nine, and in another spot she has the father dying from cancer when the character is sixteen. These type of things abounded in the story, but I still gave it a four because it's a decent read.

Whew. This novel has a larger population than my hometown. I really like Nancy Bush's books but it seems there are two problems with her books lately: 1-Waaay too many characters and 2-it's beginning to seem as if the stories are all the same, only the location and character names change from novel to novel. And what is it with the characters that feel lust upon first site, even when something bad/scary/monumental is happening. I guess because the LAST thing I'd be thinking about is getting naked if I were being threatened I don't understand characters that are being pushed/bruised/terrified yet look at the person hurting them and think, "Gee, I'd sure like to have sex with him. I don't understand feeling this way NOW, when I should be afraid." Know what? I don't understand it, either. I'm starting to fall our of love with this author's books and I'm sorry about that because I used to enjoy her work so much.

This has to be the worst book I ever purchased. I read all the 5 star reviews and tried to see where I was missing the boat---but to no avail. I felt the plot was so twisted, convoluted and impossible that I just couldn't relate. After the "hero" used force and assaulted the heroine at the onset of the book, I just couldn't relate to him. How do you redeem yourself from that behavior? The handmaidens were a really sick group and presented a situation that reminded me of the Manson cult. Anyway, I finished it but I also have finished any notion of purchasing another Nancy Bush novel.

This was a very slow starting book for me, but once I got into it, it was really hard to put down.
Callie is on vacation when she is accused of being someone else. She finally convinces the detective that she is who she says she is and they begin working together to find the right woman. There are so many twists and turns in this book that it is hard to explain things. There are a lot of characters in this book, and they each have their own part to play. If I write very much about them, I will be giving parts of the book away. I am just going to say, that this was an excellent book. I can't begin to tell you how many surprises are in this book and how they all seem to come together at the end. The ending was such a surprise, as to who was who and why they they did what they did.

Ludicrous plot, not skillfully written nor developed. Not suspenseful. Too many mini- plots that did weave together at the end but without adequate character development. I will not find another Nancy Bush novel if this one is typical of her work.
